they than had a mini riot against FGR? which was a mass brawl at the end of the game.

they played Dartford Last night and received 2 Red Cards ?

We could possibly have them to play over two legs in the playoffs though.  :-/

Have they got Barnet, Bristol Rovers and Macclesfield in the weeks to come? And Eastleigh? And whoever else is doing alright?

Talking of bad refereeing performances, does anyone remember Carl Boyeson from when we played Donny in the League Cup in August 2003?

Des Hamilton got sent off for being pinned to the ground while the Donny player who did the pinning (and a bad tackle) got a yellow.

We lost the game 3-2, although one of our goals was a penalty where Boulding was floored one yard out and Boyeson failed to send the Donny player off - just minutes after he'd sent Marcel Cas off for tugging back on the edge of a crowded penalty area.

I'm pretty sure it was Boyeson again who reduced us to nine men in a game against Darlington at BP a year or two later.

Two games, four red cards. And the bloke's from Hull. You don't forget stuff like that!

I remember the Donny game, my only visit to Belle Vue.

We weren't too bad but Donny were a surprisingly decent team considering they had just won promotion out of the Conference whereas we had just been relegated from the second tier. Never played them in the League, however, as they won Division 4 as champions and we were relegated hopelessly under the useless Nicky Fecking Law. Of course, the referee was bloody useless (didn't realise it was Boyeson), but then so, it turned out, was Disco Des and Cas turned out to be less than "aweshome".

The only other thing I remember about the game was various gangs of young GTFC hoolies wandering around looking for trouble. Dickheads.

A real turnaround in fortunes for Donny over the past decade as they've been on an upward spiral at the same time that we have plummeted!  :-/

That Donny game was the 2nd worse refereeing performance I've ever seen - just behind that game against Darlo where Gritton missed a re-taken pen (04/05, not the 05/06 one mentioned above)

Didn't Gritton have to retake that penalty twice? I seem to recall that the referee ordered a retake the second time because some of the Darlington players were encroaching at the edge of penalty area so we were penalised for their misdeeds!

I'm sure Disco Des grabbed the guy by his throat and was pinning him down? And Cas' was his second yellow I think? It was definitely the worst refereeing performance I've ever seen though, that Boulding decision still baffles me to this day! Thinking about it more, wasn't the Boulding decision between the two red cards? I seem to remember us winning a free kick, Disco Des getting sent off and then someone hit the post (Anderson maybe?) and Boulding was about to put the rebound in and got flattened, then Cas went off later?

Never seen a ref as bad as Ross Joyce when we played Gateshead in the league at home last season.

I think you're right. We got a free kick for an appalling foul on Disco (cue red for retaliation) then we got the penalty a minute later. That put us 2-0 up and I think Cas was redded for a professional foul which gave them the pen to equalise.

I thought only once but it wouldn't surprise me. I think midfield dynamo Terence Fleming got sent off that day too!

2 of them seemed to foul Hamilton although one (Ravenhill?) is an absolute shocker. Good old Disco attacks the other lad though!

Hate to say it 11.5 years on, but I reckon he might have got the Boulding one right. Wasn't in control of the ball so not a cgso.

Speaking of shockers, who thought that kit was a good idea?!

You're right, it was just retaken once:

http://www.codalmighty.com/site/ca.php?article=366

It was that game (or just one of them against us) where Russell saved absolutely everything that came his way.

Referee was P. Taylor, apparently and Tony Butcher gave him a score of -1,273.9867 in his report!

Yeah that's right, he made some brilliant saves (as he did in the first game)

Cheers for the link - I see my memory of the Hamilton incident has been skewed over time! Still think that Donny defender should've walked for his foul. It was pretty cynical. Didn't even get a yellow, which made the Cas incident hard to take.

Yeah, looking at those highlights, it just shows what a dreadful double foul that was on Hamilton. The red card for him was deserved but one of those Donny players could easily have walked as well. Probably would have done in this day and age. A very nasty challenge. That was about as involved as Hamilton managed to get that season. Can't believe Newcastle once paid a million quid for him when a million was worth a heck of a lot more.

Although Boulding had fluffed his first touch, he was still well set to score until he was completely taken out by the Donny defender. How that wasn't a red card, I don't know. Cas' red card was correct but the earlier decisions made it hard to take.
