Or songs!

This is a thread i thought would be worth starting, not sure if its been done before or if it was successful? Someone will post a link if thats the case and apologies in advance....

With a lot of posters requesting the old songs, no-one knows the new songs etc I thought if anyone knows any songs or chants would they please post them here so the drummer and any singers/chanters can have access to the material. This sort of thing was passed down through generations or learnt in the playground and later pubs etc but its a technological age and online is where its at!

As posted on the drummers thread, i'llkick off with my favourite,

You fill up my senses, like a barrel of tetleys

Like a packet of woodbines, like a good pinch of stuff/snuff?

Like a night out in nuns-thorpe, like a greasy chip butty

The super black and whites, come fill me again.

Na Na Na Na Na Na Na  Town!

And Fish, clap clap, clap clap clap. Fish, clap clap, clap clap clap. Fish and repeat.

Hopefully some of the older songs which mean so much to GTFC and the supporters who sang them will find their way on here and the history will be repeated.

UTM.

Stand up for The Mariners,
Stand up for The Mariners,
Stand up for The Mariners,
Stand up for The Mariners,
Stand up for The Mariners...

Footie fan Bloke: Give me a G!
Crowd: G

Bloke: B
Crowd: B
Bloke: Y
Crowd: Y

Bloke: What have you f*cking got?
Crowd: Grimsby, clap, clap, clap...
Grimsby, clap, clap, clap...

Footie fan Oh I do like to be beside the seaside,
Oh i do like to be beside the sea,
With me hatchet in me hand,
Killing yorkies on the sand,
Beside the seaside, beside the sea...

Bertie Mee said to Bill Shankly,
"Have you heard of the North Bank Highbury?"
No said bill you cockney twit,
But I've heard of the Pontoon Grimsby"

Footie fan We're black, we're white,
We're fu**ing dynamite,
Grimsby Town,
Grimsby Town!

If you come down to Blundell Park,
You're sure of a big surprise,
There's me and my mate,
Stood at the gate with our filleting knives,
We'll spray ammonia in your eyes and slash you with our Stanley knives,
If you come down to Blundell Park in the morning...

Boots are made for booting,
That's just what they do,
And one of these days,
These boots are gunna kick f**k outta you...

I'm a bow legged chicken,
I'm a knock kneed hen,
Ain't had me hole since I don't know when,
Walk with a wiggle,
Giggle with a squawk,
Doing tyhe pontoon boot walk...

Footie fan My old man said follow the Town,
And don't dilly dally on the way,
We'll take Scunthorpe and all that's in it,
We'll take Lincoln in half a minute,
With hatchets and hammers,
Carving knives and spanners,
We'll show the b*stards how to fight,
With a kick in the head,
And a kick in the b*llocks.
We'll be here all night...

As I understand it, we always used to give opposing fans a box of smoked haddock at kick off......and the fans would sing......could be urban myth? Does anyone know??

He only drinks whiskey and bottles of brown,
Coz' Benny the dockers in town.

Take my hand,
Take my whole life too,

I don't know if there is a particular tune to this, it's a chant and I know it from my dad. Though have never heard it chanted at a town game since I have been going. Think I know how it goes though. Just chant it as it's typed.

I'm a bowed legged chickhen,
I'm knock kneed he-en,
Ain't had me hole since I don't know whe-en,
Walk with a wiggle,
Giggle with a squa-wk,
Dooing tyhe pontoon boot walk...

I'll ask me dad next time I see him.

Quite like the idea of the rod stewart song, different for sure. Would love us to have an iconic song just of our own. Cannot help but feel envious when stoke sing delilah, or liverpool youll never walk alone, even hi ho wolverhampton at full blast is flipping impressive, and celtic singing just cant get enough and rangers penny arcade are massive. Trouble is these are sung by entire grounds not just 30 young lads in the pontoon, any new song really does have to take off or it would sound pants, it has to be sung by all to have any efffect.

We'll be comming down your road,
When you hear the noise of the barmy Grimsby boys,
You'll know we're comming down your road...
Also sung by Liverpool and Celtic, I think.

Come on Grimsby boys,
Make some facking noise,
We'll get wild, wild, wild...

Come on, come on,
Come on, come on,
Come on, come on, come on,

I made a couple up but haven't sang them at town games. One I'll share and you tell me what you think.

We have passion, We have pride in our Grimsby,
We have passion, We have pride and our dreams,
How we all like to dream about our Grimsby,
Cause our Grimsby is the greatest team...

(Insert opposing player/managers name here) 5hits his underpants.

To the tune of Scott and Hurts black and white army.

