Boooo. But just found out in time as we were about to set off.

Ref being a jobsworth. I expect it'll be on.

The only problem will be if it is a waterlogged pitch. The temperature hasn't dropped below -1 last night and if the covers were on then it shouldn't have frozen over. The temperature has been 3-4 degrees this morning which would melt the ice with no problem. When was the last time we had a game off due to a waterlogged pitch?

I'll have to give it a miss now as got 100 miles each way drive and not risking it. Might not make it in time if setting off after 12.30.  :(

You can't do 100 miles in 2.5 hours? What are you doing? Cycling? ;D
Christ 30 miles of the m180 only takes 20 mins ;)

Just got my ticket over the phone. Was told about the pitch inspection but risking coming over for it. Worst case for me would be if they do start and then it's abandoned

Same as Chaos, I decided to cancel our trip from Northampton, gutted.
Too many issues to factor in including return journey.

UTM!

Pitch is very wet in the middle and unlikely to go ahead according to telegraph.

Best natural draining pitch in the country
Should not be an issue, where's the ref from today?
Posted by: LH, January 31, 2015, 12:01pm; Reply: 14
We've seen us play after more precipitation than the last few days before but Matt Dannatt says he'd be suprised if it is on on twitter. Might have to take my jobsworth comment back as I imagine it'll be a second inspection at the very least.

Don't they have covers for the pitch?  It must be bad if BP is getting waterlogged as it's usually pretty good in the rain.

Not looking good. Pitch very very wet. Morning snow melted ,could be off.

Town should do everything to persuade the ref should go ahead, 2 and half hours before kick-off.
Weather forecast not to bad, wind getting up and good drainage.

Luton played a game last season, when the pitch was completely unplayable (surface water all over the pitch).

Disappointing but we've had a lot of games on heavy pitches in the past fortnight and being out of the trophy means we look a lot less congested fixture-wise than in the past couple of seasons. Little rest before Dover might not be the worst thing as that's going to be tough. Certainly didn't want to play Telford on a pitch that might've been a leveller.

It could completely destroy the pitch though. As frustrating as it is, I'd rather play it when the pitch isn't drenched, you can generally play much better footy (which is to our strengths).

Just spoke to a couple of Telford fans in Freshney place, they wasn't aware of the game being off, they are very disappointed too.

Yes, or swap it for the re-arranged fixture. I'm sure the club will accommodate whatever option you prefer.

Whats the point of having such an early inspection ?

The Telford team will be close by,

Their 2 fans are already here according to Chris, ;D

With the wind increasing and our good drainage,

The pitch will be playable at 3, 00pm.

Gutted we should have been 2nd tonight.

Looking at my back lawn, its very wet with melting snow/slush, and its peeing it down here at Bradley x roads atm, and weather forecasts I've seen are for rain/snow for most of the afternoon so disappointing but understandable in my view.

My lawn is suddenly ankle deep in water. It wasn't 3 hours ago. Must be the rain on top of melting snow, so it's understandable.

Non league so no great surprise is it just me or does our pitch seem worse than it once was. :( The club losses out financially would have been a decent gate today no chance of getting that with a mid week tie/ My two lads have traveled from bath and chester albeit for a long week end but there's two tickets which will be refunded.
Posted by: cleethorpes_mariner, January 31, 2015, 1:05pm; Reply: 50
To cover the entire pitch would take over 7000 Sq meters  of covers which would take some storing during a game, putting out and taking up, not to mention the cost in the first place.
Posted by: HackneyHaddock, January 31, 2015, 1:07pm; Reply: 51
If the pitch is covered up and the snow shovelled off, then the game goes ahead, simple.  A tarp in each goal mouth is not good enough.

I thought the pitch looked a bit ropier than normal last couple of games.

I don't understand why the goalmouths/penalty area was covered when there's a slope/camber on the pitch anyway...
Posted by: grimsby pete, January 31, 2015, 1:52pm; Reply: 54
I think its all down to cost,

The poor groundsman's  budget has been cut,

So the pitch is not as good as it used to be,

Good News , when we are back in the league he will be able to do his job with a little more resources.

The cost of covering the whole pitch is not feasible,

When would we need it ?

This is the first time in years that we would have needed it.

I am still gutted it is off though.

Might do us a massive favour this !
It'll give the lads a rest for the Dover game plus we dont really want a lowly team having the odds evened up a bit by a poor pitch

Assuming that as it hasn't snowed for several hours but has rained and has warmed up how do you get several thousand gallons of water off tarpaulin without it affecting the pitch?  :-/ sometimes you just have to accept that nature won...

I see Woking vs Alfreton and Lincoln v Dover are still on.  If Dover win and Woking lose or draw Dover leapfrog several teams and jump into the last play off spot and the same goes for Woking. Both teams have the same GD.

C'mon Dover lol
Posted by: immariner, January 31, 2015, 3:25pm; Reply: 61
I'd prefer a Lincoln win in that one, Dover are already the form team in the division and we don't want them full of confidence for Tuesday. An Alfreton win wouldn't be unwelcome either.
