Yeah, my thoughts too.

A lot of faith shown in Jolley. Very tough looking game this so to throw him straight in means he must really rate him.

Is it 4-4-2 and if so, will Jolley and Arnold track back as Hurst likes his wingers to do?

I doubt if he lasts the full game, he has not played much this season,

Hannah to come on after 60 mins and score again maybe. 8)

Neilson not involved and cryptic tweets, I wish the club would come out and be honest about these situations as opposed to treating us all like bloody idiots with this 'illness' balderdash.

Mackreth's definitely been in better form than Arnold in recent matches. Not sure why Hurst has kept Arnold in the team - he could do with a kick up the bottom.

If that were the case why would he have signed him on 3 separate occasions?

Maybe he's come back a stone overweight after Christmas? Maybe he's said he won't play unless he can go in net? Maybe he bought Hurst a excrement Christmas present? Maybe we should wait and see rather than making things up.

Oh and maybe the club can't tell the full truth at this time.

Hurst is very happy to publically question him, yet will tear his hair out when fans dare to moan about others. The whole management of one of our best players absolutely stinks to me, when he tore sides apart like he did at the start of the season, I quite frankly am bewildered why you'd change anything from that. Since then, both he and us have very rarely looked the same.

I notice how many 'negatives' I seem to be getting after the more positive mood has shifted after a couple of wins and a couple of new signings. Fact is it'll take a lot more than that for me not to trust this bloke as far as I could throw him.

Really pleasing result - sounds like if Town can just 'up' the efficiency in finishing off chances - things will be much less stressful.

Keep this level of performance up and Town can beat anyone in this division - home or away.

Win against Barnet again then need to get 7 more points than them out of a possible 42 for them 45 for us, they've dropped 7 points in their last 5 games, it's possible, but it's also very possible for Bristol rovers or Macclesfield

Just noticed Halifax are scheduled to play their FA trophy replay on Feb 3rd thought replays had to be played within 7 days of the original date.  So should have played  tonight (would have had to cancel tonight's game) or Saturday (meaning cancelling the Barnet game).
Had we not played Gateshead on the Wednesday we would have had to cancel the Nuneaton game, lucky we lost.

We need to convert all those clear chances into goals.  Preferably in the first 30 mins to sooth our collective nerves.  Playing the ref was worth starting a goal down as well.

Didn't listen to the commentary (I seem to jinx the team when I do!), but it's encouraging to see that the comments on here indicate we actually played well on the night. Despite the fact we're doing OK so far this season, we've not played particularly well too often that I've seen. Hopefully the new signings will spur us on into playing like a team who look capable of finishing as champions!

After an indifferent debut against Gateshead in the first Trophy game, it seems that Palmer is doing well, so let's hope Hurst can get Mansfield to agree to let him stay for the rest of the season. Hopefully, Jolley and Robertson will settle in as quickly too.

Thought Grimsby looked a class above us tonight. The first time I've thought that all season in watching the home games. We huffed and puffed but really never imposed ourselves on them. It could have been that we were rusty from not having played for so long, but they looked well drilled, strong, quick and incisive and I thought deserved their victory. Especially given it was their third game in a week. However, 5th still looks possible for us, especially if we can get something on Saturday

No complaints about the result tonight, Grimsby probably the best team we have seen at the Silverlake this season. They were strong but not dirty, quick, played good football & their defence was marginally just too good for us. We played well, & with a bit of fortune could have scraped a draw, but no shame in losing tonight. Good crowd & actually perfect weather for watching football at this time of year.

Play like we did tonight at Kiddy on Saturday & it could be another 3 pts.
Quoted from blackie
Fair result tonight, Grimsby used the ball better, created more chances and maybe should have sealed the game earlier.
We never had the chance to impose ourselves on them and their No.5 gave a commanding defensive display.
We only really looked like scoring when the substitutions were made and Macca made some headway.
Definitely the best team we have played at The Lake so far this season.
I would be amazed if Grimsby do not make a PO spot.
Quoted from tenacres
Agree with that- decent side Grimsby. Looked like we could nick a draw late on but the better team won.

Might just have seen the difference between a playoff team and a not quite playoff team tonight IMO.

A few other observations. Disley was good in central midfield for Grimsby, very solid. Nathan Arnold very lively on the right wing. Palmer was the star man, and went close with two other chances in the second half, one just a whisker wide with the keeper beaten causing problems all night. Before his goal, he had a 1-on-1 but overran the ball through to the keeper, and soon afterwards had a shot into the side-netting following a corner.

Christian Jolley made his Grimsby debut and was diabolical. He was taken off in the second half.

Dan Spence played at full back for Eastleigh. He did ok but nothing more. Midson and Constable got no change from the Grimsby defence all night. Yemi Odubade came on with half an hour to go and livened Eastleigh up, as did former Woking striker Craig McAllister, but they rarely looked like equalising.
