I thought Hunt was excellent today and is a real talent .Did anyone take from Hursts interview that he may not ask for an extension on his loan .JT did ask him a couple of times but he never said yes he would be staying ,even though the Sheff Wed manager says he would like him to

Obviously we will have to wait and see, but with a reference on another post that Hurst might now prefer his own players to loans, I notice on the Sheffield Star article that Alex Hunt's contract runs out at the end of the season. They have however renewed Ryan Galvin's contract for another year, who is on loan to Gloucester City, where the Wednesday manager would also like him to stay. .

Hurst commented that "there's more to it than that" too. We all know Hurst keeps his cards close to his chest anyway but there is a lot more. Like you say Hunt is in the last 6 months of his contract and we don't know if Wednesday want to keep him. If they do then they want him playing no doubt which is happening here but if they aren't too bothered then any bids received this month will be tempting.

Unsure how realistic it is but it would be a great bit of business if we could get him permanently as I think he can command a decent fee in the future.

Listening to the interview I interpreted it more that Hurst wants to freshen things up in the midfield a bit and the ability, or inability, to move overs on may be the main factor in if we look to keep Hunt or not.

Clifton and Fox are pretty much mainstays in Hurst's eyes I think, Coke coming in as and when needed.  I'd say it's Coke who's the one he may look to move on.  Whilst I'm a fan of Coke, I don't think there's a massive role for him to play in a side that should be aiming for promotion.  The occasions when we're needing someone to come in and protect the back four should be very limited, I think we saw yesterday the difference that Hunt will offer compared to Coke.  Even though Hunt naturally sits deep, like Coke, he has more attacking intent and moves the ball on much quicker and with purpose.  Of course, what Coke does offer instead of Hunt is that extra protection and physical presence.  

That said, even with another central midfielder potentially coming in, if we discount Spokes (who has fallen well off the radar), that's only really 5 covering the central midfield slots.  Where we are quite heavy on numbers is wide areas.  Maguire-Drew, Wright, Grant, Scannell, Sousa, Bapaga plus you can add Clifton to that and if McAtee plays he either occupies an inverted wide role or one of those central berths, but further forward.  Perhaps Hurst is looking to offload some of those wide players to bring in a central player in addition to Hunt?  I seem to think he did nod to the fact that we're well stocked in wide areas.  Problem is that 3 of the wingers listed are injury prone, one is out of favour and the other is unpredictable to say the least.

From what I've heard that was Hunts last game for us yesterday, hope that is proven wrong...

Was it Hunt that won the ball back immediately before our equaliser? That was a cracking piece of work.

As for Hunt and reading between the lines from Hurst interview, I'm thinking Hunt may want to move to a league team, he's in a position where he really needs to be in the shop window at a higher level, either to gain another contract with Wednesday or a  permanent move to another EFL club.

We got better once Hunt came on - maybe a cheeky early bid as a permanent player, rather than using up a loan place.

If yesterday is anything to go by then JMD will be taking set pieces from now on, he was on everything yesterday, and did a decent job too. With regards to Hunt I really hope we keep him, permanent or at least until the end of the season. He's young and his dip in form coincided with pretty much everyone in the team so no resentments there from me. If he was performing at his best every game he would be nowhere near the national league because his talent is championship level IMO

Latest is apparently talks are happening. Player has a lot of interest so probably depends if he intends to sign a new deal with Sheffield or he wants to go so they'll have to cash in. Apparently things have been made complicated by the interest in him and the uncertainty of a new deal, might even explain why he seemed off his game in recent times.

I guess a decision will be one way or the other in the new few days. Hurst also for his part has his own plans and needs to make a decision on who we need to keep and who we need to get rid of to bring in new faces. I'll assume he doesn't really want people with us who are just there or stockpile loan players.

I would be disappointed to lose him. Not seen him as often as some, but what I’ve seen is someone who wants the ball, wants to move it forward and wants to do it quickly. When it doesn’t come off it does potentially leave us exposed, but if we had a good stopper next to him I think he is worth that risk. Most of the attacking play in the second half came through him and it resulted in some really good football at a pace and that’s what put Halifax on the back foot on a regular basis.

As for the stopper, sorry, but Coke is not it. Too slow, too cumbersome. Every time he has the ball I think someone is going to win it off him. Potentially either fox or Clifton could do that role. Using fox deeper would keep him far enough away from the goal to stop him trying to shoot. He had a shocker in front of goal the other day!!

We need a central midfielder who can do the Coke role substantially better than Coke.

Wouldn't be surprised if Hurst is lining up a permanent deal for Jon Nolan. The gaffer said something about not wanting to stockpile players when asked about Hunt so to me that's a centre mid incoming this month.

He’s not played for a year, not sure Hurst will be too keen to have another chronic on the books with Scannell, Grant, Coke, John-Lewis and Wright usually in the treatment room.

Wednesday boss Darren Moore wants Hunt to stay at Grimsby, according to an interview in the Sheffield Star, so i guess its up to Hurst whether he wants to keep him.

Hurst said categorically that was false, he acknowledged the fact that he'd worked with Brandon in the past and said that's probably where the rumour has come from but stated he certainly hasn't been enquiring about him or met with him etc.

I like the idea of Nolan, I appreciate he hasn't played for a while but I'm sure that was the case, plus a bad rep, when he came the first time? Hurst certainly got the best out of him then and all but turned his life around.

Agreed, Fox does appear to like a speculative shot from distance but his range finder is a little wayward. I like him as a player and have no problem with players having a pop when they see the chance but his shots v shots on target ratio must be pretty low - a quiet word in his shell like or extra time on the training ground to hit the bloody target wouldn't go amiss.

Playing for SW under 23s today!...looks like he's gone back.
