It's not their ground. They don't own it.

According to a recent article, It seems they turned down a £4 million offer of Van Vene from a Chinese club. . Swann wanted £8 million apparently.

No. A company owned by Swann. Scunthorpe United don't own it.

I may no longer live in Lincolnshire but my thoughts are below.

I want us to get back up to the football league and I also want Scunthorpe to be there too. I take no delight in seeing a club experiencing difficulties at the hands of poor business management. Lincolnshire is the second largest county in England and the county is vastly underrepresented in footballing terms compared to its size. Another team in our county going down is a massive shame to all of us and is going to be a detriment going forward. We need local and quality teams  to draw talent to pursue our own goals.

I understand that the guy who padlocked the gates at the Old Show Ground placed the keys in a dish on the table, hoping that he does get the b1tch with four legs tonight!

The same guy nailed his season ticket to a telegraph pole outside the ground as part of the protest....he went home and sat and stewed....the more he pondered the doubts crept in so he went back to the ground only to find some lousy b@st@rd had taken the nail.

I agree with your general sentiment, but Lincs is only the 2nd biggest county by area. By population it is modest. At < 1.1m it’s 18th.

Besides, it’d be nice for Scunny to have a chance of struggling in non-League like us and Lincoln.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.

No sympathy from me, their support wasn't moaning when Swann was throwing £8K a week as their better players whilst trying to get into the Championship.

If they went down it would make me smile, if we took their place I'd laugh.

Zero sympathy here. Swann tried to be Billybigballs and has found it’s not just as easy as chucking your money around. He’s also sacked some pretty decent managers in his time too. 😂😂

I have no idea why 24 people on this forum would red cross this, but I believe that Plankton is more right than you. Ribbing is ribbing, insults, ok, but wanting a town 35 miles down the road to lose their club? That's totally on you and proves you have a very limited  set of horizons.

I don't think most posters are saying they want them to fold, just drop down to non league for a bit.

When we went out the league before they posted bile like I hope your club dies blah blah blah more than what you’d expect from a rival . I’d like to say I’ve matured but f*** em - I want them relegated year on year.

Would Scunny ever make it back into the League if (when?) they drop out? Not sure they would. I could see them as a solid enough National League club, I suppose. They didn't get in the League until the 1950s, I think? That was back when it was a prosperous town with all the steelworks, but a lot has changed since then.

They need to get their ground back and sort their finances out. The National League are a lot less lenient than the EFL when it comes to teams entering administration.

Unless Swann writes their debt off, you can't see it having a positive ending.

Sorry but I have no sympathy for Scunny, they wollowed in our demise and took great pleasure in it, right now they are spiralling out of control with an egotistical prat at the helm
I don't want to see them out of business and no longer exist but I'd gladly put 2 fingers up to all their fans should they go down.

What football fans don't gloat at the discomfort of their local rivals? But actually wouldn't we rather be playing and beating Lincolnshire rivals than tinpot clubs from bland SE commuter towns like Stevenage, Crawley and Sutton and actually I'd be surprised if most Scunthorpe fans, the ones with a modicum of intelligence anyway, didn't think the same...

The thing is that Swann isn’t even a Scunny fan. At no point have I said that I want them out of business but even Fenty didn’t run our club beyond its means in the way that Swann has run Scunny. I’m sure they’ll survive but relegation will forever change the way they’re run.

Agreed and let's be honest, the more local derbies the better the league. Do I want Scunthorpe in the same league as us. You bet I do.

He isn’t a scunny fan, you are correct but he has still actually put money in, unlike our now removed autocratic wankstain…

I don’t want to see any real team in a mess, even though it’s become part of the game it seems…

I think, having spoken to season tickets holding scunt that going down could be a blessing, as it could be for us and certainly was for Lincoln in the end…scunny’s issue is sustainability I guess. The club is probably less saleable down there and he seems to value them at a much higher price…

I’d agree with several on here though, whilst I’ll enjoy their footballing misfortune, I know who I’d rather play, and it’s not the likes of Crawley and Sutton…

I used to work with a scunt fan. He gloated beyond belief when we got relegated at burton. Constantly took the pi5s about the teams we were playing

Agree with this.

Scunny fans are folk who've chosen to support their local, low-level, unfashionable team rather than being sucked in by the premiersh1t hype and marketing.
Like Town fans, then.

And they gloat when their local rivals are struggling...like Town fans.

Happy to give them plenty of abuse when we play them, (and beating Scunthorpe is such an enjoyable experience for every Town fan), but I can't manage
the lingering, festering resentment thereafter...we've too much in common imo.

I’d rather they slide down the snakes into NLN or below just to laugh at them but can actually see them going bust and Swann selling the land for redevelopment as a more likely outcome.

