He's always been the same, can't string 2 games together with pulling something.

I saw a lot of him during his loan at Boston and he handled bad pitches and 2 games in a week there.

We need to get to the bottom of it and it really is a shame.

I wouldn't write him off that quickly, lots of players of his age suffer with a spate of injury problems whilst their bodies are transitioning from being a youth to a man.

He’s 23. Not an 18 year old kid from the Youth team

Worth remembering that this is something beyond his control. If you think it's frustrating then imagine how he feels with the prospect of his livelihood being in jeopardy. He's a very good footballer and from my brief interactions a very good lad. We can't carry someone playing 10 games a year but I really hope they sort it for him and us.

Adrian Forbes was exactly the same, i suspect that we even with the best medical support in the world that he will struggle, i really, really hope i'm wrong but can see him being absolutely outstanding in conference north when he can play part time

I didn't realise he was 23, thought he was about 20-21. He's shot up quick

Hurst did say something pre or post Wrexham match about Max being a complex character, maybe he's one of those players who is hyper-sensitive about every minor tweak/pain they feel and has become over paranoid about sustaining another long term injury so rules himself out of games?

Unless it was a clear cut medical issue, I'd personally still give him a bit more time than this season to see if the issue can be overcome, as he does have the potential to be very good. I think I read that Scott McTominay suffered with injuries for a good few years before he suddenly grew into his body properly and then at 23-24 burst through into a regular starter. Not saying Max is in that class of player, but we can't be paying him loads, he's local and has talent, so I'd at least offer another season - maybe heavily incentivised to appearances, if it's a mental barrier rather than a physical issue then that would maybe focus the mind to get over it.

There was a point, in the season before last, when I felt the first team was relying on Max as the only one who could conjure up a bit of magic.

Possibly true, at the time. It seemed like he'd become a key player.

Sadly he's gone backwards in the two years since, mostly through rotten luck with injuries. He played a lot of football at Boston and was too good for that level. We know he has the potential to be a great player at this level.

I just hope he catches a break as we'll all benefit from that.

Fenty would have had him at King George’s

Let’s get behind the lad as he’s got no shortage of ability, he just needs a bit of luck.

I bet none of us is as pished off with this run of injuries as Max himself. Best if the pressure is i off him and he comes back in good time.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.
