really enjoyed the match and a good first run out for the lads, quick review of what i thought of the players

colbeck- scored a cracker of a volley, very clinical finisher and attacking minded

cook-great headed goal,he seems he's gunna be our target man from set-pieces,for a big gguy hes got good footwork

pearson-linked up well with cook playing off each other, had a few good efforts on goal

soares-was creative and attack minded in his play was unlucky to score a fantastic goal cleared off the line

thomas-linked up with liam down the left side, puts in a awesome pacey cross, also seems to be 2 footed

niven-undecided gave the ball away for a goal, but broke up the play well infront of the back four and seems a calm tidy footballer, definatley deserves another run out

thanoj-i think he did score nut megging 2 defenders then rifling a shot at goal

southwell-did well to beat his man at the near post to score his goal

hearn-typical liam got his goals always the no1 threat

elding-much the same as last yr putting the effort in all over the park, just needs his finishing polishing up seems to miss 3 score 1 etc

as of the others disley, pearson wood, mckeown, hatton, miller, artus all put a shift in

Well what can i say very impressive although against poor opposition (especially boros 2 keepers). 12 goals against any team is impressive. First half we played 4-4-2. Trainees in goal, at centre back and left back. Hatton and pearson. Coulbeck rt. Soares lt with disley and chalmers in the centre. Pearson and the cookie monster up top.
We played some sharp football 1st half, cook opened the scoring with looping header, colbeck and disley with side footers and coulbeck with bullet finish in off cross bar. Coulbeck completes hat-trick with 25 yard belter. 4-0.
Mistake by trainee full back and 4-1. Deflected shot 4-2.  town make it 5-2 on half time.
Standouts 1st half coulbeck obviously. Cook. And the impressive soares.

Second half. 4-3-3. Mckeown. Wood. Trainee. Miller. Thomas. Thanoj. Niven. Artus. Up top southwell rt side. Elding. Hearn lt side. Mistake at the  back and 5-3. Then town boss it. Hearn hattrick. Elding. artus. O.g. And thanoj make it 12-3 and that wasnt harsh on boro. Could have been double.

Standouts in second half hearn. Thomas. Thanoj and derek niven. Get this guy signed up. Hes what weve missed for seasons. A real yard dog with good positional sense. Looked fit with a good engine and taller than i expected. Won a bit in the air. In contrast chalmers had a quiet game.

Overall a very satisfying workout. Roll on saturday. Hope to see a few more town fans there. You missed a treat tonight. Utm

Coulbecks screamer was the 5th goal on half time. My bad. Sorry guys

If Niven was the second half trialist then he did much better than Chalmers. I really liked the look of him, he got about the pitch well, looks really fit. he won and passed the ball well and got forward when possible. Thomas also was excellent going forward, tricky player and crossed the ball well. Artus and Andy Thanoj were lively and very creative. I also thought Southwell did well. Defence were never under any real pressure. Hatton seems to be more of a footballer than Bradley Wood at right back, he had better control and got forward with purpose. Soares and Greg Pearson look quick and sharp and Andy Cook is a good old fashioned centre forward, strong and keen to get in goal attempts. his headed goal was classic. We must bear in mind the opposition but the town lads looked in good shape and everyone got 45 mins in.

Good game very happy and looking forward to Saturday, I wouldn't sign any the two yet obviously I haven't seen them in training  but I would give. It until at least after Saturdays game. Both had decent games.

Joebeck looks very good addition..they all do to be fair.

Excited for the season now!

I thought Niven Artus and Thanoj worked well in the second half. I wonder when we will start playing a full stregnth team for a whole 90 minutes...

So just a quick question...... Did Hearn score the hat-trick playing wide of a front 3?

It will be a better test on saturday, it was a good run out though and it was nice to see the new signings who all played well. Really impressed with Aswad and Thanoj.

There was a Grimsby Borough I think approx 30 years ago as I worked with one of the guys involved, I don't know if the current set up is anything to do with that club.

So it suggests having better players in the squad does benefit him being out wide

Like a lot of people turned up at 6.10pm to be met by a big queue. No worries, I thought, the club have advertised that there's a bar there that will be open before kick off. Car was parked in an overflow field, and I was more than a little concerned that it might resemble Silverstone at the end of the night.
Got in and purchased 5 programmes, and saw that they'd sold out by 6.46pm, so when one of them goes on ebay later tonight am hoping for a decent return to help with the fuel costs. Went into the bar, only to be advised that they weren't selling alcohol before the game. "**???!!*>!!" The shitey reason was because there were children playing nearby and they didn't want them to be subject to the obscenity of watching responsible adults having a quiet pint before the game. What a load of tosh. It eventually opened at 8pm - while the frigging game was on, FFS, and guess what? The kiddies were still playing outside, and have undoubtedly now been permanently traumatised by being exposed to folk being seen with a glass to their lips.
Said to my good friend who had accompanied me, "we'll leave with 10 minutes to go so we don't get bogged down in the car park" FFS, missed 33% of Town's goals by having done so! Anyway, thoroughly enjoyed the day out, and got a cracking bootful of haddock, smoked haddock, and hake to take back north of the border from Permier Fisheries in Riby Street. Top shop!!!
Whatever happened to Freemo though??????????????

Not really. He was playing a pre-season friendly against a team way below us. No tough tackling etc. He could have had a hat-trick wherever he played.

There was a previous incarnation of Grimsby Borough who were formed in the mid/late 1980s and played in the Central Midlands League. Home games were , at first, played at the King George Stadium. Borough stepped down to the Lincs League for season 89/90, playing at the Littlefields club in Grimsby before disbanding in the early 90s.

I did notice a claim in the programme from last night that this was the first time that Grimsby Town had played in Grimsby.......... they actually played at the Littlefields Club (Grimsby) against Grimsby Amateurs (1988/89) and Grimsby Borough (1989/90).