It heckles the opponent and it it's not too offensive. Would love to hear this sung at BP again. Made me howl the first time round. Did this start with Kevin Sheedy shits his underpants??

Peter Bore or Rob Duffy would be good names to use for the Lincoln games.

It uis ok but the original sums the desire to be arpund GTFC more...."then the Can you hear me Can you hear me" then involves the oppostion fans a bit

I'm forever throwing bottles,
Leathal bottles in the air,
They fly so high, they reach the sky,
Then they fall and hit some guy,
Oh I'm forever fighting, nearly everwhere,
I'm forever throwing bottles,
Leathal bottles in the air!
We're Grimsby! Clap, clap, clap...

Come on lads, this is getting a bit daft now. You do not sing West Ham song, it is there's. we can adapt plenty of songs and make them our own.

I like N-Dubz 'Your the One' though doubt it would take off  ;D

I see the new ones haven't been posted yet so I'll do them.

And where you go we follow, we follow, we foolow,
We all support the Grimsby, the Grimsby, the Grimsby,
And that's the way we like it, we like it, we like it,
Waaaooo, woooaaa, waaaooo, woooaaa...

Everytime I see the Grimsby I go out of my head,
I just can't get enough, I just can't get enough,
All the things you do to me and all the things you said,
I just can't get enough, I just can't get enough,
We slip and slide as we fall in love and just don't seem to get enough of,
Doh, Doh, di di, doh doh, di di, black and white army!...

I know what you mean, not a massive fan of them myself but the younger lads started 'em and I join in just as I'd want them to join in with me.

I love that one you mentioned. Could even use the irish drinking songs, no other clubs do. I don't think.

Oooh Liam Hearn is magic he wears a magic hat,
And when came round calling he said I fancy that,
He scores them with his left foot,
He scores them with his right,
And when he goes out on the town,
He scores all flipping night..

One from the 60s/70s - sung to the tune of The First Noel - Matt Tees (repeat 4 times), Born is the king of Blundell Park.

Also a good sing along - the instrumental intro to Centrefold by J.Geils Band - very popular in the eighties

I'm going back to the late 80's, early 90's now when this little ditty was doing the rounds at most Town away games. Factually incorrect on more than one count though!

Similar to the "Everywhere we go" chant sung by The Pontoon now, one person sang the line and the rest joined in after.

"Everywhere we go,
The people wanna know,
Where the hell are you from,
We are from Grimsby,
Supersonic Grimsby,
Haddock and chips,
One pound fifty,
Buy em from the Seaway,
Number One chippy,

It seems years ago grimsby used to be a place opposition players didn't like to come purely because of the home support but that has since died and whilst the players are doing their bit we should do that little bit more after all we have something to sing about being top and if we want BP to be a place of fear and intimidation we need to up the noise levels and chant for longer than a few mins.  One game I remember very well during the Buckley years was when we played Stoke at home i think we won 1-0 and the away support didn't stop singing all game the atmosphere it created was incredible and made our win the more enjoyable until the final whistle when they tried to get on the pitch and cause crowd trouble snapping the crossbar in the process.

Some really good stuff on here, hope we are able get them sung on match days. I think we should use the chants as pure entertainment when the game isn't very entertaining too, not just to get behind the team.

I go by the saying, "if I ain't entertained by the game, I'll make my own entertainment." After all we all pay to be there.

I remember a chant I mentioned when before we played Forest Green but never used it, it's a funny (ish) one.

Beans! Beans! Are good for your heart, the more you eat, the more you fart.

I know a couple on here liked it when I mentioned it before so thought it be worth mentioning again.

That Ken Barlow song would be good too.

All noise is good so not sure I'd say it doesn't help (and also question some of the e.g. "kill yorkies" lyrics too !).
But was gonna make a similar point too tbh.

Nothing wrong with it but are we in danger of only singing songs cos we enjoy them ?
Or focusing our effort on what helps the team as well ?

Best example I thought was
Quoted from tonyfordsmicrofro
(Insert opposing player/managers name here) 5hits his underpants.

To the tune of Scott and Hurts black and white army.

It heckles the opponent and it it's not too offensive. Would love to hear this sung at BP again.

At Home again, cross the sea.
We are sailing, stormy waters,
To be top of, BSP

Town are flying, Town are flying,
Like a bird cross the sky.
Town are flying, passing high clouds
To be out of, BSP

Can you hear me ? Can you hear me ?
Thro the dark times, you're away !
I am dying, forever trying,
To be with you, who can say.

We are Grimsby ! We are Grimsby !
Thro the dark times, home and away
I am dying, forever trying,
To be with you, who can say.

