A very happy new year to all and every one of you and the Mighty Mariners.

Moved north of the border in 1991 and was so looking forward to Hogmanay in my first year up year, but was so disappointed. Had been told by ex Town stalwart Bobby Ross that there was nothing to beat a Scottish New Year, but it was not to match anything we got in Meggies at midnight - listening to the ship's hooters going off at midnight, seeing the flares go up from over the docks, people doing the conga down the street, bringing a stranger into your house for a drink, the lump of coal thing, etc. Used to be a great time.

This year, have made a Thai chicken curry from scratch, dry roasting all my spices to make a nice masala, and then very slow cooking the chicken and potatoes in the resulting sauce with coconut milk, lemon juice and fish sauce added along with a few fiery bird's eye chillies. Got some nice Rioja in, and a case of Old Speckled Hen, and 3 different malts for later on - depending on what I fancy. It will be quiet, which as an old git is now how I like it.

Slanje va!
