Looking at his build he might be hypermobile which means lax ligaments and more stress on the tendon insertion to the muscle to hold the lax joint in place.

I.e. injury prone

Yep - more suited to working with the Cliftons perhaps than at Cheapside. No doubt the Town conditioning and physio team will work hard to keep him on the pitch for as much of the season as possible.

I was told pretty much this maybe not exactly word for word but very close to what you describe. How did he manage to play regularly for Scarborough but not now ? Is it because his body was younger then ? You clearly have some knowledge on this type of thing Limerick

Also a sufferer. I'd play a game - no traumatic injury incident during the game but the next day I'd wake up with a sore achilles / knee / hamstring / groin / hip - seemed like just random injuries appearing. Of course, the NHS are not great on these kind of chronic things and 30+ years ago when I was playing hypermobility wasn't really a thing. It was only a casual remark by made by a biomechanics specialist to me a few years ago that caused me to look it up - and realised yes that was me all along. I had to give up playing both football and cricket as I kept wicket and it ended up being agony in all the leg / hip joint systems. It's all about microtrauma in the muscle especially near the tendon as the brain is sending a message - keep that feckin lax joint in place - the muscle overworks and tiny tears lead to scarring tissue and pain.

I'm sure he'll be doing weights to keep strong but not too heavy - you don't want big fat muscles in the middle - that's more weight for the joint to handle, you want long lean wiry muscle to give good strength through the whole range of motion. Pilates type stuff works really well.

As over time you get more micro-trauma points so perhaps that explains where Max is with this at the moment. Let's hope he can at least give us some great impact appearances off the bench.

My niece has it. In her case she doesn’t even need to do any Sport to trigger off attacks. My youngest might be affected to a much lesser degree (double-jointed elbows/shoulder) and some on her mum’s side too. Fortunately although she does a lot of sport/dance she doesn’t suffer much (yet?).

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

Fascinating input here for anyone with the slightest interest in Sports Science/Strength & Conditioning.

My previous thoughts with Max was that he was more a victim of the poor set-up at the club, however with the improvements I'd have hoped he would started to produce more consistency in terms of his availability.  That said, if his issues haven't been addressed for the last god knows how many years, it's unlikely we'll see an instant improvement.

For his sake I hope it can be sorted.  The lad has some serious potential but needs to get going and to do so sharpish.

Thank you for your insight into something I know nothing about. A gold star for you and hope that Max can cope with it, making excellent performances when he can.

I was exactly the same. I’d play on the Sunday, and wake up really wrecked on the Monday especially after resting in the RNA club, the dollie and dominics. Maybe I over did it walking between them