Do i waant scunthorpe to be relegated? Yes.
Do I want them to go out of business? No.
I'm sure in that small crowd theirs some genuine people who are (like ourselves) passionate aabout their town and their team. For those (all clubs have them) I'd never want a club to go bust. But, to be relegated, well someone needs to be, so why not scunny.

I don't think most posters are saying they want them to fold, just drop down to non league for a bit.

'Cause it'd be funny.

you might have been right when you posted that, but it doesn't look like you are now. but anyway, 24 red crosses for Plankton's post must have meant 24 people disagreed with him, which is a lot on here, I think. I hope you are right in terms of Town fans on her in general though, the ones who haven't posted or red-crossed, I would hope they would want more success for local clubs, which are businesses, and the spin-off trade that happens as a result of that success.

If Scunthorpe do go down there’s plenty of historic tweets from their lot last season that will be getting dragged up and rubbed in their faces

A word of warning , they were bottom last season as I recall and had a very good run before faltering again . They could turn this around (hope not)

The difference is they brought Karacan in who was fairly cheap as he had a point to prove. He proved that point and they wouldn't pay him his worth.

Aside from last season Harry Davis has played in the SPL and the bottom end of League 2 for a number of years.

If we got going a couple of weeks earlier then Scunthorpe would have been the ones getting relegated last season.

I would like the scunts to be still in the league next season.

Because that will be an easy 6 points for us as we go up through the leagues.

After that I don't think we would ever play them again in my lifetime.

As we found last season it's very difficult to get the right players in at Xmas when your at the bottom.. doesn't look like they have the right players there at mo either so doesn't look good for them.

Yes no one wants a relegation from the league in their CV. If they are still bottom they will probably have a new manager in as well

It's even harder to find the right players in the January window when you have a transfer embargo applied. They cannot pay a fee for anybody, including loans, and cannot pay more wages to a player to secure a loan so they will be limited to any free agents [still without a club or released from contract in January] or free loanees. Now the second route may be a potential avenue for them given the ones we have so far unearthed... but I don't know if we are paying a fee for any of our loanees either. All this and they have to remain within the 23 player squad so if they are already up at that number they will also need to release some players (although loans can only be half a season so I guess some of the current ones will end). Looks like they need a windfall from a player sale in all reality to be able to clear up space in the squad and also pay off the loan to lift the embargo.

As you say, it doesn't look good at all when the embargo is factored into their current position. They certainly won't get (m)any mercenaries looking for a big six month pay day as without a windfall they don't have the cash and cannot spend money that was due to the limits placed on the loan.

As quite a few others have said there is potential for them to not only be relegated but also to go out of business here if they are relegated unless Swann changes tune or finds a wealthy benefactor (who, let's be fair, needs to have a screw loose to even contemplate paying £8m+).

So, my partner is a FGR fan, and since its her birthday on Monday, I thought it would be nice to take her to the game yesterday. Turned out to be a nice day for both of us. Scunny really are shocking. FGR didn't need to do much at all for them to completely roll over.

Oh and for the people begging for their sympathy... Not a single 'Swann out' song, nothing about the management. But 'Shlt in the b*stards below' they sang that alright. Long may their demise continue. UTM

The bit of RH I heard yesterday after our game (foolishly expecting a Hurst interview) was a voxpox with their ‘regime loyalists’ moaning about the protesters. They desperately need an Alex May moment to open their eyes.

It’ll happen at scunny eventually…

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

How sad is that? I remember watching Town (and in particular Ronnie Bull) getting dismantled there by a Colin Kazim-Richards inspired Bury one Good Friday. Full house that day, I think, because they were in trouble even back then and it was some kind of Fans United event  trying to raise money.

With so much money in football this kind of thing should never happen. Absolutely tragic that it does.

The comparison with Fenty is not very strong. Swann has admitted specific failings in himself and is appears to be acting on it.

Gregor have highlights £20m nvestment by Swann all spent and gone largely on player wages over  seven years which is staggering at this level. Contrast with GTFC over the same period. Can’t critiscise him for lack of investment just ineptitude.Moving the ground ownership from one company he owns to another isn’t a big issue though it obviously doesn’t look good to those not involved in finance . Scunnys only escape route from oblivion requires either his continuing support or cooperation on a benevolent sale . Classic example of why not to invest in a football club.

Carlisle also winning away at Newport which means that as it stands Scunny are 4 points adrift of safety with the worst goal difference in the division (which at -18, is already twice as bad as the next worst team).

Dunno! They have that doomed vibe going on. The one we know all too well.

They've won something like 2 games out of the last 30 stretching over last season and this. Hard to put the brakes on when the slide starts.

