Hi all

Will be in Leeds city centre for the game Saturday. Not sure if there is a group of Mariners who will be getting together who I can join, or if not an suggestions of a good pub to watch it from?

Cheers

Live in Leeds but will be in Wrexham on Saturday. In terms of places to watch the match, you’ll want to check ahead that they’re showing it but there are a few good spots in the city centre.

The sports bar at Victoria Gate casino has some massive screens and is usually popular for big games. Then you’ve got BOX on Infirmary Street, a couple of minutes walk from the station. Nice modern place which serves Budvar tank beer.

There’s also a brand new place called Pinnacle Beer & Gin Hall. I’ve not been but heard good things about it; a fair few screens, pool tables and a decent selection of beer. If you’re looking for more of a bog standard pub the there’s also The Griffin just by the station which has loads of screens as well. Plenty of choice.

Hope you have fun!

Unfortunately on holiday in the Dales this Saturday.

I met up with MarinerWY and his brother on Monday but I think they’re planning to travel to GY for the game.

We watched it at the Brudenell Social Club - nice venue, plenty of screens so shouldn’t be a problem getting the match on one of them (I think BT Sports was their default anyway), good beer at decent prices (£3.20 a pint for the hand pull), but a bit of a hike from the city centre so might not be convenient.

As Poojah says, plenty of choice of pubs in the centre and shouldn’t be a problem getting the match on especially at 12.30. Might be worth checking in advance to find a place that’s happy to have the sound on.

One place worth a try is the Wapentake just round the corner from the Corn Exchange - they’ve got a room upstairs which often has footy on.

You’d imagine that place across the road from Belgrave will have it on.

Is that affiliated with the Box in Headingley? Used to live in Leeds years ago and that used to be one of my footy pub/bars. Had no idea they had one in town now if so.

Also if you like a crafty beer PH, make sure you check out the North taproom near the train station. If I've got time to kill in Leeds that's my go to.

Yep, same group. Box in Headingley still there, the one in the city centre opened in about 2018 I think.

Tapped, a couple of minutes walk across from the station, is also good for craft beer. As are the two Head of Steam pubs both close by, the Thornbridge pub Banker’s Cat and and Beer Hawk just a bit further down Boar Lane.

Plenty of places to get you absolutely steaming to celebrate Town’s demolition of Wrexham*.

*Fingers crossed.

Cheers all for suggestions, much appreciated. Seems like Posh comes to town and everyone gets out of Leeds. Fair play, don’t blame you 🙂.

Also out in Headingley late doors, from about 11 onwards I would think, you any tips about places to go there for a beer with the misses (so higher class of establishment needed) would also be helpful.

Who needs google and trip advisor when you have the fishy family!!

It's mad how much Leeds city centre has changed in the last decade or so. That whole Trinity bit wasn't there when I lived there and I had no idea there was a Beer Hawk there and I've never even heard of these Head of Steam pubs, will check them out cheers for the headsup. It's generally changes for the better though as I'm always more impressed whenever I visit.

As above, there’s a BOX in Headingley which is also quite nice; there’s also another Head of Steam which is decent.

The most upmarket, female friendly place though is probably Manahatta. Nice spot if you don’t mind paying £12 for a cocktail.

I moved here in 2006 and the place now is unrecognisable (in a good way). The addition of Trinity and Victoria Gate have made a huge difference, and it’s a really good night out now (not that I get out much these days).

I’d recommend it to anyone who wants to live and work in a major city but doesn’t want to move too far from BP (which is how I ended up here, and not London, in the first place). Cost of living, relatively speaking, not ridiculous either.

A little different to my student days there a bit over 25 years ago when you didn't go into the city centre for a night out due to the risk of getting your head kicked in...

I'm tying to persuade my missus to move up to Todmorden/Hebden Bridge way. Bit more rural but well easy to get into both Leeds and Manchester.

Lovely part of the world. A little prone to flooding though, so worth doing your research if you do make the move.

Yeah, that's very true. It's also horrific to drive around when it's icy. Tod seems to have a decent amount of streets relatively high up so I think that's where we'd initially be looking, but you're absolutely right about to highlight the flooding problem. To be honest getting my Kent born girlfriend to agree to it is probably the bigger stumbling block!

Another Leeds-based Mariner here.

Yes, it's Yorkshire. Dirty Leeds. But if I'm being brutally honest, it's a great place to live.

I can get back to Grimsby, watch the Mariners, see my parents etc by joining the M62. Back within 90 mins easy. City centre is awash with pubs, bars and restaurants. All pretty affordable. The city has had superb investment in my opinion.

Great location - can get to York, Sheffield & Manchester no bother. Dales on your doorstep. Peak District within easy reach too.

Seems there are plenty of Town fans in and around Leeds. Never found the time to understand just how many of us live in the city!

Cas-Vegas! Used to work there. Know the area well.

Always admired how everyone in the town goes to the rugby. Population can't be more than Cleethorpes yet the entire town stops when Cas Tigers play.

Met loads of fantastic town fans in Leeds during my drinki…Sorry uni days - until 2018.

Quite an active group travel from Leeds and the surrounding area every week, great people.

Use to regularly ring pubs up to enquire about watching town, remember watching us beat FGR on a Friday night while Rhinos where playing in the bar above the old bierkeller. About four of us erupted to the bemusement of a pub full of Leeds.

Sleep well Icey, Matty and Richard. Keep each other company up there xx
