1966 World Cup winner Roger Hunt has died aged 83.

Can't be many of them left now.

R.I.P. Roger.

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

I think that leaves only George Cohen, Geoff Hurst & Bobby Charlton left of that team.

Yes. And Cohen (osteoarthritis) & Charlton (dementia) are in poor health.

I thought I'd read somewhere that Hunt had been suffering from dementia as well, although I could be mistaken. With the way the balls were back in those days, it would almost be a surprise if some of the players didn't suffer from some sort of neurodegenerative problems in older age.

Sad news indeed especially coming so soon after Greavsie passed away

Another great goalscorer who had he been playing today would have been a multi-millionaire

RIP Roger.... one of 11 boyhood heroes from '66

RIP Roger Hunt. Massive player back in the day.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

Heard a good anecdote about George Cohen.   A great RB for England in the World Cup and only played for one club  - Fulham.

A few years ago a Sunday newspaper football journalist was looking around a house in Kent to see if they wanted to buy it.   After a tour around they came back to the living room to talk business.

The journalist and his wife liked the house so he was keen to establish any rapport that he could with the vendor.

He spotted a small black and white photograph on the fireplace of the England World Cup winning team.  The journalist said “I see that you like football then?”.

“Yes he said”.  Pointing to the photo,  “That is me on the end there”.  (It was George Cohen).

How many football fans get the opportunity to buy a house from a World Cup winner?

Not so many journalists could afford to buy a house from a current World Cup winner. Unless it was part of the player’s investment property portfolio. 😆
