2 first-team players will be missing.  Not sure why this has not meant others have to isolate this time?

It's the gift that keeps on giving, evidently. I wonder that we'll never be rid of it.

A friend who is a nurse has just got covid for the 3rd time, and has been double jabbed. Also two people in our company who’ve had it after being double jabbed as well.

I think last week proved the squad has some depth, all being well it won't impact the players with or without Covid too much.

It's certainly not going away no matter what we do. We are at least becoming better equipped at dealing with outbreaks but we tried containment and vaccination, it's still evolving and here to stay. The only way to not get it is to barely go anywhere or be lucky.

You can get it no matter how many jabs you’ve had, and pass it on. The benefit of having them are symptoms supposedly lessen. The jabs aren’t a cure. As has been said above we’ll have to learn to live with this thing for a long time to come. Hopefully we won’t get to the point of everything stopping again..not sure folk will be as tolerant if they have to go through any lock downs again, or things getting called off - be it music, sports, pubs etc

With you on this - research shows that for the generally healthy, the most resilient immunity comes from vaccination and exposure to the virus. Sadly, those with underlying health conditions may have to have more restrictive lifestyles but like with flu, people will have their yearly jabs to protect them as much as possible.

And that means a bigger % of the population need to get themselves vaccinated to help protect the vulnerable.

Not very well. Vaccination has been OK but the containment has been shîte, leading to more cases and more mutations, which undermines the vaccines a bit.

Unlikely we'll ever get sterilising immunity with vaccines for this virus, but boosters which target the newest variants will probably become the norm for those over 50 or perhaps over 60, just as they are with flu. It isn't the flu, however, which only causes a couple of thousand deaths most years and very rarely causes long-term symptoms in previously young and healthy people like 'Long Covid'. It wouldn't surprise me if younger people were offered a booster before next winter, though we need to get them fully vaccinated first, of course.

Various antiviral treatments are being developed and some of those should be available in the UK some time next month - Molnupiravir reportedly reduces the risks of hospitalisation/death by as much as 50% if you take the course of pills early enough but it will only be the elderly/those at risk given this medication. I think that's why the government are making the mistake of holding off from 'Plan B' (i.e. not doing much more other than requiring people to wear masks indoors again). They are hopelessly wrong, of course, as all the medical and public health experts are pointing out, but it's what we expect from this government. Doing nothing makes a lockdown much more likely.

It would be nice if we could get vaccines to children, but the way things are going, most of them will become infected before anything is authorised so I've just got my fingers-crossed that my kids won't get too poorly from it. Absolutely no chance of avoiding infection in the longer term due to the obvious 'herd immunity' plan put in place by our useless government.

Masses of sickness at work, nothing to do with Covid and everything to do with everything with the fact last year nobody seemed to get a cold or flu.

1 single positive Covid test this term and the pupil has only actually attended school a couple of weeks anyway. Pupil was vaccinated, it is what it is.

Crack the intercourse on, people are slowly going back to the life they had and want…

Without this thread descending in to yet another Covid thread, we’ve got the depth to the squad, we know we’ve a strong team and the mood in the camp and around the club is Uber postive so I’m not really concerned…

I know one of the players who is out but I won't name him as Hurst clearly doesn't want to let the opposition know, otherwise he would have named names.

Let's just say he will be a big miss but It's a squad game and you can lose players at any time.

I’m going to speculate that you know it’s a midfielder/forward as we’re fairly well covered in defence and goal. We can say it’s definitely not McAtee (named fit) or Clifton (player interviewed at media conference). Anyone else want to help narrow it down? Have you seen Ryley Towler in Ramsdens or Ryan Taylor at Pennells?

A more tactically astute fan would’ve named the player but dropped a red herring in, on the off chance their manager is monitoring the chatter on here.

Anyway, hope it’s McKeown as I thought Crocombe looked decent last week and, ideally, you’re hoping the keeper has a quiet day regardless .

He looked far more confident in the air than McKeown and I’d like to see him get a run of games. If that’s ok with you? Someone’s got Covid, sooner him than Taylor, McAtee, Hunt or Fox for me.

Aside from McAtee and Taylor, I can’t think of a player in the squad who we don’t have ample back up for. So whoever it is, I’m sure it’s not a complete disaster.

Would we have a four page discussion if the players were simply ill with a cold, the trots of the like?

They’re poorly, they can’t play…simples.

To be honest I like Macca but I’m indifferent when it comes to picking a keeper…both are decent…

Oh please don't start this hare running. Vaccination and vaccines do not "cause" mutations. Viruses mutate naturally but vaccines are usually able to respond to the vast majority of such mutations.

To compare a cold or the trots with Covid is just stupid, as you are no doubt aware there are around 150-200 people a day still dying from Covid.

