Are RH just seeing that he has left Newport and are putting 2+2 together, or is their info solid?

If it is him, then let's hope he can get back to the level he showed in the Conference before.

Well if he's half as good as 2 years ago - he will be a great signing, but if we can get him back to his old form,  it will be a fantastic one.  If it is him,  hats off to the board and Manager.

Cracking Signing absolutely pleased with this.

So does this mean Hannah going out on loan for the reminder of the Season or leaving perm?

'WEMBLEY hero Christian Jolley is set to leave Newport County AFC in the next 24 hours as he follows fellow striker Danny Crow out of the door at Rodney Parade'

Hurst doesn't usually hint at potential signings unless they are very close to signing.

Some people are massively jumping the gun. Let's face it - we have a poor record when it comes to making key signings of forwards, and I think we should prepare ourselves for the fact that he may well not sign for us. The way some are going on you'd think he was set for his debut tomorrow (or not!).

All in good time.....

Neilson looks likely, or Arnold not beyond the realms of possibility either (not sure of the terms of his loan agreement).
Both have qualities but negatives too. You're right, we can't carry three left wingers.

Despite all the media surrounding Jolley im still noy convinced as PH stated this player was surprised to be made available and Jolley was transfer listed on 2nd Jan.  And James Marwood could be a possibility but didn't he go to Hibs at the end of last season.

I only know what I've seen. He is much quicker than Neilson, probably quicker than Arnold. Defensively, he gives the same as the current lads (i.e. very little) and seemed at home playing wide of a front three. I wouldn't think he'd be ideal in 4-4-2 especially with Azza behind him (or probably in front of him!).

He seemed composed, tricky and direct, for me he was the main difference over the two legs in the play off semi.

I would be sorry to see Scott Neilson leave, he has so much quality but isn't blessed with pace. He bulked up about 18 months ago, not sure if it's just added muscle and although it's helped his strength on the ball I'm not sure if it's cost him another yard he couldn't afford to lose. Am I being ultra critical with Scott? Maybe but I do sometimes think he could be fitter, he rarely gets through 90 mins.

Arnold, main problem with him is which Nathan Arnold turns up and he's struggled with injury here. He can be a match winner, is quick but sometimes his decision making is poor. That said, reading the Newport forum, they seem to think Jolley isn't so consistent but they seem to love him there.

Agree with this.

Currently he is the one player in the squad that can get me on the edge of my seat BUT I am not convinced about his fitness. He has the 'cheeky chappy' attitude but i wonder if he would be better if he really put everything into getting himself into tip top condition. Then his ability might really shine through.

I think it's absolutely undeniable that Scott is not being played in his best position. For a player with that much talent, I believe you build your squad round his needs. Nobody questioned his fitness etc when he was tearing teams apart at the start of the season.

He has hardly been played in his 'best position' at any time in his career. :-/

He certainly looked a lot fitter at the start of the season than he has done since say Oct

I don't want to rain on anybodys Parade, even Rodney's but he looked very good against us the season before last and didn't he score the goal at their place.

However many of the comments on here are identical to the ones we got when Mackreth signed.

Regards Neilson, I think he's the type of player who needs to be loved and probably indulged a little bit.  Not sure Hurst is the right man to get the best out of him, but he's not alone in failing to really discover what makes the player tick.  The fact a player of Neilson's ability is still at this level at his age says everything.

Personally I think we can afford to accommodate Neilson as he's THAT good at this level.
Posted by: Maringer, January 20, 2015, 10:24pm; Reply: 57
I remember Jolley as properly quick, tricky but a bit lightweight. Would be a good signing for us though as quick and tricky players aren't exactly falling out of the trees.

Neilson is inconsistent, as are most wingers/creative players at this level so it would be good to have both him and Jolley available to mix things up a bit. You can never have too many attacking options...

Didn't even realise he'd  been at FGR this season.

Potentially a good signing but what I would be concerned about is whether this would be a bit like when we signed Devitt a couple of Januarys ago (his second spell ). Devitt had been a good player a couple of years earlier but had struggled since, and he came back to us a shadow of the player of 2 years earlier.

Hopefully if Jolley signs he can recapture his form when previously at this level and not end up a disappointment like Devitt (mark II).

I think you're in the right area with this. An ex team mate of his told me when he signed that neilson was a 'marmite' player for both fans and managers alike. Bizarrely he also told me that neilson doesn't actually enjoy football or the job of being a footballer. That would explain quite a lot

Something has been playing on my mind since last May and with these posts regarding Neilson, I thought I would mention it now.

