I see Belper have signed a new keeper and we've recalled Ollie Battersby although he's credited as a big reason for their good league position.

I wonder if we have another loan lined up for him, Crocombe/McKeown are injured/leaving or we don't want him playing second fiddle at Belper.

The daft rumours about Mckeown gain momentum, so maybe he’s offski? Battersby in as his backup?

I really don’t know what to think anymore.

I do hope that Battersby makes the grade, though.

It would be great if Battersby could go on to be our long-term number one, especially as he's truly one of our own.

I've seen some nonsense posted about McKeown but there has been every time he's not played a game or two so I tend not to believe any of it.

I agree with your reading of the article. The Belper manager couldn’t have been more effusive in his praise for Battersby. It sounds as though he’s reached the next stage in his development, and may soon become a serious candidate for the number one spot at Grimsby.

What are the rumors about Macca then?

It would be great to see Battersby break into the team. I remember Hurst being complimentary about his form and fitness at the start of preseason but said he needed experience playing matches. Well he has some now, and obviously did a great job at a lower level. Question is can he do it at a higher level- like all young players the only way to find out is to give them a chance.

I don't for one second think the owners would ever interfere with team selection, but it wouldn't surprise me if Hurst has an objective or bonus for young players breaking into the team. Andrew mentioned it again in the podcast about their aspirations for young local talent like Max and Harry to make it into the team and importantly stay with the club at a young age, rather than being hoovered up by bigger clubs.

If that's their ambition, then they have the exact wrong manager for the job.

However, it did get me thinking about his testimonial season. Has there ever been a player that has left a club part way through his testimonial season? What happens with any forthcoming events? Does he just come back to attend them?

He signed in 2011 and had his testimonial against Rotherham in July just gone.

Yeah I know but there are often more than just the one event. I am sure I saw something recently about an evening event at McMenemy's, yet to be staged.

I could be wrong though.
