Eight changes in total from the side that lost at Stockport County.

Grimsby Town: Crocombe; Efete, Waterfall, Pearson, Crookes; Fox, Coke, Clifton; Maguire-Drew, Sousa, Taylor.

Substitutes: Longe-King, Revan, Hunt, Bell, Wright.

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

I really can’t for the life of me understand why Bapaga doesn’t make the bench at least.

Looks a relatively decent line-up though, although Coke in midfield always concerns me

Pleased Soussa is back, just hope Taylor not left on his own up front, a bit worried about defence if Halifax break away, as Waterfall,Pearson and Crookes are not the fastest, but doesnt look too bad a team to put out, and a strong subs bench too. Heres hoping, an early goal would give us some confidence as long as we dont sit back.

Pleased to see Erico back, his pace frightens teams. Even though his final ball needs work I think he adds value to the side

Yeah was thinking the same about Bapaga. Versatile too so surprised doubly that he doesn’t make it. Perhaps injured or ill. No room for Lennie, Scannel, Grant I note.

Funny game, football. I have a feeling, deep in my urinary tract, that we win this today. Late on.

One up front at home when low on confidence, fairly standard Hurst approach I’d say. Haven’t seen Bell play, but 442 with Bell and Taylor up top would feel more ambitious.

Oh yeah course.

Got a horrible feeling we are about to get a tonking. Probably understandable given the contrast in our form and theirs. Come on Town.

It will be a hard game today but a 2 - 1 win will do us good and move up to the play off places.

We’ve got a new badge and website. What is your problem?

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

Interesting interview with Hurst on BT. Apparently we’ve barely trained together since early December and, by his own admission, he doesn’t know which way it will go today regards performance and fitness. Here’s hoping!

Looking second best in midfield thus far, and disappointed with the number of ‘second balls’ we are failing to win. They are passing it much better than us.

To be honest there's not much difference between these two sides - confidence is the big thing. Commentator also says they've had a settled side which makes a massive difference

Stockwood was on Humberside earlier strongly refuting suggestions from some supporters that the players "don't care". I'm not sure they're as wrong as he thinks, considering how flat footed and lazy we look and how many second balls Halifax are easily winning today.

Halifax look like a side used to playing with each other with some confidence. We've suffered quite a bit from chopping and changing and don't get a rhythm together. Couple of individually good moments but we haven't quite threatened as a team yet.

Feels very much like the Notts County and Chesterfield games so far. We look solid enough and are having some decent spells of possession without looking massively like scoring.

Hopefully this one ends more favourably. We need that goal.

Fingers crossed.  I think we are just not sharp enough in front of goal.  That extra touch or second to think about shooting and it's too late.

That’s the difference for me. I think back to some of the goals we were scoring earlier in the season and they were all about movement. The third away at Altrincham was magnificent.

We’re the better team at the minute but just lacking that quality in the final third.

He's a good player, lots of talent which is why he's had attention from much bigger clubs. Just needs to find that end product and have the confidence to make something happen from those good positions. He keeps the ball so well.

That’s the difference for me. I think back to some of the goals we were scoring earlier in the season and they were all about movement. The third away at Altrincham was magnificent.

We’re the better team at the minute but just lacking that quality in the final third.

Numerous ‘nearly moments’ in the past 10-15 mins. As you (and others) have said, lack of movement, confidence, sharpness in the final third at the moment plus a lack of lucky bounce.

The Town fan in me fears a Halifax goal against the run of play (as Waters breaks through…).

Some harsh comments. Efforts there, crowds a wee bit flat. Refs weak.  neither side testing the keeper yet

Don't like to see a player go off injured, but this could be Hunts type of game, lots of space and ball being passed on the deck by both teams.

Another situation where they got a free kick when we got the ball.   I think our players are too honest. Taylor could have gone down but he stayed strong. I don't like playing that way but ...

Fox looks off the pace to me and it’s telling. He’s a good player in my opinion. Coke’s injury looks nasty but could be a blessing in disguise getting Hunt on the pitch.