I suspect there are 150-200 dying from cancer and 150-200 dying from heart failure but we seem to have brushed them under the carpet. Think the point he was making is that at some point we have to accept covid is here and get on with our lives

I fail to understand why the government hasn't made it compulsory to wear face masks for EVERYBODY ( unless medically exempt )  in public places - I wear face masks on the bus, in shops, entering restaurants etc. A little uncomfortable but it doesn't HURT. They WANT us to wear masks so why don't they MAKE us

I suspect there are 150-200 dying from cancer and 150-200 dying from heart failure but we seem to have brushed them under the carpet. Think the point he was making is that at some point we have to accept covid is here and get on with our lives

I do accept we have to get on with our lives and live with it. Just making the point that the comparison with a cold or the trots seems overly Blasé. You wouldn’t compare Cancer or Heart Failure with a cold or the trots would you?

I fail to understand why the government hasn't made it compulsory to wear face masks for EVERYBODY ( unless medically exempt )  in public places - I wear face masks on the bus, in shops, entering restaurants etc. A little uncomfortable but it doesn't HURT. They WANT us to wear masks so why don't they MAKE us

Because they want us to have the freedom to choose

I know a few people when they go shopping they test themselves at home first using lateral flow test and when it comes back all clear they jump in their car and head straight to the supermarket and don't wear a mask, reason being is that LFT come back as negative so they are  safe in the knowledge it is unlikely they have Covid therefore they don't feel the need to wear a facemask

Those who choose to be cautious are being let down by those who don’t care. This is of course the case in almost everything but people are losing lives and loved ones because of it. Real leadership would be to bring some lighter measures back in to get it back under control again but the government and those loyal to them are precious about freedom of choice.

Anyway: patient confidentiality has gone out the window and someone has named two defenders on Facebook as those with positive tests. Let’s have a win Town!

I think patient confidentiality and personal details have been out the window since this all started…that’s half the issue.

My point was missed entirely, people have really gotten themselves in knots and on their high horses during all this…

Some players are poorly, simple. I don’t care what with, it’s none of my business; they’re not fit to play…the end…why does it matter what they have unless it’s a long term issue that will have longer lasting implications such as heart disease, cancer etc…and then, it’s still none of our business really.

I noticed a thread saying some folk test themselves whenever they leave the house…wowsers. That’s not precautionary it’s fear…wear a mask, don’t wear a mask. Test yourself, don’t test yourself…either way, a huge vaccine roll out and yet here we are…crack on and live our lives and acknowledge its here to stay…

See you at the match, happy three points…

McAtee and Taylor. Bapaga and Sousa are feeling a bit peaky too.

We have 8 quality defenders for 4 positions. No big issue for me.

Well Covid isn't going away we need to learn to live with it, and I have, unlike others.

I am very mindful Covid still exists and people are dying but I am not going to lock myself away and never go anywhere incase I pass it on to somebody and they unfortunately pass away.

I will continue to go out and do whatever I want to within the law as we now have that freedom to do so, when I walk into a shop I wear a facemask, when I am getting on a train I evaluate how busy the carriage is to decide if I will put it on or not, like if it is near enough empty and there's only me and somebody else the other end of the carriage then I won't wear it because there is nobody in my vicinity to protect! At Grimsby games I don't wear one as we are all crammed in anyway tightly packed together so wearing a face mask with loads of others around you who aren't is a waste of time!

I'm going to a concert on Thursday night and I will not wear a face mask in my seat, however I will ensure I test myself before I go to the concert.

My guess, and it's only a guess, is Taylor and efete, don't know who the winger could be though.

Not sure why people need to speculate when the teams are announced in 40 mins.

Nor do I know why clubs are always so secretive when it comes to which players have covid but will always say who’s injured.

Big blow that, I said yesterday that only Taylor and McAtee don’t have back-ups that I’m comfortable with.

Lennys finishing is going to have to be a lot better than last week

Less likely to pass it on if fully vaccinated though all bets are pretty much off if you're sharing a house with somebody who is infected. With a bit of luck, nobody else in the squad will test positive - assuming they are fully vaccinated, it will be relatively recently that they got their second jab due to the age of most of them so most should still be well-protected.

The wider issue isn't the thousands of people dying from Covid at present, it's the fact that the NHS is teetering on the brink. The number of beds has been reduced by 20 percent to try and stop Covid spreading in hospitals, but we were operating at bare bones level with pretty much no spare capacity before the pandemic hit. The backlog of people requiring treatment is growing right now, so the NHS already isn't coping and this in mid-October before we even get any bad weather!

With Covid cases, hospitalisations and deaths increasing again, things are getting worse and the failure to implement even the mild measures of 'Plan B' to try and keep Covid in check is a terrible failure. The booster programme won't save us because we're going too slow. Hopefully, it can be ramped up very quickly to give us a chance.
