Get in.

Who'd have though it a few weeks ago.

We can relax at Eastleigh now, phew.

At the start of the season I think most of us thought that a play off place would be a great achievement.

It is.

In the summer I thought we would be well below the play offs given the rebuilding job but fair play.

Now for Eastleigh, do we rest anyone ?

I would......

Anyway considering what a shambles we where last season this is a good achievement, hopefully we'll progress. "On our day" we can give anyone a game, we just need 3 "days" now.

Well done Town!!

I would literally be wrapping McAtee in cotton wool now until Notts County away. And before anyone starts, I do mean literally.

I think I'd give Smith a rest and see how Waterfall looks. Smith definitely starts so the decision is between the other two. Sounds like Pearson was outstanding. Holohan might benefit from the rest but got a week and a half until it starts so who knows.Sure it will be calm and rational whatever decision is made.

Fact is that we have beaten Stockport, Notts County, Chesterfield, Dagenham, Torquay and Boreham Wood recently. All in or around the playoffs.

That is not a bad CV to be taking into the playoffs.

Brilliant. Well done to the lads. We could have been even higher but for some disappointing performances against some of the lower teams. For example, Aldershot (a), Barnet (a) and Maidenhead (h).

But now we are in the play-offs anything is possible.  UTM

Top seven a realistic but challenging target for a relegated club. A good achievement and gives us an almlost pressure free go at the play offs when others are arguably more desperate to win them. Let’s enjoy it whatever happens.

Reference the Eastleigh game firstly I would play Macca, after ten years he deserves one last hurrah in between the sticks. As for the remainder of the side anyone who has a knock, slight muscle injury or is a little jaded should have the day off.

The only reservation is that anyone not playing will be over 2 weeks without a competitive game and that can come back to bite you. Anyway pleased we have this problem and it looks like a trip to Notts County is beckoning, two very evenly matched teams so everything to play for.

Great effort, it will be a steal if we finish 6th and get promoted but it would be the perfect crime as far as I am concerned

You never know, Notts County might do a Scunny on Saturday and we finish above them.

A good achievement, but makes me think what might have been had we not gone through that terrible spell. 9 defeats from 12 games was just awful and we didn't deserve to lose most of them. Even an average run of form during that period would have seen us up challenging for automatic promotion.

Oh well, there are always 'what ifs' to deal with and the season isn't over yet...

Couldn’t make it tonight due to unexpected work commitments; one of the few home games I’ve missed this season, but I’m going to take a moment to reflect with a celebratory beer this evening.

Celebrate what exactly? For a start, the return of my club. It was impossible not to feel distanced from things last season, but in truth much of that feeling was there long before the pandemic. I’ve enjoyed this season; whatever happens, the GTFC I love is back.

If that’s a bit sentimental, I genuinely think a play-off finish this season is something to celebrate in itself. Start of the season, I didn’t think we’d do it. Too much disarray. Too much to do in shaping a competitive squad. Too much money elsewhere in this league.

Even looking back, I don’t think that was unfair. We were in disarray a year ago. There was shít loads to do. And there was, and is, more money in this league than ever before. To finish at least 7th this season is a massive achievement in its own right. The management, the staff the players - all 67 of them, deserve huge credit. The fact the squad has been in almost constant evolution makes the feat all the more remarkable.

What’s lies in store for us now? Looks like Notts County, in all probability. Then it would be Wrexham if we could jump that hurdle. After that, who knows?

Honestly, am I confident we can go all the way? Looking at it objectively, it’s a big, big ask. But it’s the play-offs; the notoriously unpredictable play-offs. I’d all but given up after that home leg against Braintree in 2016. I would never have predicted what followed.

Even if it’s heartbreak, fúck it, so what? I didn’t think we’d be here. This is a bonus. If it ends badly, it needn’t end in tears. We’ll be in great shape for an assault on this division next season if we have to go again. Heartbreak was a catalyst in 2015, and it can be again if push comes to shove.

What will be. We might not do it. You never know, we might. But either way, let’s just try to enjoy it. Get those away ends bouncing.

This was the first season of the transition from the Fenty-era into something better. Whatever happens, this season has already been a massive success. Our highest average attendance outside the second tier in over 30 years is testament to that. Well done everyone, and I include the fans in that.

Great achievement whatever happens in the next 2, 3 or hopefully 4 games.

PH has done a good job getting us into the play offs considering the squad he inherited and the gloom around the club after relegation.

Another 6000 crowd tonight, so progress on and off the pitch it seems.

For me personally, this was the definition of a successful season at this level. Its entirely a lottery now, we've bought our ticket, let's cross everything and put our faith in the lads to do the best they can.

