Being allowed seven subs must surely work in our favour, strength in depth and all that.

A mate who supports Burnley said he would watch the game on TV if we had a very strong team out.  I have been telling him how good we are this season.  I had better tell him that these are all first team regulars. 😃

I would like to think we would have McAtee or Taylor on the bench rather than a youth in case Lenny runs out of steam/breaks too early. Big chance for a couple of players to stake a place though, will be interesting having Bapaga and Sousa out wide in the same game.

Surprised we’ve made quite as many changes, but that still looks like a pretty strong lineup. A reminder of what a good squad we have this season for the first time in years.

Also a suggestion perhaps that Efete’s not going to automatically get his place back, which is fair enough in my book - Sears has done well.

Like Ska said on another thread I hope we get an early goal to give our not quite match fit players time to get into the game without any real pressure and put Sporting on the backfoot.

Hurst and Doig watched Bromsgrove in the week so they must be confident looking at the changes.. I hope there right!

Some changes but it is still a strong team, so it's unlike we are playing our kids, I like to think this team has enough about it to see them off but also I am of course aware they will really be up for this game

Might have already been referred to but the fact that the loan players are included might be an indication based upon the current situation at their clubs they may be staying after January 🤞

Clicked onto the BBC page to check match details etc and found we have a new manager!, or someone who wants to be Paul Hurst. Another large co ck up by the BBC.

Last week we scored when we didn't and now this. Wonder what they'll say/do next?

"KING GOBLIN" & "SHEPHERD NEAME 1698" my favourite two bottled beers but it might not be for everyone, pretty strong.

Anyway...COME ON TOWN.

Not seen anything about Taylor’s impending baby recently. Has she dropped, or has he been given the week off to feed her hot curries?

Beckford has spent all of about 30 seconds preparing for this commentary - literally hasn't a clue about any of our players, or how to pronounce some of their names!

Beckford has spent all of about 30 seconds preparing for this commentary - literally hasn't a clue about any of our players, or how to pronounce some of their names!

Beckford somehow confusing Sousa and Revan there, even though one is at left back and one on the right wing

A bit hard done by for the second goal, it looked very borderline. That's the nature of competition though in the cup and the games can go either way. On another day their early pressure could have paid off and they nick a goal then we are on the backfoot.

Id agree Revan looks like a winger defiantly left wing back compared to defensive left back

As Jermaine Beckford just said Grimsby have it kushdee

That one on one just about sums him up

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

That was embarrassing.  LJL has to get on the score sheet if two defenders are.

That'll do for half time FA Cup game against an opposition which teams often slip up against.

Can't say I've seen any of his superb hold up play that Grovesy has been wobbling on about. Frankly I thing LJL is abysmal - preferred it when he was out injured, he didn't miss so many

I'm really hoping John-Lewis is on it for the second half and bags a goal or two, he does do well to get into the positions but it's the final bit that's lacking at the moment.

Not unless or until we get out of this league. They are playing great football which I am loving but only the final result will persuade me he was the right choice

LJL is so frustrating, he should at least have 2 now, but this hold-up play is great, tough to give criticism and praise at the same time.

John-Lewis is becoming a parody of himself from the last time he was here. I can understand why Hurst has him around the squad and as a late impact and hold up player but we need someone else as cover as an out and out striker IMO

Don't think the ref has given us one free kick yet.!!

Not bothered today as we're 3 - 0 up. Just as long we don't get any injuries.

Lenny in front of goal looks like he’s trying a bit too hard, when he turned their defender he just needed a bit of composure.

Awful penalty, that. I know none of them have mattered, but that's 3 already this season.

On a more positive note, Bapaga is winning pens at a Lester-esque rate - 4 I think now.

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Great work by Bapaga to win the penno, he knows what he's doing and how to draw a foul. Followed up by a poor penalty by somebody who has struggled to score easy chances all day.

Great finish by Bapa for number 5, got to feel for their keeper, I thought he'd made a cracking save as first

Good professional performance, didn't let the level of opposition or the TV cameras go to their heads, kept organised and won very comfortably. Good to see players on the fringes and young players getting some minutes on the pitch, there is competition in many positions and that's good for us, maybe not up front though. Good for Bapaga to come back after a suspension and get 90 minutes under his belt, played well and got himself a goal.

A surprisingly comfortable win as we were just so much better than Bromsgrove. I don't think a single one of their players would have got in our team - keeper OK, I suppose.

LJL played pretty well holding up the ball and linking play but his finishing was worse than usual. That said, some pretty poor attempts from other players during the game as well and we should easily have had a few more.

The commentators obviously hadn't done any research at all (Beckford, especially), but had plenty of praise for us because we did play pretty well. They were desperately trying to talk up Bromsgrove at times when they only managed a few good bits of play all game. Good to see us so cohesive after so many changes to the team so we're obviously working well in training.

I like the look of our keeper and what a kick on him !!!

Mecca needs to be at his best to keep him out.

A good set of youths coming through and Hurst has got a very good squad together.

Can't wait to see us play live next saturday.

