First of all thanks for posting the highlights !

Main points i took from these

1 - Alty didnt have a shot on goal until the 2nd half

2- LJL didnt look offside to me

3- we had enough chances to win the game

4- We played some lovely pass and move football

5- We sat to deep on a 1-0 when we should have pushed on and finished them off

6- Great Following !!

7- who was the Moron with the smoke Bomb?

8- An away point aint the end of the world !

Their goal was better than I remembered on the day. Great ball in almost impossible to defend. The LJL "goal" disallowance DID look dodgy to say the least

seen both sets of highlights and def not offside
also to many shots hit straight at the keeper, I think we should at least make them dive for it  :)

No way in the world was LJL offside then. Poor work from the linesman.

Looked as though we played some reasonable stuff at times, but needed to make more of our shooting opportunities. I thought Arnold's effort which was saved was perhaps a little weak though it did bounce awkwardly.

They seemed to win a disturbingly large number of headers in our box from set pieces.

Oh, I thought their equaliser was very well-worked and finished as well. Not the best of clearances from Parslow in the run up to this goal but I've seen us get away with much worse than that many a time.

Their lad took two good free-kicks which I don't think Macca would have got to.
Posted by: Maringer, November 17, 2014, 10:38am; Reply: 6
Those free-kicks weren't that close, despite what the commentator might have thought. Neither even touched the wood work which indicates both were probably a foot or more off target. A free-kick which hits the wood work is close.

Reading the Just Back comments you would have thought Totes and Parslow had put the ball on the line for their striker to finish.............................. I thought it was a great cross and finish TBF ..............

I was at the game and stood directly behind the shot and goal and it look much worse live. I agree it looks a good cross and great finish on Alty TV. Conversely, The Shops offside decision looks fairly dubious from the camera angle but that's difficult to say really.

That was my first game since Wrexham away. I thought that Wrexham deserved their point. Even though we had a goal disallowed, and forced a good saved from Coburn via Arnold, we never really tested their goal. They dominated the last 20 minutes and deserved their equaliser. I would even go far as to argue that if I was an Altrincham fan I'd feel a little bit cheated considering our goal was a deflected shot.

I have to say the idiots, aka Teenage Cas Club, with the smoke bombs yet again showered themselves in dignity. Not only did they spoil our most promising attack in the first half, they also made representatives of the club in town earlier, notably at the Wetherspoons pub, look like complete morons. I heard an Altrincham fan saying on the way out that they'd let a smoke bomb off in a pub. I sincerely hope this is not true.

Going back to the football. Despite a disappoint performance, as someone said in a previous thread, if we'd been offered 16 points out of 18 from the last 6 games before we started this run, we have bitten their hand off. We've moved right up the division to a comfortable second (for the moment) and look poised to threaten Barnet - remember we're still to play them twice. A great turnout of 717 Mariners shows the kind of support the team will get if we continue this form too. A stand with a roof on and I think we'd made a bit of noise on Saturday.

Finally, 13 minutes highlights?! The game was never that good!  ;)

Thanks for posting.

Just back...
From watching the highlights ;)

Arnold's 1st effort - should he have taken it on like he did for the goal ? Looked a strange sort of shot.
Pell - some nice touches and has legs in spells. OK he lost the ball but despite his limitations, no doubt there's something about him even if the whole package is up for debate.
Mackreth - very intelligent ball (and return from Magnay) - shame about the follow up...

Parslow - great ball in for the disallowed goal !
Good to see him being able drive forward too even if it left us a bit exposed on the counter.

Clearance - while I read it was Parslow's 3rd clearance to one of their men, can we really blame him too much if the whole Town side bar 1 is in their own box ?

Is it only me who wonders whether adjacent team-mates should be shouting "TIIIIIMMMME !" ?

Team "communication" ?
Ah that old chestnut, welcome back old friend...

If he can drive forward once, is it feasible to do it again ?
Not sure you tell me  - who knows it might buy some time and allow us to push out our own area.

Maybe if Clay had called and Brown had been "on his bike" to the right as the outlet it might have been different ?

While there's no prizes for "p1ssing around at the back" there's none for headless chickens either.
Least if you do lose it, it's not "1 on 1" and you've still got defenders back there.

Are we too slow to push out as a unit generally as well ?
I noticed Brown didn't stop the cross coming in either but whether that's harsh I guess it probably is.

Please advise...

Agree about the 'time' shouts for Parslow. He seemed to be stretching for it and rushed a poor clearance. He had time to take a touch and put a proper boot through it, which would've allowed us the time to get out the area. Nice flicked finish though.

McKeown knew the first free kick was going wide, didn't rush across to it. The 2nd one was closer I think.

Pearson covering saved Nsiala a red. Still think it was a 'great' foul.

Yeah good points, think you sum their goal and the foul up perfectly !

Out of interest what would have happened had he seen red ?
Cos he's out for 2 games anyway I think ?

On a more "positive" note however...
Thought there were some good moves going forward.
Slightly unlucky maybe - 90 min & if LJL's goal isn't ruled out....

tbf some 1-0's we'll defend and win, some we won't, that's football...
This 1 up thing is hardly new either, was saying it years ago on the OS !
Seem to remember saying "just pretend it's 0-0 when you're 1 up".
Easier said than done of course !

Still it's sometimes best to kill the game off asap if you can.
Unsuprisingly if 2 go in, players seem to relax a lot more...

It's a one match ban for a professional foul (and he'd still be on however many yellows he's on)

Hmmm, not sure if that's good news or bad.

Yeah it's a nice idea, but the other team are playing as if they're 1-0 down - they're going to pile on pressure! Obviously we withstood the pressure on Tuesday (and at Braintree and Wrexham) but didn't manage on Saturday.

Fair points.
Still think this "defend a lead" thing is playing with fire though. (tbf I did sound a note of caution before the match)
Also wonder if we maybe pull TOO many men back at times - sometimes it looks like everyone bar 1 in the box.
Leave an extra 1 up ?
Or just hovering outside the D to "clean up" maybe ? (same thing for OUR corners too IMO)
Suppose I wouldn't mention it except seen it in other games too.

I guess Hurst has already got the DVD out with a mug of tea as we speak...

Yeah I don't like it when everyone comes back for a corner or free kick.
Posted by: Maringer, November 17, 2014, 1:51pm; Reply: 18
If nothing else, bringing everyone back into the box means that you are unlikely to pick up the ball when it is cleared.

Much better to leave 2 or 3 players hanging around between the edge of the box and the centre circle where they will have a chance to pick up half-clearances.

My view is that if we are defending late in the game we should always leave a couple of our faster players further up the field to try and collect clearances or if this isn't possible to at least hassle the opposition players who collect the hoofs out of our defence

OMG.
Agreement on the fishy about "negative" points from "positive" posters (and you Abdul ! ;))
Whatever next I wonder...

Its amazing to me the quality of this footage, absolutely brilliant....and it's free on youtube....and we pay money for rubbish.....I thought their commentators are far, far better than what we get on Player (It's a nasty one!!! wide of the mark!!!! Thats what he would have wanted!!! screamed at us, week after week)....why do we get such low quality garbage? Thanks for posting PSG.

Oh FFS, if you don't like it don't pay for it.

And the reason for the quality has been done to death on here.

I wish the club would offer commentary-free highlights. I don't care if the commentator has been doing it forever, his commentary is jarring, error filled and shite.

That LJL offside/goal call looks very, very tight. Obviously, the highlights are not conclusive but he really doesn't seem anything other than level on that evidence. Think we might possibly have been a bit hard done by on that one.(blink2)