Well done Hurst and the team!

Fantastic achievement to turn round that terrible run and get to this point with a game to spare; I think we were all sold a bit of a dummy with the start we had to the season. With hindsight it was never going to last, we had had a third of team made up of u23 loans with the squad burdened by excess baggage from the previous regime. PH has done a great job in rebuilding in the second half of the season with three standout wins against other top 7 sides. Promotion from here is a massive ask given what we are up against but I'm going with the Martin Johnson philosphy from the rugby world cup - make sure you are in the game with15 mins to go, others might not handle the pressure. Well we are still in the game and the big pressure is on a couple of the other teams at this point - let's see how they handle it...

Just had a look on the Chesterfield forum and the level of delusion is laughable.

According to them, 7th is better than 6th as they get to play Halifax and Solihull, who they refer to as Birmingham Airport Overspill Car ark FC and they say that neither team has any fans, so their team won't be intimidated at either venue.

One poster even mentioned starting a Solihull score prediction thread and he went with 3-0 to Chesterfield with a Quigley hat trick. He never mentioned the fact that they had to get past Halifax first.

Have they seen the league table and their recent form guide?

I'd rather we not play either of them as our record against them has been quite crap. We actually played much better against the other teams in the playoffs so I'd fancy them more.

Chesterfield are weird, I’m sure those deluded fans are in the few but it’s still odd. They’ve essentially limped through the season season the front man got injured. I get it, teams miss their best players but they look shite.

Any half sensible person would realise that Solihull and Halifax are probably the teams you want to avoid. Fans mean nothing, I know some on here have an obsession with how many we take to games etc but in truth it does mean intercourse all. I get the whole creating an atmosphere thing but Solihull and Halifax have literally been hanging around 3rd/4th all season…neither seem to lose games…

Its been a brilliant season all round both on and off the pitch - one of them seasons that you dont really want to end - and how often have we said that over the last 10/15/20 years?!

Could Chesterfield even miss out on 7th still?

A defeat to Woking and a Dagenham win v Wrexham ?!

Talking about our game(s) into the play offs, is David Longe-King back in the fold, and available again once Woking have played on Sunday?

Main season over - loan spell complete, still our contracted player?

Not wanting any injuries or further suspensions, but an extra defender body available would be useful to have on board, and he has been playing for them.

Not sure how the loan works with play offs in place.

Don’t think many chesterfield fans are remotely delusional. They know they’re limping into the play offs at best, they’re split on Paul Cook although a significant number want him gone
If you look at the forum regularly you’ll note that they know they’ve been appalling since Tshimanga got injured

It's sad I know but I keep a regular eye out on our rivals via their forums and I think it was just their way of putting a brave face on them likely finishing 7th.

The Chesterfield forum is usually pretty fair and realistic but if they get into the playoffs they have as much chance as us of winning them as it is very much a lottery.

On Twitter the other day the highlights of the Gateshead semi final came up. In the home leg we should have been out of sight but the second leg was a freak event - Macca letting a shot go through his hands, 2 sending offs etc. so anything can and does happen in pressure matches.

Great achievement in my opinion. Think of the mess Holloway got us into and where we are now. I've really enjoyed being back in the conference in a way. It's more fun being a big team in the conference than whipping boys in league 2.

Given the regime change, I think we'd be better placed to be a big team League 2 next season if we got promoted. We'd have one of the top five average attendances, and I think that would correspond to something similar in terms of budgets, we'd have one of the biggest away followings still in that league. I'd rather be taking similarly massive away followings to Northampton, Rochdale, Bradford and Hartlepool than Boreham Wood and Altrincham. I think we'd be better to capitalise on the momentum, give Hursty a proper budget and really go for it next season. We could shift 4-4.5k ST if we got promoted I reckon, even though JS certainly intimated in his interview on RH last night that ST prices will be increasing.

Having said that, I think we'll do spectacularly well to reach the final let alone get promoted, especially given Efete and Scannell are now unavailable to us. Think that will really harm us as an attacking threat. We'll need a lot to go our way, refereeing decisions, defensive errors from the opposition, keeping the remaining key players fit, us not making any errors and taking lots of chances (something we've struggled with practically all season).

I'm going to be cheering Torquay tonight and then Halifax on Saturday because, if we can get passed Notts County, I wouldn't mind playing Stockport on the Saturday, who will have not played for a fortnight, be low on confidence after a poor run and low on morale having blown such a big lead with 6-7 games to go. We'd probably lose but we're more likely to lose to Wrexham!

Yes, and sickening to see the two red carded players high fiveing each other in the dressing room. Showed how little they cared about the club. Not sure either of them played for us again.

