Ex notts forest and rotherham defender could be joining very soon.

left back who can play in cente of defence plus midfield if needed so ticks all of pauls boxes.

Him and jolley signing would be 2 quality signings imo.

Would be an excellent signing, over 250 games in the league, versatile enough to play in other positions, if Aswad is going to go then I think he's an ideal replacement.

Today really could be a Jolley good day

Very experienced league player and versatile evidently, but suffered the damage you might expect for his age (31) - a double leg break and ruptured Achilles tendon. Seems to have recovered well from those.

Played 20 games in the league above so far this season.

Hurst is obviously short in stature but he does seem to like a taller full back (Parslow, Magnay etc)

Clearly the result of years of being out jumped at the far post! ;)

Good consistent player, quite versatile but very unlucky with injuries. If you can keep him fit you've got a good un. Played left back, left mid and centre back for us but looked best in central defence. Calm and assured.

Sounds like an ideal signing. Would mean we can get Magnay back over on the right and not have to rely on Parslow at CB if one of the two regulars gets injured or suspended.

Height a pre-requisite in this league.

Must have been at the club when Hurst was there

Substitution for Paul Hurst / Gregor Robertson in that game.  :P

Very much a trademark PH signing, spent times during his career with both Hursty and Doig - so it certainly all adds up. Also recently got his UFEA B coaching badges so could offer another 'head' in the dressing room, which isn't a bad thing by an stretch of the imagination. With PH, CD and potentially this Robertson I expect clean sheets until the end of the season!

Noticed on a few old games on BBC Sport where Gregors got assists from his corners, guess he likes taking them.

We'll soon take that attribute away from him!

No problem, he can score direct from the corner itself lol >> http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/eng_div_3/6994478.stm

Yeah, see he has just completed a EUFA B coaching course. Should be a good addition to the all round set up at the club.

Good signing and good cover its a shame to loose Aswad driving force from LB but this signing will keep us solid at the back. PH loves his versatile defenders i don't blame him small budget you need players who can cover positions. A good move for Gregor spent a lot of his playing career not to far away in Nottingham and Yorkshire probably been hoping for a move back up to this region.

Looks to be a very capable, versatile and consistent experienced player for us.  Just what we need at the back for the run-in.  And he take a good corner.

Well done Hurst for showing good judgement in scouting the right player - and then getting him to come here.  The timing is excellent.

Sounds good to me... Aswad had many qualities but never seemed calm and assured!

Hope he's been practicing corners with Shaun today !!

Don't you just love to see a pounding header from a centre half from a good corner - sadly missing for Grimsby this year !

Bit of a shame he takes a corner in a way as his height would be useful in the mix.

Northampton Town supporter opinion >> http://www.smfserver.com/forums/thehotelend/index.php/topic,12383.0.html

The overall opinion is they're surprised he went, quite a few disappointed because of his versatility at playing in numerous positions across the back four, it was a mutual agreement that he went looking for another club, where he would have a good chance of regular first team football.

He came to Northampton Town at a time they could of dropped out the league, and did his job at keeping them in league 2. Nothing negative about him whatsoever.

Just gone down in my estimation.

Northampton are replacing him with Tom Newey!!! ;D