We are fishing, we are fishing,
Home again cross the sea.
We are fishing, Joey Waters !
To be near you, to be free.

Oh Town to be near you, to be free.
Oh Town to be near you, to be free.
Oh Town to be near you, to be free.
Oh Town.

Clap clap clapclapclap clapclap clapclap
GRIMSBY!!!!

Would love to hear all of BP sing that slow...
But what do you think ?
Improvements ? Changes ?
Too long ? Possibly not if we agree on the words and learn them ?

Also like "beside the seaside" but wonder if a few of the lyrics
e.g.
"With me hatchet in me hand,
Killing yorkies on the sand,"

might be a bit "irrelevant" ?

How about....

Oh I do like to be beside the seaside,
Oh I do like to be beside the sea,
Oh I do like to sing in with the Pon Pon Pon
Where the Towns fan sing Tiddely Om Pom Pom
Oh I do like to be beside the seaside,
Oh I do like to be beside the sea,
When we're down here at BP (or on the clee)
We're beside ouselves with glee
Beside the seaside, beside the sea...

two verses of that would be fine.

We need the "Can you hear me" verse as would get a reaction especially away from home.

I have so wanted to sing this song....lets just sing the original, no one can stuff up the words then  ;D

one thing i must say is I'm impressed with our fans chants. I've been to the past 2 Exeter home games and every 2 out of 3 songs are songs about how much the hate Plymouth. I said to my mate aren't you supposed to be singing songs for your team?

I think we should just sing these 2 verses;

Can you hear me, can you hear me,
Thro the dark night far away.
I am dying, forever trying,
To be with you, who can say.

We are sailing, we are sailing,
Home again cross the sea.
We are sailing stormy waters,
To be near you, to be free.

x2. Or the just last verse;

We are sailing, we are sailing,
Home again cross the sea.
We are sailing stormy waters,
To be near you, to be free.

x3.

Very good 80's we just need to get these in motion which isn't the easiest of things to do.  The Rod Stewart song updated like 80's suggestion would be awesome and would probably give me goose bump if a large % was singing this.

Can you hear me, can you hear,
In the osmand, you're away, (Change osmand to home stands, if we're away from home. and change You're away to you're at home.)
We are grimsby, the mighty Grimsby,
We are winning, at home again. (Change Home again to away again.)

We are Grimsby, we are Grimsby,
Home and away, you will hear us,
We are Grimsby, the mighty Grimsby,
We are winning, once again...

Thoughts on my winning song? LOL. Think 80s is better TBH but the ideas keep getting into my head.  ;D

that's brilliant !  :)

Also like...

"We are sailing, we are sailing,
Home again cross the sea.
We are sailing stormy waters,

Not sure whether others like the "to be free" bit or not though ?
My "BSP" but was a bit stupid tbh, just couldn't think of much else...

Think it would be pretty good if we can get a version of the "we are sailing" song going, even if it's just the 2 verses I mentioned earlia. I might just sing it at a game and see what happens, though I haven't got the best of voices.  ;D

Let's keep working on it here too, we;'re making progress.

Anyone wants to chip in PLEASE PLEASE do !
If the fans aren't happy there's no bloody point even doing it.

With a bit of luck, the lyrics shouldn't change much or be that difficult to learn ?

One idea just occured to me Gary...

You say
"In the osmand, you're away, (Change osmand to home stands, if we're away from home. and change You're away to you're at home.)"

Not sure "In the home stands, you're at home" is gonna rhyme ?

How about "In the home stand, far away"

cos with a bit of luck they should be far away ?

I don't know if there is a particular tune to this, it's a chant and I know it from my dad. Though have never heard it chanted at a town game since I have been going. Think I know how it goes though. Just chant it as it's typed.

I'm a bowed legged chickhen,
I'm knock kneed he-en,
Ain't had me hole since I don't know whe-en,
Walk with a wiggle,
Giggle with a squa-wk,
Dooing tyhe pontoon boot walk...

I'll ask me dad next time I see him.

Go's to this tune

Swap Sailing to Fishing?
So:
'We are fishing, We are fishing'

Just links into our history a bit better and doesnt change the tune/syllables at all.

Yeah was thinking the same.

But tricky call cos will people know the words ?

That said tbh was thinking of a shed load of verses where the words didn't change too much and should be easy to follow.

I don't know how we are fishing would fit in though Brad. I like the idea but it's just a case of how would the rest go.

We are fishing, we are fishing,
In the North sea, far away,
We are sailing, stormy waters,
To be home, to see Grimsby play...

Best I could come with ATM.