A little harsh on Bromsgrove.  They ran out of steam and ideas but they never got their head down; not did they resort to any dirty stuff.  In fact, they were quite sporting. They'd have done better against us last year.

Good job they gave it to him

I love it FAF
You have got to love LJL
Every league game he's come on this season he's done the job he's been asked to do.
Today sums up why he should never be referred to as a center forward.
Love the bloke, makes me smile

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Good game, good win, everyone played well, LJLs touch at times was sublime. We all know though he will miss chances, but gets in the positions and scored 20 last time he was with us so can do it. Def should have let Reven take the 2nd penno to get his hat trick as Shop was always going to miss it

Hats off to Paul Hurst. Lots of different opinions in advance on what team he should pick and general agreement it was a tricky call, but I think he got the balance spot on and by the time we finished Sears was the only player on the pitch who started last Saturday. Good days work.

A little harsh on Bromsgrove.  They ran out of steam and ideas but they never got their head down; not did they resort to any dirty stuff.  In fact, they were quite sporting. They'd have done better against us last year.

I wasn't being critical of Bromsgrove. They were an honest bunch who tried to play football, but we shut them down pretty much every time they were trying to attack. We were just much too good for them on the day as I'm sure their manager will admit.

Today just reinforces what we already knew about Hurst and this squad.
Very professional throughout, from the work rate, shape, application and gave the opposition respect but commanded them.
Not the toughest opposition but approach it wrong and you run the risk of slipping up....not a chance of that with the current set up.

LJL - had an excellent game with his back to goal....but a poor game facing the goal.

Crocombe- one very good stop, came for a couple of crosses but a pretty easy afternoon all in all.

Classic cup performance.

On we go.

I can see absolutely nothing whatsoever to be cheerful about in the football ability (I use the word loosely) of Lennell John-Lewis. Not worth a place in the current squad.

Didn't rate him that much first time around the highlight of his career was when the ball hit him in the face and went into the Bristol Rovers net at Wembley

There must be better gap fillers out there than him surely

In the end we did not really need to break sweat did we? we never expended much energy as we didn't need to, we was far superior to Bromsgrove in every department and we never really looked troubled, they did try but they never made hard for us really, and I was expecting more from them, we could have had double figures really couldn't we?

Crocombe never had much to do but what he did have to do he did well, he seems a perfectly capable back up and would have no issues with him having to come into the fold if needed, back 4 untroubled but looked organsied, Pearson was a magnet and he won every ball I think, Longe King also did well, Revan is more of a winger/wing back type and 2 excellent strikes from him. Fox was excellent, John Lewis, yes his finishing was really poor as we all know it is but 2nd half especially I thought he did well holding the ball up and using his body well. but do we need better should Taylor be unfortunate enough to be unavailable for a lenghtly time? yes I think we probably will.

All in all, another good performance and much needed game time given to several players.

round 1 here we come.

For me, Fox was the most consistent Town player over the 90 minutes, breaking up many of their attempts to break out of defence.

I don't recall seeing a bad pass from him either.

If Souza had stayed on, he would have been my MOM, but Fox gains my vote.

Good confidence gaining game from Seb Revan.

Another nice cameo from Max Wright.

Job done through a strong squad.

What a strong squad we have. Even our second string would be a top half conference side.

Apart from LJL. New striker needed to compete with Taylor

Good game, good win, everyone played well, LJLs touch at times was sublime. We all know though he will miss chances, but gets in the positions and scored 20 last time he was with us so can do it. Def should have let Reven take the 2nd penno to get his hat trick as Shop was always going to miss it

He has only got anywhere near that once in 15 seasons and a good percentage of them were penalties.

We definitely need another striker in case McAtee and Taylor are out for any length of time.

Couldn’t ask for better than that. Whole spine of the team looked completely solid which is encouraging when only Fox out of that 6 (Keeper, CBs, CMs & LJL) has been starting recently. Decent run outs for Khouri and Wright, the wingers and Revan looked great going forward, no injuries, no cards, clean sheet and could’ve been about 6/7 more. Really happy.

Nothing to say really that hasn't been said. You know you've played really well as a team when your finishing is largely poor and you still come out with a 5 nil win.  Some solid minutes for players that have been on the periphery will do them the world of good and you can tell the confidence and belief runs through the entire squad. Revan was ace and I'm sad for him he wasn't handed the ball on the second penalty, someone should have had a word.

I think some of the criticism of LJL has been very harsh.

He was clearly fit by the effort he put in - he just looked woefully less than fully match-sharp. Which is understandable.

If he can't improve (I think he will) we need better, but he deserves not to be written off in a comeback appearance.

He's never going to be great if you judge him on his misses...we knew that already.

Accepting we’re scoring goals all over the pitch, I’ve got to say that a Ryan Taylor injury scares the living daylights out of me. We’ve got great cover in the squad but your reserve striker can’t spurn chances like Lenny did today.

Just think back to last season when we went out tamely to Dagenham and Redbridge, who hadn't won for weeks and were a league below us.

