Not sure if anyone has mentioned it but Chesterfield signed Solihull’s POTS on Friday, as they are in the midst of an injury crisis. Obviously we don’t have as much (seemingly unlimited) money as Chesterfield but that is how you do a signing!

We do too… but just look at Stockport- throwing money at it doesn’t always work.

Our incredible support and the manager deserves the board stepping up to spend money on in demand players to give us the best chance.
The days of hoping for football fortune have gone. The club have done great so far but now is the time to show our muscle in player recruitment.

This has been posted before, but it’s worth a reminder on Chesterfield. They had an in insurance policy in place which covered them in the event that they lost income through crowds dropping below a certain level. It seems prescient now, though I suspect it was probably taken out to give them solidarity in the event of a typical recession (as opposed to what ensued with Covid), however in effect they were able to claim the same benefits as all other clubs in terms of furlough and government grants, all the while having their lost gate money covered by their insurance policy. Having won a high court case forcing their insurer to pay out an eye watering sum, they’ve been able to run the club with virtually zero cost for 18 months whilst still benefiting from the gate income which most clubs missed out on during that period. They’re the only club I’ve heard of to have had such a policy in place, but I suspect that’s the reason they’ve been able to sign the likes of Kabongo Tshimanga. He’d have been playing EFL football otherwise. Fans should always be able to criticise when it’s fair. For all our recent turmoil as a club, we have the resources to be able to beat the likes of Wealdstone, Kidderminster and Aldershot. But we shouldn’t always assume that this division is a level playing field - for a variety of reasons there are a number of clubs with greater resources than ourselves, whether we like it or not.

Whatever the individual circumstances there are a handful of clubs who can compete for the best players at this level. We are one of them. Most clubs do not have our advantages including having mega rich owners. We must make it pay.