Not knocking it but are people gonna remember "To be home, to see Grimsby play..."

I actually wonder if Brad's right about the "fishing" thing too.

This is what I've come up with - a long one but it's pretty similar to the original.
Is it really so difficult to learn or follow ?

Yes could be shorter but then again will fans be able to jump right in with "Can you hear me ?" ?

Anyway what do you think of this ?
---------------------------------------------------------------

We are fishing, we are fishing,
Home again cross the sea.
We are fishing stormy waters,
To be near you, to be free."

Town are flying, Town are flying,

GRIMSBY!!!!

Would help if people learnt the song off by heart in their sleep to start off with.

Bits I question are
-  I am dying". "to be free" and "who can say" but maybe you can't have everything ?!
-  Also wonder if "dark night" could be "dark times" but not sure if that's a bit dodgy too.

Think when one starts with the first bit, Can you hear me? (Then others jump in here), can you hear me? (Or on the next line). It's the same when we do the "sing when we're fish" one. Sing when we're fishing! (then everyone jumps in with...) We only sing when we're fishing. Etc etc.

Yeah see what you're saying Gary, don't doubt you can start it off.
I don't know, just for me it sounds a bit silly to jump straight in halfway through the song but maybe I'm wrong.

Just personally (and it's only me) I would go...

We are fishing, we are fishing,
Home again cross the sea.
We are fishing stormy waters,
To be near you, to be free."

I am flying, I am flying,
Like a bird cross the sky.
I are flying, passing high clouds
To be near you, to be free

Only lines that have changed from the original are in bold.

But like I said, only my opinion.

I do like your version though 80s. It be great if we could get the song going and last til it's finished. But the younger lads are more for modern short and fast beated typ chants and songs. So would be too long and slow for them. But a couple of verses should get them on board, just like "you fill up my senses."

Think unless we get a group together and count quietly 1, 2, 3, then start the song after 3. Then it would have to be a loud mouth like myself to start it with the first line or first couple of lines.

Cheers mate but don't want anyone to learn my long one, even I admit it's a bit of an ordeal to learn all that !
Start small and build up, probably the best way...

One other thing I was gonna say though, you know you said "But the younger lads are more for modern short and fast beated typ chants and songs."

Take your point and they can have them but wouldn't it be great for everyone if we had this a bit similar to "You'll Never Walk Alone" ?

My point is, if you're trying to fill the whole ground with noise, short snappy tunes are always necessarily the best ?

Yeh it would be great. I'm sure if we can get it sorted for a few older lads, like the shufflers in the pontoon to start then others will follow. The young uns, I have realised that just like me a lot of them look up to the older fans (though the older fans don't seem to like it LOL).

Well put that wrong really and kinda stereotyped, sorry.

The shufflers are always alright and good bunch and want us to join them, but there a few other that I have heard say "tell the kids to f*ck off back to the corner" and other comments not much diferent to that. Also heard/read comments on here and else where about "kids." Such as "there are too many 'kids' in the pontoon" and stuff like that. Which is daft because age, looks, etc etc shouldn't even matter because all that should matter is that we support the same club and all want to get behind the lads.

I was just suprised older fans wouldn't like younger ones looking up to them and was just a bit suprised.

Sorry to hear those stories and when I say "kids" or young uns I don't mean to be derogatory or make anyone feel any less valued.

Why do you think they said "tell the kids to f*ck off back to the corner" ?

One or two might of been about seats but think the majority (though when I say majority I've heard it about 4 times in the last league home games only) because of they don't like the noise and joining in. There's a big divide in the pontoon, I don't really know why, but left side above the tunnel (left of the goal facing the osmand) most of the fans there like to be vocal and join but then you only have to go across the stairs and most fans that side (the right side) are sat quiet with the odd one or two clapping and maybe singing/chanting. I didn't realise this though until we had moved to join the shufflers in the middle(ish). Think you would have to see it for yourself really to get an idea of what I mean.

Strange it may be but yep, there are a few in pontoon that don't like the noise, some say it's because of the chants and songs sang but I have noticed that even when they sing old(ish) songs like, Three little birds, Can't help falling in love, and others, they still don't seem to like it. There is a divide between fans, I don't know what exactly know what it is but I have noticed it on here, and at BP. Though away games is completely different, I have no idea why that is either.

