Vanarama Conference club Forest Green Rovers FC recently requested the Football Conference to arrange a Personal Hearing to consider an alleged breach of Membership Rule 6.9 for fielding an ineligible (unregistered) player in its match at Southport FC on Saturday, 9th August 2014.

The Hearing was conducted at the competition’s Birmingham Office today.

The club accepted the charge and presented circumstances preceding the offence, in mitigation. The club also asked the Conference Panel to consider exercising the discretionary element in the Rule that permitted the competition to order a replay of the match.

The Panel carefully considered all the written evidence submitted prior to the Hearing and considered the club’s verbal submission presented today. It also considered the discretionary power available to it within Rule 6.9 before finding as follows:-

Forest Green Rovers was found guilty of fielding an ineligible player on 9th August 2014 in its match at Southport.

The club was fined £500 and had the three points it gained in the match, deducted from its league table score.

The Panel considered but declined the club’s request to have the match replayed.

The above decision is subject to the club’s right of Appeal to the Football Association within 14 days of the date of written notification.

Big chance tomorrow for us to make ground on the teams above us. We are 12th now due to the points deduction.

11th place Kiddy play 4th place Woking.
10th place Braintree play 3rd place Halifax.
9th place Wrexham play 8th place Eastleigh.

Amusing that they even bothered to ask the Conference to consider exercising their discretion in this matter. The Conference give you nowt if any rules are deemed to have been broken!

True, but they would have been slated by their fans if they had not even bothered to try to get it overturned.

And if they didn't and missed out on promotion by three points.... they would never have known if they could have had an extra three points. !!

They're lucky it was only the three from the game. Didn't Wimbledon lose 18 points for a similar offense

3 sounds quite lenient for this league.

The statement only refers to one game though, so not sure how the penalty could be any more than 3 points?

They are considering an appeal. Bit odd as they pleaded guilty....

Southport got the 3 points for winning the game 1-0,  FGR offered to replay it, they should have took 3 more points for their cheek,
I am surprised Southport were not awarded the game 3 -0 as seems usual in these cases , a couple of goals may make a big difference in goal difference if it is tight at either end of the table at the end of the season
