The curious case of Nathan Arnold. Please could someone clarify for a Mariner not so connected as he used to be what on earth is going on? Mr Hurst says "calf tear" and that he should be "nearing a return" but sources close to the kiosk between the Findus and Pontoon suggested otherwise on Monday...

It's mentioned on here about Arnold. Says they were hopefully of him being ready for today but it now looks like next week.

When Nathan gets back he'll have to fight for his place like everyone else.

My Dad was talking to a mate in the Lower Findus Monday, he reckons Arnold is homesick..?

I work in Mansfield on Tuesdays and end up nearby in Edwinstowe on Wednesday's. Nathan is welcome do get up at 5am for a tour of the docks, he 'll be knee deep in cod eyes and slime before an 80 minute drive to glorious Nottinghamshire where he will spend the next 12 hours serving wonderful Grimsby fish to his countymen. Then tired and stinking, he will make the massive pilgrimage back to Great Grimsby before repeating the following day.

That or he could get on with his paid kickabouts in the morning before finishing at lunchtime and winning a few bob on the 2.40 at Kempton and doing the 'job' he's being paid for.

He has been injured and now he is nearly fit,

Nothing else going on,

Only rumours that you should pay no heed too.

Don't forget playing a round of golf, 5hagging your next door neighbour and a quick game of FIFA

How many times lately do we hear that a players homesick, is it a new type of injury,I hadn't heard of it until recently. Is there a cure ?. In Nathans case how can anyone from Mansfield have that sort of injury.

If these rumours are true I will be sorry if we lose him as I think he could be a good player for us. Another with skill and pace going forward who would create and score goals. There is something wrong if he is not at least on the bench on Sat, given Lenny will be with us in the stand.

Probably even more homesick now Connell has gone. They were stopping at the same place.

Heard about a month ago he wanted to go back home... so it might have actually been true.

I don't go with this homesickness.   He is being paid, under contract, to play for us.

When we beat Alfreton 7-0 somebody ob here said that he sat there looking miserable.

I left Mablethorpe at just 16 to join the Forces in Hereford.  I had what was put down as severe homesickness.  You were not allowed home very often during training and you had to travel right across country by rail to get home.  I persevered and did 14 years regular service.

Surely Arnold can give it a try at the very least?

Maybe he thinks that for some reason he has picked the wrong club.

Even if he was looking a little glum could be anything - stubbed toe, dog just died etc we just don't know.

We know for sure he's been injured + out the team.
Hardly any suprise if he wasn't dancing in the street.

My wild guess (that's all it is)...
There won't be any issue once he gets his opportunity.
Hope I'm right !

Or, maybe... just maybe... he didn't want to gloat in front of his old club. He did spend a few years with Alfreton and helped them achieve promotion; he probably still has a few good mates on that team.

Christ, he was probably trying to show as much class as he could, and instead here we are bashing him and calling him miserable, homesick, etc..

Perhaps the reason he was looking a little glum was that he jumped out of his car at BP and stood in some Dog Sh!t and ruined his new trainers.

He is on a season long loan, so how does it work ?

Has he got to go back to Cambridge first or can we insist he stays,?

Maybe he is not happy if that is the case because he his not playing,

Once he is fit and in the team he might be overjoyed.

Paul Hurst reads The Fishy so maybe he will come out and squash these rumours,

Or confirm them.

AFAIK, season long loans can't be recalled by the parent club, but as far as the player wanting to return of his own free will, I don't think we can stop that.

Nor would we want to, if he is homesick (I say IF} he would be a passenger on the promotion express,  anyway during pre season matches he seemed OK

For what it's worth, on Mariners Player yesterday Matt Dean asked Paul Hurst about speculation on here of Nathan Arnold being home sick... Hurst laughed and said "Norr! He's got a house here now"

Check in Bignott (tight groin) and Said Arnold was taken off as a precaution in the friendly with Ferriby, just sore from not playing a full match, his calf not giving him any gip! and the fans should see him at some point on the pitch on Saturday... both should be available to play.
