I was brought up under the success of Newman and Kerr. My first thought was that if he doesn't like it why doesnt he sodomist off and let somebody with half an interest in their old club have a go. He was so pro Scunny in the cup matches last year I lost respect for him as a co-commentator/expert summariser then.

Posted by: mariner91, November 15, 2014, 3:50pm; Reply: 49
I'd get Disley off at half time for Brown, partly because the game is passing him by and partly because he's on a yellow. I'd consider giving Pell another ten minutes and if he doesn't step it up, introduce Brown. I'd also be tempted to go at these. Possibly sacrifice Arnold for Pittman, two up top with Neilson behind them and get the width from the full backs pushing up. A midfield three of Clay, Brown and Parslow is more than enough men in the middle against this lot.

I don't get this obsession with having ex-players and managers as summarisers.  I'd rather listen to Henry Winter, Guillen Balague and Gabriel Marcotti over Clarke Carlisle and Garth Crooks any day.

Why does Kerr commentate - he doesn't learn or know many of our team player names and just sounds disinterested, or still drunk !!

Bring back Bill Brewster - excellent commentary alongside John Tondeur last time out !

absolute disgrace, yet again an inability to beat a side in the lower reaches of the division.

Nsiala is a disgrace of a footballer. not good enough for Sunday League, the priority has to be a centre half to allow the midfiled to play with confidence.

We lost 2 points because of Parslow's pathetic clearance. He was garbage in midfield today. Should only play as a back up defender. If he could kick a ball into space instead of right back to their player we'd be on a 6 game winning streak now.

You can not win every when it's only 1-0,

We are still that striker away from being a promotion side.

Somebody who will finish off sides when it's tight.

Steady on fishes, we have just come off the back of 5 straight wins. Yes it is disappointing to concede a late goal, but we have the best defensive record in the league. No team is going to win every game. Instead of pointing fingers we need to  regroup and go again next Sat and get behind the team.

The fans have so far blamed the defence, the midfield and the attackers. Disappointing result but we are still on a fantastic run.

Amazing comments on here - we are the league's in form team and have dropped our first points in weeks and conceded first goal for weeks and people going on a rant!  Get some perspective people.  Gutting to concede late on but it's not a crisis.

This

Cheesed off to have dropped two points like that but I still think we'll catch Barnet. Kiddy next week, bring it on

I know it's disapointing & frustrating to drop points against lower teams but we can't win every game and I'd rather we drop the points against lower teams & beat the teams up there with us. If we had let in a late equaliser against Halifax & beaten Altrincham there would be less complaints but we would still have the same number of points as we have tonight & Halifax would be a point closer to us.

absolute disgrace, yet again an inability to beat a side in the lower reaches of the division.

Nsiala is a disgrace of a footballer. not good enough for Sunday League, the priority has to be a centre half to allow the midfiled to play with confidence.

And i thought i posted some excrement!

Do not worry Barnet will have a poor run sooner or later,

We are 3 points clear in 2nd place so nothing to be too disappointed about,

Back to winning ways next Saturday when I shall be in attendance.

Only caught very last bit of Hurst's interview but heard Kerr say he agreed with Hurst saying we dropped too deep.

To be fair you can't win them all but obviously the manner of it is frustrating for everyone.

I threw a note of caution in myself before the game...
http://www.thefishy.co.uk/cgi-bin/forum/Blah.pl?m-1415777868/s-15/#num20

But to be fair these things happen too.
So disappointing on the day yes (partly due to Barnet not our fault), but not the end of the world.

3 points in front of Gateshead
8 league games unbeaten
To be fair it was a whisker to extending a fantastic winning league run !  :)

Let's just start learning a little, working at it (cutting them some slack may help !) and move on at home.

Positives we remain unbeaten, chasing teams haven't taken advantage. Slight negative decent away following and the buzz returning for a lot of people just slightly tarnished

Morons.. 15 goals conceded in 21 games.. Least in the division and we want to get rid of a first choice centre back. Jokers. Nsiala must have been portrayed badly on radio because he was alright from where I was standing.  Poor goal
In the respect Mckeown was screaming block the cross block the cross... And Leather was unmarked at the time.. But general deep defending cost us as a team not Nsiala.  Still second and 3 clear of 3rd with Barnet to play twice :) we go again... UTM

Horrible listrning to it when you just know whats going to happen . Repeat of the Halifax game , holding on , just . Didn't work today , seen it all before , very frustrating when we know we're better than this . Tough games coming up , think by Christmas we will know where we stand .

The scapegoat is Parslow since his inability to clear a ball when he had all day to do so cost us.

