I see that our rivals up the road have started to see attendances fall

Still very decent, but by no means all of the excitement around Sincil Bank as there was.

They were 9,000 plus and pushing over 10,000.

But now they’ve become a bit mediocre in L1 I’ve noticed that they’ve dropped mostly into the 8000+ range

Long may the downward spiral continue

Not sure why we need to continue to analyse Lincoln right now.  Would love to be in L1 and getting 8/9000 attendances.  Their momentum has halted and it will be interesting to see how they handle the next period in their rejuvenation, but there's no point in wishing another demise on them, we just need to make sure we can compete with them again soon.

I love the thought of having 3 league sides in Lincolnshire (Grimsby, Lincoln and Boston - in that order), it shows we’re moving forward rather than the years of rot in the early mid 21st century

Just need the natural order to restore!

Boston have got to negotiate 2 very difficult leagues to get there. I would say they are more likely to be a league team in 5 years than Scunthorpe though.

If your mate took note of what they did right to get to that point, we might not be in this mess.

I don't care what's happening in Lincoln. If anything I'm happy for them, the guys I met during our cycle ride and football matches all those years ago were decent genuine fans.

It's hardly burst when I bet they are higher attendances than they ever dreamed they could attract just a few years ago. The cowleys completely transformed Lincoln as a club.

When you think that after a decent start under cowley they were getting less than 2500 at home in the National League, showing what a small fan base they began at, those crowds are still very impressive.

They’re a world away from us for now at least, a better marker would be the club that’s one place above us in rye pyramid.

This 100%. I would love to see us, the gimps, and Hull all playing in the same division within the next 5 years, be that league 1 or the championship. While the scunts find their level being a midtable team in the conference north.

Sums up the old regimes approach…bring everyone down to our level rather than aspiring to others…

Impossible to criticise Lincoln’s success really, tied in with having new, forward thinking owners. Perhaps it’s our time to have that.

They’d be a club I’d look to as being a bit of blueprint rather than some pseudo rivalry and poking fun at…

Amazing 2 years ago most people on here were calling Lincoln enjoying when they lost saying they hope they fail and come straight back down again. But because a ttread is started by an unpopular poster with similar sentiments its red crosses galore and oh no we dont want them to come back down the leagues  (to their rightful level as many would say). It really is a p1ssar this forum at times.

Wishing bad things for others is usually a reflection of yourself. No bad feeling to Lincoln from my side. Equally, no bad feeling to Scunthorpe as the idiots that came on this forum from Scunthorpe Probably have plenty to reflect on now themselves. It was just an idiotic minority.

You do realise this is a forum with several different people posting. People with different views. It’s not like we’re the Borg.

Some people wished Lincoln would fail. Others didn’t. Some might not have really meant it or changed their views.

A few people saying they wished Lincoln to fail is not ‘most’.

Maybe one step backwards this season, to take two forward next term?

The side has been absolutely ravaged with injuries in the early part of the season (we have 9 players out at present) but when you're up against squads with huge investment relatively speaking (Sunderland, Ipswich, Wigan etc) most Imps fans will be happy with 20th position and a Cup run.

Its also a very young squad (bar Maguire & Bridcutt) that will continue to develop under Appleton's tenure. The re-development of the Stacey-West Stand taking the capacity to 12k will also keep momentum going in a positive direction.

8,000 is still decent.

Lincoln are a 2k to 5k team historically, they've had a huge upturn in interest over the past few years.

I have absolutely no ill feeling towards Lincoln.  I've said before, in my 30+ years supporting Town I've only really seen them as a rival for one season (05/06 when we were both promotion hunting).  The years that followed in League Two it was a faux rivalry and then even the 3 or 4 years in the Conference was more of adding a little needle to local fixtures than anything else.  It has been rare we've battled for the same goals.

I do think that this could be a tricky time for Lincoln though.  The quite frankly incredible increase in the number of Lincoln fans is impressive but based largely (from the outside looking in anyway) on winning most weeks and playing bigger teams.  From struggling to get 2500 a few years back, they've added 7000 fans based on continued success.  It started with the Cowley's first season which brought promotion and a huge cup run.  Since then they've gone from strength to strength, to the point where they were very close to reaching the Championship.

That's 7000 fans that probably never really gave Lincoln City a second thought until 6 years ago and have only known success.  A lower mid-table finish this season, or even a relegation scrap, will be interesting to see what impact that has on season ticket sales next year.

Yes, I do appreciate the near irony when we're riding the crest of our own wave at the minute with increased gates.  Fully aware that our bubble could burst at any point too.

Accept that you have had injuries, most notably Bridcutt, that have affected you but much of the success achieved last season was reflective of the quality of your loan signings particularly Johnson and Rogers plus the sale of Grant. Personally I am not a big fan of clubs being allowed up to 7 loan players per season as it gives teams and fans a totally unrealistic picture of where their team are “at” and the level of achievement. Not solely picking on Lincoln here as all clubs can do it and we certainly had two cracking players in Benson and Glennon two years ago and similarly this year with Hunt and Towler.

A restriction of 4 loan players would I believe be a better option but this is unlikely to happen in a period where Premiership clubs have large numbers, Chelsea and Man City 30 players, out on loan plus their academy sides and this prevents more movement between clubs and probably discourages younger players from moving down a tier or two to play permanently for a lower league club.

Think your bubble is far from bursting, certainly in terms of attendances, but it may be some mid league mediocrity for a while but given your starting point when the Cowleys arrived think most fans will be happy with that.

Just praying we can enjoy a similar improvement in our achievements in the next few seasons.

I also don’t hold out (much) ill will to our 6 fingered cousins, but the real test will be if they are hanging around the bottom third of the league or lower for a longer period of time. Then you’ll see which fans jumped on the bandwagon and which are in it for the long haul.

A mate, his wife and 2 daughters all had season tickets 2 years ago, and now only he goes, and not on a season ticket basis. Covid has got in the way which will obviously affect a number, but will be intrigued to see if they maintain it long term. And fair play to them if they do, good marketing and a feel good factor can make a big difference like they had in their promotion year and beyond, something that out club and our new owners are now bringing to the table.

Long may that continue. UTFM

I don't really care how they do, but any tumbling down that occurs is quite clearly comeuppance for unfurling that ridiculous banner about us being eternally in their shadow 10 seconds after they became better than us for the first time in about 50 years.

No, the building work hasn’t started yet, I think it’s due to commence early in the new year.

We are taking the roof off the StaceyWest Stand, and extending that (so away fans will be temporarily open to the elements) A new bus shelter has been placed in the N/E corner to house 200 or so visitors (under cover) that is the minimum requirement apparently.

The pitch is an absolute carpet having spent a tidy sum relaying it this summer. The trouble is, it appears to be benefiting the opposition more than ourselves results wise at the minute.

Home attendances have generally held up with 6k plus season ticket holders, and there are some good local derbies in League 1 - Rotherham Donny Wednesday and quite a few more clubs within a 2 hour travel time radius (unlike our fixture list) Away followings have been tumbling a bit though. 1,100 hundred to Cambridge on a Saturday the other week compared to 2,500 last time they played there, and 250 to Morcambe midweek. If there is a bottom-half finish this season, season ticket renewals will be a key test.
