Only valuable if provenance is in place IMO. Looked at it earlier and without something firmer in place to prove it was from that game it is just an "old shirt". Given the age I doubt any true provenance could be provided so down to the individual to make the choice.
If corroborated it should be in our club trophy cabinet.

Great find this. Would have loved this, my grandparents were at the game and my grandad often used to tell me about that day. They were only a young couple at the time, and he got conscripted to fight in WWII only a few months later, which always makes me sad thinking about it.
Had a fanciful (and grossly optimistic) stab at a grand, but unsurprisingly that didn’t meet the reserve. Not even going to think about going higher than that as my wife would literally cut my nob off if she found out.

Do what I did recently and return to the bidding after necking a load of alcohol and then hide your purchase at work where it will be safe until you think it’s safe to tell the mrs .

Just think about the history (am presuming it is authentic) that this has with the club. Am sure there are a few town supporters that have a spare couple of grand, but, what an amazing bit of PR work this could be for the club. Am not saying they should just go out and blow upwards of £2/3k on it (that’s their choice), but putting into context the amount we’ve spunked on , not even, benchwarmers, over the past couple of years. It’s spare change

This is exactly the strategy I’ve employed in the past, and the very reason she’ll cut my nob off if she found out.

Some confusion on this thread . 1939 is what the eBay ad says which is the Old Trafford semi final. 1935 was the other one. I would be interested in this but as stated provenance is key. I have watched the video of the 1939 highlights on you tube and it appears to me the players are wearing short sleeves though the pictures are not entirely clear .The shirt photo as advertised on eBay appears to be long sleeved.Does anybody agree or disagree?

Sorry to be pedantic but the other semi final was in 1936. Arsenal v Grimsby Town 1-0 FA Cup Semi-final 21 Mar 1936. https://youtu.be/ELII5ZPCsrY?t=8

I did think the same on first glance but on the match pic shown on the ebay ad he might just have his shirt sleeves rolled up to the elbow, but yeah not clear at all.

In the Pathetic highlight video on you tube it looks like all the players had short sleeves or sleeves rolled up which makes me doubtful .

Short sleeved shirts didn't become common until the 1950's. If you look at pictures of various teams in the 1930s (including Town) they all have long sleeves but the majority of players rolled the sleeves up. Sometimes they're rolled up inside the sleeve giving the appearance of a short-sleeved shirt.

Incidentally, I came across this video a little while ago. Colourised footage of a game between Great Britain and Denmark at the 1912 Olympics, some 109 years ago and a couple of years before the First World War. Sometimes, when you watch old footage on Pathe, it appears as if the matches bare little resemblance to the game we play today. But with the addition of colour and an adjusted frame rate, it just seems so much more recognisable as football. Maybe just me, but I found it mildly interesting. https://youtu.be/Zu7ulGcgtaQThe ground in the video is still recognisable today. After studying some screenshots of the Pathe video there is one shot of our number 10 in our goalmouth where one sleeve is long so I go along with they all rolled their sleeves up theory. Stripe pattern also matches while team photos for other years in 1930’s don’t so anything to suggest it is not genuine

The club already have some old framed shirts on display in the newly refurbished boardroom. Particularly a set of home International ones.
This shirt would look good in there among those.

Are there any photos kicking around of the new boardroom? I've only seen photos pre-refurb (if you look closely, you can see the tie once famously 'waggled' by our glorious former leader in that very room, hanging proudly on the wall).

I love to see the packed crowds in our 1936 FAC semi- final. Even typing that is special.
There are are number of fans breaking into the ground with a 12 foot ladder! Can you imagine getting ready to go to a match today? Phone, wallet, beer money, car keys, match ticket and..........12 foot wooden ladder. Not even a collapsible ladder.

Looks good. That Danish goalie looks a good shotstopper but clearly couldn’t deal with crosses. I checked the team lists and it seems he was one Morton-Caspar Kijaun or MC Kijaun but known as “James” by his mates.

I don't think it is classed as a boardroom anymore. I was told all the trophies had been packed away probably never to see the light of day again. Isn't it the Alan Buckley Suite for entertaining guests?

I think it was a board room in a literal sense…last time I was up there, just over a couple of years ago it was like a time warp…

If you were to take away everything except the walls and furniture, it would perhaps resemble the Captain's cabin on the Titanic.

I looked round the “Sir Alan room” last Friday…… It’s nothing like it was……very modern style with round tables all decked out in black and white. No sign of any memorabilia

Could have sworn I put up some old footy shirts and some other bits on the walls. Good news on the GTFC shirt.