Stockport drawing with Torquay 0-0 at half-time. A point would leave things in their hands on Sunday, but they’ll be in for a nervy afternoon in that case given they’ll face a Halifax side desperate for a result in order to steal back 3rd place and avoid a play-off quarter final.

After 30 minutes on Good Friday I’d have been mightily concerned about the prospect of facing them in the play-offs, but their swagger seems to have disappeared with Sarcevic’s red card at BP. On balance, I think I’d rather face them than Wrexham as things stand; should we get that far of course.

I just listened to the last 10 minutes of the first half (I do realise how sad that is). Stockport battered Torquay but can't find a goal

If you’re interested in some pointless trivia, the goalkeeper coming off the bench for Torquay is Mark Halstead. He’s the lad that came off the bench for Shrewsbury after Conor Townsend murdered their ‘keeper in the 0-0 FA Cup game at BP during our promotion season.

I’m having that as an omen.

This. Plus Palmer would be nailed on to score.

Not as easy as it sounds. Of all the teams I’d want to play under the circumstances of both sides, Halifax would be bottom of the list. Realistically, they need a win as much as Stockport need a draw.

Going to be a very interesting final day.

Looking at the fixtures I’m even more pleased we confirmed our place in the play offs last night. There is a lot riding on the games at Dagenham, Chesterfield and Stockport. Our finishing position isn’t certain just yet (although highly unlikely we’ll move from 6th).

I don't really feel like "highly unlikely" reflects rhe situation. Would only take a 1-0 defeat for us and a 3-0 win for Chesterfield against a Woking side who, although only 1 point worse off away from home than us, havie nothing to play for collectively. I'd put it at 25% chance if we put out a much weakened side

There are nine scenarios in terms of result combinations, and only one can result in us dropping from 6th place, and even that requires a 4 goal GD swing. In probability terms we’re talking somewhere between a 5% and 12% of us finishing 7th. It’s pretty remote.

Honestly don't care a jot whether we finish 6th or 7th, I'm pleased we made the play offs. We're going to have 3 tough games away from Blundell Park so bring them on in any order.
Think PH will rest virtually all of his first choice starting line up on Sunday because trying to finish 5th will be very tough, take a lot out of them and probably be futile
Guessing Solihull and Halifax will be going for it on Sunday so whichever of them misses out might be a better destination?

In regular season games, absolutely. But if we put out a reserve team, as in resting all of the starting 11 from BW, bringing in a couple of yoofs, we're most likely going to lose, Chesterfield are most likely going to win. I'd honestly put that scenario as low as evens .A 4 goal swing in that event I'd also put at evens. I don't think Hurst will look to do that though. I think the bench will all likely come in plus probably Max. I think Fox will keep his place as he's only a few games back from a lay off. At least 5 changes I would say.

There's already a minimum 10 day gap between our final league game and the play-off quarter final. Anyone who doesn't play on Sunday will have gone over 2 weeks without a game; I'm not sure how advantageous that will be in most cases.

I suspect we might see some sensible decisions made in terms of resting certain players; McAtee most likely getting a light run out off the bench, and perhaps a start for the likes of Max Wright who's not had much game time but may be needed in the play-offs, but I don't think we'll see anything resembling a reserve side fielded against Eastleigh.

Edit: I've just seen the dates have been moved forward a couple of days, but the point in general still stands.

Halifax still with a chance of finishing 3rd so I'm sure they'll be going all out for the win on Sunday.

Well, whatever happens in the play offs, it's clear that there is a new vibe at the club, a totally different trajectory from the constant doom and gloom, crass amateurism, counterproductive penny pinching, false economies, and embarrassing gaffs under the previous regime.

We once again have a club we can get behind, a club we can be proud of, win draw or lose. For the first time in years we can look forward to the future.

We have got our club back.

I agree although I’m still miffed about the POTY thing on the pitch in what was a relatively important game.

I’ll take anyone in the playoffs. I don’t think we’ll see a full reserve side on Sunday given the length of gap between the games but possibly, as has already been said, some sensible changes, Mcatee/Taylor perhaps drop out, May be slot Wright in, drop Clifton, May be Amos…

I would certainly rest Cropper. We have only one right back. Try someone there, not Smith, in case Cropper gets injured at some point.

I get your thinking but who would you put there? We are light on fit and regularly available wingers now Scannell is injured if you put Clifton there. Could Jones or Crookes do a job at RB?

I think Fox could do a decent job at RB but there is no way I want him being taken out of central midfield.

We don't have ‘reserves’. I think Crookes, Wright, Sousa, JMD, Beast, Burgess, Jones, Abrahams will all feature or start.

Will Macca?