During the play off second leg last season, we must have been losing, maybe 1-0 or 2-1, I can't remember what the score was, but I can remember feeling miserable so we must have been losing. We were defending a free kick that meant we were setting up a wall. Neilson was next to Hannah in the wall and turned to him and said something. Hannah started laughing. I've no idea what was said but as I was feeling down myself, it struck me that these guys don't care anywhere near as much as me.

It was a big game, one that we were losing, and Neilson found the time to joke around while preparing to defend a free kick. Did anyone else see it?

That said, I do think Neilson is a great player that can change a game but as others have said, I'm not sure we can afford the luxury of taking a chance that he will turn up as we know he can.

Where's this come from Meza.

There's no mention whatsoever on Wrexham's OS or forum and that link above is duff!

That's why I never believe these signings will happen until I see them with my own eyes sitting on the bench.

Wrexham and Grimsby Town are among four clubs chasing his signature.
Quoted from South Wales Argus | 21st January 2015, updated: 2:45pm
Edinburgh confirmed the Exiles will reach an agreement with Jolley to see him depart, with the circumstances similar to the exit of Danny Crow.

The Exiles are looking to partially pay Jolley’s deal and for him to then join one of four interested sides – believed to include Grimsby and Welsh rivals Wrexham and two other Conference clubs – as a free agent.

“Christian is close, we are in advanced negotiations to come to a settlement on his contract and allow him to be a free agent and move to another club,” he said.

“Myself and Christian have had conversations that I will keep to myself on where he’s going to go or what he’s going to do, but I know he’s talking to four or five clubs."

It wouldn't surprise me though, Hurst did say he didn't want to alert other teams, so us fans start speculating, which alerts other teams :/  it's like telling the enemy when and where you're going to attack in the media.

Newport (South Wales) is a long way from Wrexham (North Wales).  There are no motorways between these 2 parts of Wales.

wouldn't be that bothered if Jolley didn't sign we seen it before players who do amazing things in one season for a club and never manage to repeat the achievement , if he was that good at FGR with all there money they would snap him up after seeing him first hand would you not think ????
Posted by: RoboCod, January 21, 2015, 2:55pm; Reply: 92
Wrexham are a bit rubbish too atm, and their manager will possibly not be their manager for too much longer if results like the recent bashing by Telford continue. Wrexham still look vey average post-Morrell.

i tend to agree with you . i wonder if the rumour picked up on here, then picked up by the press and then picked up by newport - its almost like chinese whispers. he's always played for southern clubs as well and i have a horrible feeling he's a 'busted flush' a sort of superior louis soares!

Not like town fans to get ahead of themselves regarding a potential signing!

Looks like we're wobbling here, quick - someone give him the talk about the supermarkets!!

Agree PH should insist on an answer now one way or another, its not like he`s Messi, I hope its not all our eggs in one basket carry on like last time, saying that we should know today one way or another

If we could get Palmer until the end of the season we would be ok (from the evidence of the Barnet game) he and Lenny caused a lot of problems.

He would turn out like Connor Jennings imo,

Now where did he go ?

I'm happy with the strikers we have.  I would like to see another decent wide player, as lack of service to the front is more of the issue in my view.  We miss Thomas going forward too and putting decent crosses in.

This is getting a tad boring now! Has he signed for anyone yet? Just been on Wrexham's twitter account and their forum and no mention of the fella! We havent signed him and yet there's 11 pages of waffle so surely they could manage at least 1 sentence on the subject :P
Posted by: Mariners_15, January 21, 2015, 4:53pm; Reply: 105
Not getting as excited as other people on this one! This time 2 years ago maybe but he hasn't done much since and didn't impress enough for Forest Green to keep him!! Would still be a good signing but I see him as more of a winger than a striker?

On the left wing doing very well at Wrexham by all accounts, so well in fact that there's a host of League clubs after him.

Down to three clubs Us, Wrexham and Dover

Dover doing OK but mostly part time with gates of around 600, Wrexham going down like a lead baloon, and us big team for this league firmly in the play offs, no contest IMO,   need to move on if he`s that hesitant, plenty of other fish in the sea

Well just listening to Hurst and reading between the lines on his responce regards Jolley i would say;

we have made an approach to Jolley which looks like it isnt going to happen.

Move on as a club, if he doesnt snap our hands off to play for GTFC for the remainder of the season then fvck him. Look for someone who will be readily keen to come.

Jolley is not as good as a few people on here think he is,

Like Jennings he has not scored many goals this season,

If Newport are prepared to pay off his contract so he can leave,

He can not be that good can he ?
Posted by: Meza, January 21, 2015, 8:21pm; Reply: 120
Lets just hope he has other targets in mind if Jolley decides not to come.  Apparently there were 5 clubs interested some of them could be league 2 and some could be local to him.  Shame about Aswad if true i hope his decision was homesick and not the abuse he allegedly received from his own teams fans even if it was only a small few.