I'm getting the feeling gary that its not so much an age thing as a personality thing. I'm a shuffler, older as you would say  :B and we're desperate to up the noise level and reclaim some of the energy the pontoon delivered in "yesteryear" but i'm seeing younger lads and lasses around us not even watching the game sometimes, playing on their phones and heading off for a hotdog with ten minutes of the first half left! Similarly, lots of older ones bitching about which songs are sung and why everythings so shite nowadays, it's bizarre.
My vision is one where the more people get involved, the more it will spread and the happiness will return. People will usually join in if they're surrounded by it, and my opinion is, if you're in the ponny you're there for a reason. To make some noise and do some shuffling! The best thing about the noisy corner coming over to us was removing the divide, all of a sudden there was a larger group and that in itself co-erced (sp) more around us to join in. Lots more of that please pontoon army.

Ultimately, all of blundell park will be singing, it's just a matter of time.  ;D   :D

My simplistic version goes something like this...

We are fishing
We are fishing
Stormy waters
Out to sea

We are fishing
We are fishing
Just to watch you
Play again

We are fishing
Stormy waters
Bring us home (or) Make us proud again
To our Grimsby (or) Our Grimsby

We are fishing
Just to watch you
Bring us home again
Back from sea.

Finish with...    (work in progress / artistic license)

Stormy WATERS
Bonettis corners
Whittles elbow
Livvos nose

Buckleys aces
Shankleys greatest
The Wembley double
Mendoncas goals

We are fishing, we are fishing, we are Grimsby, home again.

Thoughts? simple but effective i'm going for.

Reckon it would sound pretty good once we've got it sorted and fans learn the words.

I thought about the;

intercourse 'em all, intercourse 'em all,
The old, young and the snall,
We are the Grimsby, we are the best,
We are the Grimsby so intercourse all the rest..

Change it to;

intercourse 'em all, intercourse 'em all,
The Lincoln, Scunny and the Hull,
We are the Grimsby and we are the best,
We are the Grimsby so intercourse all the rest..

Must admit I like it when the opposition try to wind us up with "Sing when your fishing you only sing when your fishing."

Then we come back twice as loud with "SING WHEN WERE FISHING WE ONLY SING WHEN WERE FISHING.SING WHEN WERE FISHING WE ONLY SING WHEN WERE FISHING." it goes on for ages and really pissis the opposing fans off, lol
It's like red rag to a bull looks and sounds very impressive especially when we sing it in each stand. Really cranks up the atmosphere. Shitt it's in my head now I can hear all the town lads singing it.

We need a battle cry like in lord of the rings.

"Arise, arise, Riders of Théoden!   change to (Arise, arise MEN OF GRIMSBY)
Fell deeds awake, fire and slaughter!           (We are going up out of this league.)
spear shall be shaken, shield be splintered, (Fists shall be shaken, imps will be slaughtered.)
a sword-day, a red day, ere the sun rises!     (a town day,a black and white day see the MARINERS rise)
Ride now, ride now! Ride to Gondor!"            (attack now, attack now, to glory!)

Fcing hell imagine this new years day against Lincoln, imagine that adapted for us get Rob Scott to bellow it out over the tanoy lol, inspiration or what? the place would go feckin wild.

Don't think the stewards or police would thank us though lol. ;D ;D ;D

yeh, I'd have one. Bit quiet in the corner today only about 10/15 of us was making any noise out of about 30/40 maybe more. Shocking lol. Ah well, won't be at the next FA trophy game saving money for Lincoln, but going to Wrexham at home (ST holder), should be a good 4,000 for that one. UTM.

They had been improving then today was shocking, everyone was saying so, sounded like about 10 people had sticks and were banging it at random was a complete mess sometimes, and what do you mean harder than I think?? I've done percussion in my lifetimes lmao, I know what rythm is, most people have it to some degree, but those drummers are definately the most rythmically challeneged people in the ground. I know theyre trying but they need critisism or they'll never get better, and please do get better, its embarassing.

In my opinion i dont think there actually that bad. I just think the old drummer Gilly was particually good.
At times they need to tone it down but apart from that to be fair i cant grumble

Last home game of 2012 against Wrexham. Thining of starting a new thread but see how it goes on here first.

Will everyone be turning up in santa hats or costumes? I am and I am encouraging others to do he same. Hats only a pound from Pond shops. Think it will be ace with the festive theme. Let's enjoy it and make a lot of noise, let's face we have been able to enjoy going to town games this season so let's show the club that we enjoy it, and long may it continue. Let's have a laugh and create an ace atmosphere. Get into the festive spirit. UTM.

Worth staring a new thread to try and encourage others?

What about the Barry Manilow song:

You know I can't smile without you
I can't smile without you
I can't laugh and I can't sing
I'm finding it hard to do anything
You see I feel sad when you're sad
I feel glad when you're glad
If you only knew what I'm going through
I just can't smile without you