With a much changed side today, we made them look like a Sunday league team and could have had 10. We opened them up at will and Lenny should have had a hat trick.

One of the most one sided FA Cup games I can ever remember.

iirc Hurst said he's doing light training with the youth squad now, and if that goes ok he may be training with the first team next week.

So still a way to go.

I reckon this might be a bit of mind games from Hurst. Highly likely McAtee would be rested today anyway and to leave him off the bench gives another squad player a chance to get some potential minutes. Keep Yeovil guessing ahead of next week but at the minute I think whatever team we put out would give any team at our level a good game.

I don't want to sound cocky but Hurst was right in his post we should have scored more, but another 5 goals from a side that looks like it's oozing with confidence. I was impressed with Pearson & Longe-King today I know their attack wasn't that much but I thought they looked really solid in defence. Fox continues to impress.

LJL has a lot of qualities to admire but sadly finishing isn't one of them, which is why he didn't have a career at a higher level. To be fair to him, he's been out for a good while and he was obviously a bit ring rusty. Yes he spurned some gilt edged chances but I felt he was a little unlucky at times and their keeper made a couple of very good saves from him also. The 2nd penalty was pretty dreadful though!

I thought LJL looked a bit too developed myself. Looked a bit muscle bound and static on occasion.

He's no Akinfenwa.

I think LJL has deliberately gone towards the Akinfenwa route. He's had a  fair few injuries since his previous stint with us so can't do the running he once did (to be fair, it was a hell of a lot of running!). As an already big bloke, putting on a bit of extra upper body muscle wouldn't have been difficult for him and gives him the chance to affect games in a different way. Shooting aside, he was pretty good today with his link up play. Just a pity he still gets 'goalline fever' when presented with a sight of goal!

LJ Lewis wouldn't get in the Bromsgrove team. He may hold the ball up and lay off on the odd occasion but his shooting is abysmal. Couldn't hit a cows backside with a banjo!

If I ever had to face a firing squad LJL is the man to fire the gun for me!

Lenny holds the ball up well and clearly has a positive influence on the squad etc. Nobody has ever doubted his hard work and determination but the bloke couldn’t finish a dinner…

Bloody hell I hope not!

Relax. he said the injury was not serious and that he should be ok for next week.

The point is that players can be injured in training at any time.  So we definitely need back up.

Think Lenny would be good in a 442 supporting another striker, holding up the ball and providing the lay-offs.. in the same way he did for our wide players today.

Essel looked OK too, was hoping he'd get a full half after going in 3 up at half time.

A lot of draws in today’s cup ties meaning replays for the likes of Wrexham and Halifax plus Yeovil so hopefully more tired legs for these teams.

Well if McAtee doesn't make it for Yeovil then at least Bapaga and Sousa are both in fine form, I thought they were both outstanding today. Fox was brilliant too, he works so hard with and without the ball, he's really looking the player we all hoped he'd be.

Can't believe how strong the depth of this squad is, seven changes and we still looked so fluid, Hurst really has a difficult job picking next weeks team!

Just rewatched the game having slyly followed it on my phone during a pub lunch with the in-laws. My only definitive conclusion is that Jermaine Beckford is the worst co-commentator that has ever lived.

Every player he mentioned was brilliant and I am sure he said that Bromsgrove were dominant in the second half.

As we've seen with our own radio commentary, not all former players make good commentators and pundits. Just as they don't all make good coaches and managers.

Just watch the whole 90mins this morning.. We didn't really leave second gear I felt. Centre backs did well, Fox was a class above. I felt wide players did ok, Sousa in patches was unplayable... I felt LJL hold up play was absolutely fantastic but his shooting is poor (as we knew anyway) I think PH is doing the right thing with him, bits and bobs here and there. Keepers kicking was very good, maybe too good at times!

I think some of yesterday’s other results underline what a fine performance and result that was from Town yesterday; Wrexham and Halifax failing to beat Marine and Pontefract Collieries respectively.

You can only beat what’s in front of you, but we made 7 or 8 changes and did that very comfortably without ever looking disjointed. Not the greatest test we’ll face this season, but yet another reminder of the strength in depth we have nonetheless, and signs that Bapaga may be the answer to the question, “how do you play without McAtee?”

I was only worried in case LJL had to replace him

This.
Three changes in the back four, including one's debut, and they never looked uncomfortable. Admittedly against a team from a much lower level but they all knew their roles and how to interact with the rest of the defence and midfield. I think PH has done an excellent job in coaching the whole squad to perform as one unit.

Well he's not going to replace McAtee is he, because they play different roles.

Yes, I am sure. I think senility is starting to set in Swin. Maybe it's time for you to give it a rest, eh?

Anyone know the away attendance? I've got the home attendance, but there wasn't any official announcement for the travelling fans.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

Rather senility than stating the flipping obvious and being stupid enough to take my urine take about LJL seriously

You would worry about facing LJL in a firing squad - if you were standing 10 yards to your left or your right.

P1ss weak comeback. Try again, old man. Or rather - don't because we've heard it all before. Your rhetoric is as old and tired as your are.