They just showed a quick clip of Coke's leg - 2 long gouges from studs and it wouldn't surprise me if he was unavailable next game as that heals. Looked like an accident, however.

Started watching after 15 minutes, managing to distract my 3 year old (she's only complained about football being boring a couple of times) and I think we've done OK without quite managing to get the final shot in. Need the ball to drop for us, I think, especially as you'd expect us to wilt a bit in the second half.

Finished the half looking like the team we was earlier in the season, lots of energy and pressure. That's been the frustrating thing, we know they can play like that but in recent games they looked like they've given up. It's really up to the team to show they are still capable of producing that form.

Best half I've seen for ages.

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Good first half and even Steven’s.

Halifax started strong but we grew into the game, and finished the stronger in a game that has had few chances.

If we can have more of the same with a bit more end product, we could win this. Fingers crossed

Crowd are at bit subdued and maybe they are understandably a bit nervous given recent form

Good half overall and on top without creating anything clear cut apart from Fox’s chance, and he should’ve done better.

Finished strong.

Maguire-Drew looks like hes suffering from a bit of post covid, but his crosses have been good.
Sousa is Sousa,  tricky quick causing problems just no end product unfortunately.
Waterfall playing his best again, the way he hunted Waters down when he got away was fantastic.
Fox the same are Maguire -Drew I think he's feeling a bit of that post covid drain but some of his passes have been fantastic.
Hunt coming on really seemed to light a fire under us and we really started to look dominant.

Look like Hurst has finally realised again a high press and attacking with more then 1 player is more effective then defending the 6 yard box with 10 and attacking with only 1 player.

I don't mind Roy Keane making £60,000 a week. I was making the same when I was playing. The only difference was I was printing my own - Mickey Thomas

The area you are trying to protect at corners is the goal - Chris Kamara

On balance you’ve got to be reasonably pleased with that first half. Best half I’ve seen from us for some time.

If there’s a criticism, it’s that we’re not creating nailed on chances and aren’t doing enough with the myriad of half chances we’ve created.

Big test will come in the second half. How will Town hold up physically, and how will Halifax come out of the blocks. I think they’ll change things during the break.

I’m a bit worried this is following the blueprint of the Chesterfield and Notts Co. games.
We’re playing the better football without threatening the goal.
Hope I’m wrong

If anything Halifax are good at conning the ref by falling over and the ref wants to give them everything.

How do they keep lumping it up to their lone striker in acres of space behind our defence?

Waters was free again on the halfway line for the goal. Not sure if he’s coming from an offside position, back on, and timing it well.

Crocombe copulated that up. Should have been an easy parry away. Made a hash of a straightforward free kick too.

Awful goalkeeping. He's played his last game

Christ you all wanted him sacked a few months ago. 6th place finish and he's now the messiah and can do no wrong
Update:  I think I've got this right - He was the messiah. He then wasn't. He then was again. Then it turned out he actually wasnt. He turned into one big huge messiah again. Now he's not actually the messiah we thought he was . Now I'm hoping he rises again quickly

Our keeper, two things to do all game, freekick almost copulated up, the goal should have done a lot better

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Only reason we are playing this keeper is because the fans have an obsessive hatred for Macca

He's crap and definitely not worth being a first choice keeper, even the commentators are confused why we still play him after letting in 8 in 3 games. Blame yourselves because you can't stop whinging about Macca and blaming him for every goal.

Pearson had a clutch of shirt but once Pearson was goal side and there’s contact, it has to be a pen.

Sousa has to be stronger there but if you put two hands in someone’s back in that position, and then shove (relatively gently admittedly), it has to be a pen, again!

As much as I like Harry I would bring him off put Sousa out there and bring on Bell to play up with Taylor.
May be to positive for Hurst thilough.

How can he be stronger there? Hes shoved in the back when he's midair?

The contact was minimal but it did put him off and should have been a penalty.

But when the goal is gaping and you just have to touch it in, you have to try to be stronger. Or make sure you do enough to get the penalty.

