Interesting interview with Scott Neilson coming up on Humberside. Sounds like he feels he's more than capable of playing the full 90 minutes, but Hurst still decides to sub him off in every game for some baffling reason.

Prob would've chosen that too but would have had Hatton in for Bignot as he's a superior footballer and offers something for set pieces and crossing, which have both been sh1t recently.

Yeh but as good as some of the results were, winning the match itself wise, when this season have we ever looked truely confident and dominant, some of our best performances last season were superior to the ones this season, we always look far too cautious this season in my opinion.

I mean im all for sticking with a manager, but how much time is enough? what low do we sink to, and what is there to give us encouragement right now?

So people still can't actually give an answer to the question 'who do replace the manager with'...

People really do have some odd thoughts.

Not sure what Hurst will say after this, same interview as 7 days ago maybe...unlucky, could have/should have got at least a draw. Ridiculous.

He`s clueless!

FT, disappointing after such a good start but we conceded two avoidable goals and not finished the chances we had.

Deflating, I hope Hurst has a couple of cards up his sleeve because we have a few well off the boil

What a truly awful f***ing February, only 1 win in a competition none of us cared about, 1 point in the gained in the league after playing a plyoff rival and a team in the relegation zone twice!  Feel sorry for the Town fans who were there tonight.

We still have 5 games in hand on playoff places but it feels like i have been saying that for ages now and we are slipping further away.  Very frustrated but have to find some hope we can turn it around on Saturday, if we don't beat Sailsbury then I think I will really begin to panic.

We know it will get better?

How many years you been saying that.

Fenty to break the bank to get gary mills or steve burr , both cant be on big contracts.

Time to save our season or this will end like the last one

If we dont beat Salisbury, the only reason Hurst will still be in a job is because we cant afford to sack him.
Plenty of managers to replace him with, he's hardly setting the world alight.

That said, I think we will beat Salisbury and then go on and make the play offs! After all, we all want the manager to stay.

It does make you wonder how much of Paul Hursts "form" earlier in the season actually came from some of the work Rob Scott had put into the team, and now with Rob out of the picture, Hurst is coasting? It's painful to say it as I don't necessarily believe that - but just wondering it that's actually what's happened.

Really disappointing - I really felt this was going to be the year for us to go up finally, if not automatically, in a play off thriller - but I'm starting to get cold feet frankly.

From having a lot of games in hand and only a few points behind the teams above us it's not looking very good now.

Barnet 8 points behind but 5 games in hand (means we need to win at least 3 of those)
Alfreton 8 points behind and now only 4 games in hand. (again need to win at least 3)
Salisbury 4 points behind but 4 games in hand which makes Saturdays game a must-win or else they'll be looking hard to catch now too.

Do not think we can gamble that heavily on 'a saviour' as the turmoil would be unlikely to help.  When we are hardly in a good financial situation with almost all our squad out of contract at the end of the season think we have to be somewhat prudent.  I would rather have a club to support than no club!

That said this is becoming a big crunch time for Hurst, what started as a blip is now becoming a severe slump.  However if we can get past this and rediscover some of our earlier season form we should still be in the playoffs and as long as do not play as badly as last year in them we have a chance.

We reached the 40 point mark on december 19th when we beat kidderminster I beleive, 9 out of 24 since, so had we won all our games, we'd be sitting in second, on 64 points, 8 points behind luton, with 3 game in hand worth a potential 9 points. Obviously it we were never going to win them all, just shows how well luton have done though.

Shaun Pearson`s interview was honest and to the point, blames himself for the second goal and is determined to right it on Saturday.
Still in with a great chance but require loan bodies in now to cover injuries

Errr, I don't! He's got no energy, no ideas and no inspiration. (Unless that was sarcsm but it's lost on me tonight as I've had to much J.D. to drown my sorrows! )  8)

Big test for Paul Hurst now, in terms of dealing with pressure.  Obviously he's been through it before, but not by himself, and I expect Scott's shoulders were quite broad - it must be tough to have to deal with it alone when you're used to being in a partnership.  A test for the players too - we will soon see how much they are prepared to give of themselves in supporting their gaffer and how much of a cohesive team they really are when things aren't going to plan.  Everybody was praising their team spirit during the first half of the season, and saying that was the big difference between this year and last year - well let's see how good that spirit really is.

And a test for the fans too of course (not that we need to prove ourselves - had plenty of traumas to overcome in the last few years and come through them OK), but again we have a choice.  Continue to support the team or throw in the towel.  Let's see who does what.

Was this the same Shaun Pearson that said we wasnt going to repeat the mistakes of last season and was looking forwards to giving Southport a wallopping in tonights Telegraph ?

You say that, but when? From what I know about his career he's been at two teams that were good for their league, and led them to high positions in those leagues, then he's come here which should be a similiar scenario, but theres more pressure, and you could argue looking at the tail end of last season and then now, that maybe the pressure is a bit too much. Everyones got to learn, but tonights result has got to be the tipping point, and now he can't just put another team out and hope for a better performance and a bit of luck, I think he's got to try something different, doesn't have to be drastic, but theres flaws in our system in struggling to break down opposition and being hit on the break so i'd like to see some pro-activeness from the manager and a willingness to change things.

Obviously he's going to have to make some changes due to the injuries we've got.  We could have done without them.

Yes, he's been under pressure before .... here!  Things haven't always been a bed of roses during his time managing this club.  People have short memories, but there were some dodgy results and angry reactions, only Scott was there in the past to shoulder some of the blame and abuse (and give it back when he saw fit).

Our record against Southport in the conference make grim reading.

P8 W1 L2 D5  Never more than one goal in it, and never put more than 2 past them.

The other worry is that earlier in the season, if we went in front we didn't lose, and more often than not, we won.

Town losing 2-1 after being 2-1 up! Nice one J.T! Lol! Oh, he's just added Brodie booked for a stamp on Brodie! :-)

I hate listening to Tondeur commentating,he sounds so excited when the opposition are on the attack and when we are in their box you would think we were still in our own half,he shows no passion for our team. We could do with someone like Scott Dalton from Radio Lincolnshire,He commentates all the Boston United Matches and he's excellent at his job.

To be fair, this is the first game we've lost after taking the lead. The only other game we've dropped points after being in front in was Gateshead.

Then again, it's difficult to be in front if you concede early and hardly ever score more than 1 goal  :(

I think the problem is, that tonduer, an experienced town fan, is in the habit of being terrified when the opposition have the ball, and finding it hard to beleive anything will happen when we're on the attack

Like a broken record, Hurst says we should have got something from the game and seems to take no blame for the awful result; only suggesting we should be 'better', that we don't have much luck and the goals we conceded were down to poor defending. He does concede he'll have to look at loan signings, but the way he said it sounded like he doesn't have any targets in mind, which isn't very reassuring - http://www.grimsby-townfc.co.uk/news/article/reaction-from-southport-1383171.aspx

It's hardly surprising John Tondeur isn't the most optimistic commentator given he's spent the last 10 years or so watching Town fall down the divisions while messing things up every time things start to look slightly promising again.

For the record I think he's an excellent broadcaster and we're lucky to have him. You only have to look back to the dark days of Fenty's fall out with Humberside leaving us with Compass FM's amateurish commentary team for a whole season to see that.

exactly. Bad enough listening to this heartbreak week after week, year on year, knowing their first, possibly only attempt will go in, knowing we will labour and either fail dismally in front of a handful of opposition fans or offer up a glimmer of hope before sticking the knife in and still failing dismally.
