Best of Luck to Boston United at the weekend.
Well-run club, with a cracking stadium - be great for a local derby....against Scunthorpe.
Be great in a couple of seasons having 3 Lincolnshire clubs in the league - Grimsby, Lincoln and Boston!

Its not until i read this post that i realised they had a new stadium. Nice work.
Lower league football in this country is something to be 100% embraced. I've lived in many other countries and these kinds of level of support just dont exist at the lower levels elsewhere..

Yes Boston’s new stadium has only been completed a year or so? I think..
Nice stadium with great facilities - albeit a small stadium.
As mentioned to death on here, we could do with a similar set up eventually of out of town with retail and leisure options, but Luton have proven that having an older stadium doesn’t hold back your performances on the pitch!

You had to go and say it didn't you!.... Stand back and get ready for a massive thread on where the stadium should be, 'I hate soulless sheds', 'we should do what X did', 'we shouldn't do what X did', 'we need to stay at BP....', 'it should be on the docks..'

Interesting that both of the candidates for promotion, Boston and York, now play in nice new stadia.
If we don't go up, I'd have to say I'd prefer York to get promoted as it's a nice potential weekend away whereas I don't think you could say the same for Boston!

York have also got a new stadium on the edge of the city, 8,000 seats.
Living in York I would like them to beat Boston. A local derby for me and other local Mariners if York win and we don’t get promoted. Same scenario is a good away day for Town fans.

A regrettable can of worms. Back to Boston United, they have a couple of players I’d take here - that’s another sore point… I do think Macca may end up back with the Pilgrims which if they come up would be a worthwhile signing.

House of Trembling Madness (the old one in Stonegate) is a favourite of mine, though negotiating the stairs down could be a bit tricky after a few beers. I've spent a few afternoons in there on my own as my wife was out going round the shops! BC (Before Children), of course. Lots of more regular pubs as well.

Professor Van-Tam is a high-profile STH for Boston United. Famous for mentioning this during his Covid briefings. Along with his football analogies about penalties etc.
Very ironic and sad that he missed his investiture at the Palace this week and missed Boston's playoff matches. Because he has Covid. Doubt he will see the final live.

Have the finished building Bostons yet? I remember the floodlights fell down when it was windy about a year or so ago.
Worked with a Boston fan, he was most certainly not complimentary about the new ground nor its location…
Either way, whoever comes up means another relatively near away day…

Reffed down there the other day, one end is yet to be built but the rest of it is lovely. We’d need a bigger version though. Location is on the A16 near Wyberton but they are building loads round there. Think if we built ours on a main road near near New Waltham perhaps it’s that sort of thing.

Boston is a nice ground, their floodlight collapsed one Thursday night I think it was in bad winds. Abacus Lighting who supplied it took it back and replaced it. All parties are very lucky nobody was around at the time.
Parking is a bit of an issue when there is a 2k crowd though.
I'm at York v Boston on Saturday, 7500 sell out after 1000 seats were removed from sale after damage fans caused in the Quarter Final.

The Shop is expected to miss the final with a thigh strain. He injured this stretching to score a goal. He has 2 goals in the playoffs. York will miss him.
Interest in the game is high, and is being live-streamed for £10.

Not finished the development yet, the last stand at one end has just started to be built, it's a great stadium for a lower league club and is a credit to their excellent owner. There was only one of the floodlights blown down, not sure if all were replaced or all reinforced. I'm hoping The Pilgrims win on Saturday as I lived in the town for 45 yrs and the first 10yrs only 100 yrds from the York street ground. I do agree though that York would make for a better away day experience. Good luck to both clubs and what will be will be.

Big build up to the match n York today. York have been dire for a few years but still get very good home gates and have a large away following. Great credit to them as there is rugby and many Leeds fans in the city. A club and fans can often by judged by their impressive away following over time.
They are very similar to us and have had the same (poor) owner for some 15 years. Hence 2 relegations to NL - same as us.
The Shop has scored vital goals in the playoffs but is injured. Not expected to play today but you never know. Ironic if he is out as John Lewis store is 200 yards from the ground and has closed.
I think the home fans will get them over the line. John Askey has won promotion in NL. On the other hand York have not beaten Boston for 3 years. One York fan has been to most away games for years. His daughter is getting married today and he will miss the match. He asked her if he could go to the game. The reply is not printable!

The best friend of my then girlfriend, now wife, got married in Pembrokeshire in south west Wales on the 8th May 2010; the day of that Burton game. We drove down on the Friday night, a 7 hour drive, on the assumption that I was doing the right thing in missing one of Town’s biggest games in the club’s history. Around 7am the next morning, I ‘nipped out for a paper’ and returned some 16 hours later. My phone, having been turned off for the duration, had received something like 174 missed calls. Suffice to say the 7 hour drive back home the following day was not fun in the slightest.