We went down with 43 points and scored 37 goals. They have played 13 games (about 1/3rd ) and have 8 points with 8 goals; 3 of those points came with their only win in August, which all looks like relegation form to me, hopefully.

Yep, they have a PPG so far that extrapolates to 28 points over the course of the season. They might improve, but they have a transfer embargo, an owner who doesn’t want to spend any money, a poor squad and a manager out of his depth.

This is more an observation than a gloat; I’d be amazed if they find a way out of this.

Interesting number, 86. I noticed that according to the match stats on flashscores Carlisle had 86% possession in the second half, that's quite incredible. Also there are only 12 points that separate Scunny from the play-offs. I agree it's very early to writing a team off but it certainly looks very hard to see a way that team/manager/director combo can make the changes needed.

Maybe Carlisle had all the possession because Newport had two players sent off

The comparisons between us last year and Scunny this are valid in my opinion, although for different reasons
They do seem to be in that downward spiral that's tough to escape. The manager is clearly not up to the job and the supporters appear to have given up looking at the numbers. If the owner was showing the slightest interest in their plight they could hold some hope, but he seems to have gone awol and they appear to be drifting to the cliff edge collectively
I honestly don't know if I feel sorry for them or I'm deliriously happy at their situation but probably erring towards sympathy. All in all it makes NE Lincs look like a joke and a hopeless backwater and as a proud Grimbarian that's not good

They are sill only 3 points from safety so plenty of time for them to rescue the situation. I think some wishful thinking in play if we think they are as good as down.

Scunny are bottom of the league and in a tailspin while we are top of our league, scoring goals for fun, playing football not seen since (cue Heavenly Chorus) Lord Alan and we have owners who care and seem like good people.

Wishful thinking? This has been the best 3 months of my f*cking life!

I can't help thinking though, that if Swann wants out, the Scunts are are far more attractive proposition to a potential buyer with their league status than without. So it would make sense for him to try and keep them up. But a club with no assets and a poor squad is highly unlikely to appeal to many. I can't see Swann getting anything like the £19 million he had sunk into the club back. He'd be doing well to get 10% of that back I imagine.

Bradford were able to but their way to safety last January, sadly we didn't. However, if the transfer embargo remains in place in January, they will have to make do with their existing squad which will be difficult. Maybe a new manager will be able to get more out of them?

The term 'Flogging a dead horse comes to mind'. Transfer embargo problems, an owner that doesn't want to invest anymore, and 8 goals in 13 games. It's not impossible to stay up but more than likely it's relegation.

The sad thing is we won't have a local Derby as we'll be promoted.

I tuned in to Humberside to listen last night, Scunny's keeper saved a penalty, made 3 or 4 "worldie" saves and pretty much from the point of  Scunny scoring they parked the bus.
An equaliser was inevitable, and lucky to hold on to the single point overall.

A point may boost their confidence a little but the quality sounded very thin

I think quality in Scunthorpe, in general, is pretty thin!

No, I want their fans to experience the pain and humiliation of relegation into non-league.

So I won’t be indulging in any premature gloating. They’re still a division above us.

They're one place above us in the pyramid, with significantly worse form.

I won't indulge in any premature gloating, but their gloating has gone very, very quiet.

That one position is actually a massive difference. It entitles them to play in the Football League.

Their position at the bottom of their division and ours at the top of our division might be temporary. It’s only October.

They are very doomed in my opinion. The whole club smacks of semi-pro from top to bottom. They have an injured player (cant remember his name) who is waiting to see a specialist but cant yet because nobody is available to drive him there! that is unbelievable.

Then you have gategate. Someone locking their gates and the embarrassment it took to get the situation sorted, they tried a saw first ffs! I'm sure in a town built on the steel industry must have a grinder or two knocking about? on top of all this, Cox seems absolutely delighted with a point at barrow. Head in the clouds, club in the gutter.

I stumbled across a Twitter account that pulls mildly interesting stats on Scunny. It certainly makes for some sobering reading (so much so, I might just raise a glass to it).

Sadly you're right; turns out I'm a bit of a deviant and I was using my lunch break to trawl the web for "bogeyed mutant porn". Rather bizarrely, all that came back was a load of Scunthorpe-related content. How weird is that?

Anyway, got what I was after in the end; seems that inhaling the fumes from the local steelworks and fúcking your own mum doesn't do wonders for the gene pool.

Blimey, saucy stuff though.

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

More bad news for scunts fans. When they are relegated next year and Swanny sells the ground they can't ground share with Brigg. Grimsby Town Ladies now play their home games at Brigg. So it's Winterton or Gainsborough, but I can't see Gainsborough wanting Swann back.

Still they could do the honourable thing and burn their scarf's and buy some black and white ones. A visit to BP will show them what they been missing.