Still wouldn't want to see him scapegoated for an error. We all make mistakes. Was it reflective of his overall performance?

You could just as easily say that we should have finished one of our numerous chacnes and been 2-0 up, and therefore a mistake at the back would not have cost us the win.

I'm just annoyed about it because it was such a poor pass and easily preventable if he'd just put some effort into his clearance and punted it towards the corner flag so we could clear our lines. I didn't think he played particularly well, but then again I don't think he's a midfielder and would have started Clay instead if Hurst was insistent on playing a holding midfielder. He's solid enough defensively but poor with the ball at his feet and it cost us today.

I think JT said he left his man.

But whether it's true or not, agree with JT it's utterly ridiculous for callers to say "Worse ever player in a Town shirt" and concur with his general feeling of "shakes head in disbelief".

That said (leaving today aside), don't think Toto's necessarily shown he's been "100% rock solid" (tbf who is in any 1 game?) in every game this season either.

However whether Parslow or Magnay at CB would improve things long term is up for debate.
Because Oxford aside (won 1-0 today BTW ! (thumbup)) Toto must have doing something right during this long winning league run.
He's certainly been pushing for MOM in some games (IMO)

Defend from the front, stay tight in midfield, harass and challenge for the ball, keep up a high tempo.

All great cliches until a team packing midfield stifles the field.

Still hoping that Scott Brown regains full fitness to start games and boss the midfield soon - a piece that is missing at present, although 7 games unbeaten is still good going.

Onward !

Yeah fair enough. I've calmed down now anyway after watching the police herd 100 town fans onto the wrong platform at Stockport station when they were on the right one in the first place. A very loud chant of " YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING " towards the police has just started up ;D

Ridiculous assassination of Toto
I have to say I don't think he looks totally solid at times and he always looks like he wants 'to get a toe in' in the penalty area but he must be doing something right most weeks with our defensive record.
On this basis, no player is ever allowed to make a mistake and we should win every single game.

Altrincham sounded poor so perhaps it's more frustrating we didn't score a second, then the one bad mistake which is made does not cost us so much.
The result is everything - similar performance (from radio comm) to Braintree it seems, but we won that and everything is rosy

16pts from last 18 is excellent

Need to get a grip of reality - won home game and drew away; continue that and we won;t be far away

This thread has some embarrassing shite on it, Nsiala had a decent game. We weren't at our best today but it's not the end of the world. I agree it was Parslow's poor clearance that kept us on the back foot. To be fair to Altrincham they deserved a point.

Appreciate your support today and share some of your disappointment and frustration.

But tbh, it feels a little late to object about "who should've started" now. (IMO !)

Perhaps you should have posted your fears BEFORE on "Team for Altrincham" ?

I noticed you posted your preference for Neilson on "Team for Halifax".
Maybe Hurst heard you before but didn't this time and might have done again if you had ? Who can really say for sure...
Same as Big Chris seemed to get things fairly spot on in HIS selection v Halifax, credit to many others (including yourself) for guessing correctly saying Neilson should have started too.

But all this "if Hurst was insistent on" well, I'm afraid you pick your own XI.
You don't wait for Hurst to pick his team before deciding on yours ?

That said, there's AMPLE opportunity to state fears + preferences for certain positions and formations (and let's be fair "holding midfielder" is hardly new) in same thread before the game kicks off too.

FWIW I think Clay could fit into the "holding midfielder" position in the future too !

I'd seriously encourage you to post (preferably your full XI) because I honestly believe it's possible the club could genuinely benefit from these suggestions. (perhaps some won't agree however !)

And same way players make mistakes, surely no-one is ever expecting anyone to be Alex Ferguson (or Hurst) and get it right every time either.
Not that many people's ever get picked anyway with 11 players but there's always room to share preferences, fears and ideas.

Now whether Hurst should or shouldn't listen to fans (assuming he reads the fishy anyway !) is another question.
But facts are, you've every opportunity to post your team and preferences beforehand.
So there's no need to necessarily object or complain after.

While posting all these painful (but seemingly necessary) long posts to point out the bleedin' obvious might good enough reason to just stop, I continue to be very grateful to the fishy and to Rob (thankyou BTW !) for all his continual hard work (does such a great job !) and the opportunity to read and contribute as a mere fan looking on from the outside.

I honestly think it's quite a privilege really !

is that me? I ask because I said I thought he should be benched....I wasnt there so I don't know but going by JT's commentary he had a poor game, plenty of mistakes to choose from and to be honest, listening to all the matches I didnt pick up that he had lived up to the hype, that's all. Does that make me a troll?

Oh, I just re-read, you mean Bruce Spingsteen. Hm, no idea.