Hurst is the most negative intercourse wit ever.

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Hurst can be negative / cautious.

But on this occasion we have continued to play well since conceding so no need to completely change the system too early.

Funny game, football. I have a feeling, deep in my urinary tract, that we win this today. Late on.

We’ll soon see.

Close enough. Under the circumstances I’ll take that.

Could be a season-changing goal. Certainly on the balance of play, thoroughly deserved.

I would have taken a draw at the beginning of the game.  Now, I'm drunk off.  Still lots of positives.  The heads didn't go down, and they placed some lovely footie.  Final shot a tad to long to let go of the trigger.  Effort from the side was amazing.

Apart from a little bit of quality in their penalty box and an aberration from Crocombe, cannot fault that at all today. Great performance from the lads, deserved 3 points every day of the week and twice on Sundays

Really wish Max Wright didn't have legs made out of biscuits. We'd be so much better off if he could keep himself fit consistently.

I thought we looked a lot more like the team from the start of the season. Unlucky to only get a draw.

No! None of it was true, none of those things we thought we could see existed at all.
All that was really there was still more misery

Thoroughly deserved and really pleased for the players, they needed that. Haven’t celebrated goal
so much all season.

As someone said earlier, Sousa is so important to us in pinning teams back. Hopefully the start of a run of some sorts.

Started to play a lot better when Hunt came on although Coke was playing one of his better games. We need somebody with a bit of beef in the middle of the forward line who can throw his weight about. The majority played well and everyone gave their all. Shite ref.

Stockwood was on Humberside earlier strongly refuting suggestions from some supporters that the players "don't care". I'm not sure they're as wrong as he thinks, considering how flat footed and lazy we look and how many second balls Halifax are easily winning today.

Have you anything to add to this crazy comment now the 90 mins are up ?

Hurst can be negative / cautious.

But on this occasion we have continued to play well since conceding so no need to completely change the system too early.

Still needed Bell in there with Taylor for more than three minutes ffs

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Halifax fan here who was at the game. That goal was the least you deserved. Can tell you just don’t have much luck at the moment. We were a bit unbalanced today within our back line and I think it messed up with our style of play today. You should be up there after todays performance.

We are happy to take two draws from yourselves and chesterfield away. But to be winning both games with 90mins almost up in both games is a bit of a sickener.

Hope that performance for you brings a load of fans over for the away fixture.

Ring rusty first 10, then fully deserved  3 pts. Keep that up and add the right goal scoring game changers, we won't be far away.

I agree that Hurst often changes the system or makes substitutions too late.

However, on this occasion, we were dominating possession, territory and were still creating chances. There was no need to change the system until the (very) latter stages as we were still playing well.

Many on here wanted Bell on for Fox with over 30 mins left, against the team second in the league. Fine if we were 2-0 down or playing poorly but an early sub and change in system could have damaged momentum.

Match stats according to Sports Mole. Felt even more one-sided than that, but if accurate it’s the shots on target stat that needs work.

If nothing else it reaffirms that a defeat would have been a travesty; especially given that two of their shots were in the same move that led to their goal. Do we not train keepers to palm the ball sideways?

There’s only one stat that matters:

Unrequired comedy stepovers:
Grimsby (Pearson ‘83) 1-0 Halifax

I take 'umber bridge at the assertion that it was unrequired, element of surprise and all that. Remember him doing similat against Plymouth whilst on a marauding run before getting in a quality cross with his left foot. Lovely stuff.

Great performance, shame the ref was so inconsistent, i mean, Shaun Pearson ought to go into the Halifax dressing room and give the defender his shirt as he's been wanting his shirt all game at set pieces.

Maybe we should really be congratulating the Halifax defender as he obviously knows how far to push the rules and get away with it, how many people on here keep saying we need to be more street wise.

Would Macca have caught that? Probably

Nope, I have seen him do exactly the same thing several times.  I don't know what's wrong with keepers these days, they always want to palm the ball away.  CATCH THE DAMN BALL!!