Very best of luck to Boston United. It is a really well run club that I spent a number of years working at as a coach, and I enjoyed my time there,
The new ground and training facilities are first class, and have been financed by the nearby out of town development that involves retail, hospitality and housing. David and Neil are good owners that have built a very sustainable business model for the club.
Hope they win today

Come on Boston My nearest 'major' club from home - only 18 miles If GTFC don't go up then it's a 30 min jaunt down there for away game
Stadium is superb - chairman David Newton was great to me when I was sports editor at Boston Standard; top bloke
If York do it then another relatively close away day - win, win!

Good luck to both teams but I do hope Boston win.It will be great for the town as they don't have much to be cheerful about these days.Even the old Gliderdrome is up for sale, had many fantastic nights there back in my younger days, might I add dancing and listening to some great gigs, no not playing bingo .

I can't get my head around this "much better day on the urine",surely we can go on the lash to York any time. Now lets talk about a day out in Boston, one and a half hours gridlocked on the John Adams Way taking in the wonderful views and witnessing the local culture, now that must be a much more enjoyable and educational matchday experience .

John Lewis fit to start. Along with McLaughlin , so another Town link. Old stager Clayton Donaldson also starts for York. Boston sold their 900 tickets allocated and could have sold more. The crowd today could have reached 12,000 if the new ground was bigger. Outstanding support after 5 seasons in National North.

Cool and composed finish from The Shop. Does not even take 10 mins. A man in form, confident and banging in playoff goals. . Would Hurst want him for our games? Wrexham if we get through or have injuries. York’s season is over in about 2 hours.
We could sell him to York for a small fee or used him as a quad player next season.

From the YCFC match report: The Minstermen couldn’t have made a better start at the LNER Community Stadium as they took the lead after only five minutes. A long-throw into the penalty area by Scott Barrow from the left-hand side was controlled excellently inside the penalty area by John-Lewis, he turned and let the ball drop to his feet before unleashing a powerful effort across goal into the bottom-right corner to score his sixth goal in his last seven appearances. The man's a machine and I love him!!!

Stranger things have happened. He's clearly in form and confident.

I was there today, York opened the scoring from a throw in that definitely wasn't theirs and was probably a Boston free kick but it was cool as you like from Lenny.
No booking for the crunching tackle on Lenny. In fact, it was a York throw and I actually thought at the time it was a good challenge. As the game wore on it became clear there would be a second goal, Boston had York penned back on their 18 yard box but York broke, Lenny wrestled for the ball, laid it off to the winger and moved to the centre of the box. Winged scored and it was a party atmosphere.
Lenny was absolutely brilliant up front for York today. Clayton Donaldson who seems to just keep playing showed lots of neat touches as well.

Much as I like Lenny, he's not been training with us for a while and Dieseruvwe and Abrahams have been doing OK, so I don't expect to see him return to the team. Of course, a couple of injuries and all bets are off.

Lennie has scored in each of his last 5 non-league play-off matches. Is it really too far fetched to suggest that he could play a part in our play-off campaign?
He’s in form and has proven he can do it in high-stakes games. I have to say, I wouldn’t be disappointed to see him on the bench in any of our next three games, should our season last that long.

I think Hurst made it clear way back when that Lenny was one of those players, along with Macca that wouldn’t play for us again.
I’ve no issue with Lenny although regardless of this rich vain of form, he’s kinda proved he’s not at the level we need right now…

It's staggering that York finished 28 points behind the champions and still go up

Surely it's a case of Lenny finding his level in the NLN? He was doing well for Hereford before we signed him too remember? I'm glad he's done well and got promoted with York but his performances earlier in the season were so poor they were borderline unforgivable. Manny does a similar job and has banged in 5 in 3 starts and a handful of 10 minute cameos. Considering Clifton is potentially plugging about 4 holes in our matchday squad in the event of a single injury then I don't think having another target man in contention is needed. We've got that adequately covered with Taylor, Abrahams and Manny as all are better options than Lenny.

I think there are aspects of this. York had 38 year old Clayton Donaldson up front too and he was full of neat back heels and using his intelligence. York are full-time in a predominantly part-time league. For players like Lenny and Donaldson that are disciplined professionals, their physical strength probably shines through in a way that it doesn't in our division. The player Lenny set up for the second late on is a 24 year old who came over here as a 2 year old from Afghanistan and gave up on football for 18 months in 2019 after doing his ACL.
