Anyone heard a rumour that we are about to sign Nathan Doyle (ex-Bradford City)?

Defensive midfield player released by Bradford last season when they signed Gary Liddle.

Heard this from a source in Bradford.

Not sure why we we would need another centre mid, Upfront is where we are clearly lacking. We need offensive, creative players not more defensive players.

Agreed, unless there is some concern about Disley.

Probably a load of rubbish but it's strange for me to get info like this from Bradford.

Even so I wouldnt really class Dizza as a defensive midfielder.

He was playing pretty deep last night I thought....almost like a 5th defender at times

He will be behind Clay in the pecking order if true

Can play right back too, we're a bit light on numbers there!

Can't see it we got plenty of players who can play in Midfield i could understand a backup fullback or a striker perhaps.

regardless of what we already have, he would be a really good signing, can play right back, centre or right mid, i dont think he will drop to this level though.

We need goal-scoring strikers if we are to get promoted.

I think he'd be a terrific signing - always  impressed me when I've seen him play. I understand what people are saying about not needing someone in that position but I think sometimes players become available that are too good to turn down,  regardless of position.

I think we're fine with our current selection of defenders/defensive midfielders. Even if such a player is really, really good, surely we would be better off spending wages on attacking players?

We've got 3 capable central defenders (4 with Boyce on loan and 5 with Magnay who can also play there), 3 proven full-backs (plus Walker and Winfarrah who look good prospects) and 3 proven central midfielders plus the young lad Clay. Surely we don't need to strengthen these areas any further?

Well we know hurst is a defensive minded manager and as you saw he bought boyce back so anything defensive wise it wouldnt surprise me.

Well, getting Boyce back for a month seems good business. With Pearson and Nsiala suspended for the first game of the season (two for Pearson), having a backup for Doig was useful.

I think we're pretty well covered for defensive players at the moment and it would take a huge injury crisis (as with the attackers at present), for us to struggle at the back, even after Boyce goes back. It will be good if Walker can make a bit of a breakthrough as well this season to match up with Winfarrah's encouraging performance the other night.

Maybe hurst is using the old adage.......defence is the best form of attack?

The only thing I can think is that Boyce won't be here longer than a month and we're looking at playing 4-3-3? That would potentially reason for our lack of attacking players if we only needed 3 each game and not 4.

Doubt it but a great player seen him boss arsenal and villa midfielders hard as nails... We will never get him

I'm just bumming petition signitures off the Bradford City forums, they know nothing whatsoever what Nathan Doyle is doing in terms of aquiring a new club, they reckon he will goto another League 1, or decent League 2 club.

Probally a wind up?

Hurst has "rubbished" this story in the telegraph. Not happening.

Don't really need any more defensive players, so if he did come i for one would be disappointed.

I don't doubt that the Telewag asked Hurst for comment about Doyle themselves after they had consulted their number one source of stories.  ;)

Bloody good player, who just wanted that extra bit of moula that we weren't prepared to pay - if quite happily welcome him back on reduced wages.

I don't know what you pay in wages, but he was on circa £2,500 a week last season.

Top earners are getting about £1000 I should imagine. Well that's what our captain was earning a few seasons ago.
