Very disappointing result.

was at the match.

was a decent competitive game with some half decent quality on show.

Josh Venney made 2 great runs which resulted in him getting taken clean out, also noticed he can take free-kicks ! one was well saved by the keeper creeping in, and the others resulted in our players getting a head on the ball ! - he did however miss a penalty

special note for Shaun Pearson, who was in the dugout shouting orders and helping out.
Grimsby keeper got injured and called for a stretcher and it was Shaun along with a few stewards who went running on with the stretcher so fair play to him

Not a club with a great pedigree so I'd agree on paper it looks a disappointment not to get past them

Maybe they benefit from being in a good catchment area for their youth even if the first team only ply their trade at North West Counties level

Let it be a lesson for the first team on Saturday though...lower level opposition doesn't mean they can't rise to the occasion so we need to be alert and be on top of our game

This from Wikipedia
FA Cup
Second Qualifying Round 2012–13
FA Vase
Third Round 2002–03
Largest attendance: 1,461 vs FC United of Manchester 2006–07 season.

Josh Venney sounds like he is a handfull.
Just hope the lads read this to hear me say "Grimsby til I die"
Mariners overseas say thank you and goodnight

FFS...
All released the previous year, cant beat a part time team youths set up,  cant take penalties......players who do "come through" dont even get a look in at first team level......what is the point of carrying on the youth set up, just a drain on resources and largely supported by the trusts money ??
....
....

..before someone else says it  ;)

Can we really conclude from one game that the whole youth setup is defunct? It's provided us with several first teamers this season, ok they haven't been used yet much, but their day will come.

Has it now? Provided us with... bench warmers..only covering spots left vacant by injuries more like.

My initial post was tongue in cheek by the way.  :P

Because of the injury to Brown and Parslow going  back to York  surely it is the ideal time to pick Venney against Guisley on Saturday. Plus Disley needs to be kept fit for the game against Dartford.

Surely Disley's capable of playing 2 Saturdays in a row?

He probably is capable of playing 2 games in a row but why take the chance in him getting injured. Venney seems to have earned the chance so lets give him a go.

We need to win on Saturday. The F.A.Cup can be very lucrative and throwing in a youth team midfielder in place of the club captain is a daft idea IMO. We have enough senior midfielders to cover most situations.

I've massive hopes for Venney but as I said post-Lincs Cup final, he's still a kid!

We've got to be really careful in building the expectations of him up at such a young age.  He's still learning the game and is far from the finished product.  He's definitely got something but he hasn't got everything yet.  By all means lets put him on the bench and if we're 3-0 up with 30 minutes to go then we can rest someone and let him have some game time.

I don't want to dash any hopes around the kid but he is miles away from starting him in a very important fixture when we have 3 first choice midfielders fit (Clay, Disley & McLaughlin).

As a secondary note regards the cup tie, was it advertised on the official site?

I didn't see it and when I saw the floodlights on about half 8, thought there might be a game.  Logging onto the official site later that evening I saw the result.  I'm not saying they'll get thousands in but the club seem half-arsed about promoting the youth fixtures at BP.

Put him on bench as 7 subs allowed if cruising bring him on for 20 mins. I genuinely think if this club is to survive some of the young pros walker etc need to be given game time. If we can sell a young lad for a few grand happy days

Excuse me sir, i am not sure if you have got confused but this is "The Fishy" an online forum for Grimsby Town fans essentially revolving around knee jerk reactions to the trials and tribulations of Grimsby Town Football Club, please save your sensible, well thought out ideas for somewhere else.   ;)
