Fairly sure it is the officials which make the decision not the club.

Can't imagine that it's the same official(s) who've decided it can go ahead tonight compared to last week when the weather was a lot milder than it is today.

Can't say I'm too bothered one way or the other but it just seems nothing is ever consistent when it comes to Gateshead and their home games...

Cheers everybody. As luck had it, I was informed by the police at 2.45 p.m. and I managed to get in contact with our driver just before we were due to leave. Aw ful decision by Gateshead though. Should have called it off this morning before the team bus left.

It's ridiculous, this FA Trophy competition should be 1 leg only, if it's still drawing at 90 minutes then either extra time or just put it straight to penalties, we've got enough games to contend with as it is.

We should get all the non-league sides together and get a petition going to try force the FA to change the rules.

I'm sorry we've tried to play this match twice now and it's been unsuccessful. Time for the FA to step in and toss a coin.
Posted by: ska face, January 19, 2015, 5:16pm; Reply: 41
Is just astounds me that this type of incident happens year, after year, after year with this competition, and nobody of any standing within the Conference has taken the FA to task over it.

It's utterly farcical, and I can only imagine that the people in charge of the trophy enjoy their day out at Wembley and their bit of the limelight too much to worry about actually running a competent, efficient competition.

Happens every season with Gateshead i was so happy seeing the fixtures that we had Gateshead early and then we draw then out in the FA Trophy.

If Gateshead can produce video evidence that each of the pitch inspections - one last Wednesday at 12.30 p.m and two today (at 11.45 a.m. and 14.30 p.m.) were conducted and concluded properly, then end of story. I notice that they have not said on their website that Geoff Eltringham (Football League referee from Tyneside) was there at the 2.30 p.m. inspection, whereas he was at the other 2.

I remain unconvinced - particularly as I knew there was no point in travelling today (not that I would have).

comments like
disappointed but sensible, on the plus side it p****s Grimsby off  who we all hate

what a horrible club who i hope never get promoted,

I agree. Anything that further antagonises our fishy friends is good by me. If its off again on Wednesday can we make sure it's not announced till about 5pm please?

Think we must have hit a nerve  :) :) :)

So...... if the game is off through bad weather on Friday with no hope of a reasonable thawing / drying out of the ground, could the Nuneaton game be re-arranged quickly.... or is that too much to hope for????
Posted by: immariner, January 19, 2015, 6:32pm; Reply: 50
It's about time that the Conference clubs took a stand against this and threaten (meaningfully) not to enter the competition until wide-arching changes are made to the rules and format. Games need to be decided on the day and the first couple of rounds need to be Tuesday evenings.

Can we as fans do anything? Maybe we could boycott all replays (We kind of do anyway).
Could we get a petition going? Can we write to the FA?
Could we club together and buy Gateshead a few fan heaters?

This trophy needs a revamp. Midweek fixtures, North and South divide, 90 mins then straight to penalties, earlier start to the competition, low ticket prices (kids free), and some other incentive to win it like a free pass to the FA cup 1st round next season or something.

This is spot on. I bet conference sides have thrown matches in the past to get out of the competition.

I have sympathy with Nuneaton here. Surely they are going to lose out financially because of this farce.

All well and good saying the Conference clubs should get together against the replays but let's remember that Gateshead didn't agree to ET and pens. If I'd have known only 16 had gone on Terry's bus I'd have paid the 45% gate receipts out of my own pocket and told them they can go through!*

*well I'd have started a whip round.

Do we as a club get the choice to not enter the competition or is it compulsory? (Sorry being a bit thick here).  I was under the impression we didn't have a choice.  It's a good point though if we do have a choice is it actually cost effective to enter it at all?  Yeah it can end up a nice day out at Wembley (which costs us all an arm and a leg) but is it really even worth the bother when the format is how it is?

Sod Gateshead...  fans need fookin binoculars to see the pitch its that far away ( which probably benefits their fickle 500 )
let 'em have the tie and let's get on with some proper business... Hurst should send the kids and those who sit on the bench
if we have to fulfil this bloody daft fixture... Heed probably only get folk thru the gate who are banned at Newcastle anyway judging
by the number of their shirts inside the ground on match days...  way ay man.. it muss be tuff up  tyneside like...   ;D

(d) Replays which are Postponed or Abandoned
(i) When a replayed match has been postponed, or is abandoned before the completion of 90 minutes and neither Club being at fault, it shall be played on the same ground as directed by The FA.

This part of referees rules - rule 11 d is specific to the FA Trophy.

Seems to me there is no neutral person deciding whether any of the clubs are at fault or not.

Hence, the home team could play the situation for weeks, if they wanted to.
Posted by: mike_d, January 20, 2015, 3:18pm; Reply: 62
This is why I think The Heed can be accused of breaking the "through no fault" clause - they don't cover their pitch, have not made efforts to improve drainage, and _knowing the weather forecast_ and the fact it's January, chose to go to replay rather than settle on the day. intercourse the fact it's January and they can't be blamed for the weather, they can be blamed for knowing it's January and not trying to mitigate.
Personally, I think we should be trying to engender a winning spirit and do the promotion and cup double- intercourse the negativity of "we're in a tin pot cup" - there's been enough of that - let's say we can win both - get that positive vibe out.

The weather for Wednesday is poor so I suggest we postpone the game now,

Rearrange it for Thursday when the forecast is a lot better

Then send the juniors  to play the match.

Not sure anyone has had the idea to send the youth team yet? Is this something we've looked into?  ;)
