Light drizzle at the moment. Do we have covers?

'I walked in the dressing room. The window was open and I thought that a sea fret had got in. Then I saw smoke billowing from a pipe in the corner of the room...it was my centre-forward. He looked seven stone wet through. He went on to score thirty-odd goals that season.' Lawrie McMenemy on encountering the legend that was Matt Tees.

We do have covers but they are for keeping the frost off and as far as I'm aware aren't designed to be water proof....
Can only hope all the work during the closed season on the pitch and the fact we've not had a lot of rain decently will mean it drains well.
Rains due to ease around 6 and move away by 8pm..
Wondering if we may see a delayed kick off (pushed back to 8.30) rather than full postponement if the pitch is water logged.

Let's hope that the covers keep some of the rain at bay? Otherwise there could be a decision to be made if it belts down all day.

5Live saying a month’s worth of rain expected today for the Humber and Lincs region. If that’s over the course of the day we might be ok but if it’s in one go in late afternoon then maybe not. We’ll see won’t we but I’ll be bringing a waterproof.

Just started to rain in Old Clee as I was about to set off for my daily walk.

Said I about an hour before that Carabao Cup game against Derby the other season...

Fingers crossed we don't see another evening of biblical rain like that though.

Will they have blokes on it all day with those rollers that you push around and they collect water and then you tip it off the side? If they can be on it right from the start of the rain hopefully it will be enough to get the game on fingers crossed. I'm really really looking forward to this one so will be gutted if its off.

We are in the Midlands and planning to travel up this afternoon. It is monsoon conditions here, like a two hour long cloud burst.

It's easing now but heading towards Grimsby. Get those covers on!

Really hope the game goes ahead.

Remember one game when there was no green grass just mud. Mick Brolly went in for a sliding tackle, missed and went sliding by the man with the ball. He then stood up and was covered with dripping mud from head to foot. He just got on with the game !!

Depends how bad the rain is and how much there is, tipping down for a few hours shouldn't be too much of an issue? In Surrey so no idea myself..

It also depends on how good the drainage is now and how the covers work, would think the work done in pre season will be useful. I'm sure if there's any possibility it goes ahead, it will as the club will do/have done everything it can.

Yes, another good one.

The BBC has occasional thunderstorms from 1900 hrs onwards, with the rain tailing off during the match.  They will look at the forecast and take this (reasonably good news) into account when reaching a decision.

Fingers-crossed.

I really don't want to be Captain Obvious but it's the ref's decision and it will be based on how much water is standing on the pitch when he (assume it's a he) looks at it. If the covers are on there'll probably be very little standing water. Game on.

The board know how important momentum is. We've sold out tonight, are in form and Wrexham aren't firing on all cylinders. Factor all of that in and everything will be done to ensure that pitch is playable.

A couple more occasions like tonight from a sell-out point of view and investments start paying for themselves.

I've seen someone mention that the glass Findus barrier is potentially paid for tonight.

Stockwood has told us all that we don't need a new stadium if we can't fill BP. Well, it only took 3 games for us to do that. I'm sure they will be discussing the possibility of temporary seating if things continue. Small things like opening up the area near the Directors Box make a huge impact. I don't know how many seats it is they have released in that area but they are making sure we don't look at a sold out Findus and spot a sea of red corporate seats.

I don’t think it’s particularly dramatic to suggest 7 hours of continuous rain puts the match in serious jeopardy. We saw games at Exeter and Barrow called off for less last season.

I really really hope it isn’t and the pitch holds up, but it’s got to be in some doubt if it continues all afternoon

I don’t think it’s particularly dramatic to suggest 7 hours of continuous rain puts the match in serious jeopardy. We saw games at Exeter and Barrow called off for less last season.

I really really hope it isn’t and the pitch holds up, but it’s got to be in some doubt if it continues all afternoon

i think the statement

" surely its going to be off"  was extremely dramatic

Just started to rain in Old Clee as I was about to set off for my daily walk.

Guess the sprinklers st BP won't be needed today.

Why do clubs use sprinklers at half time ?

With the predicted heavier rain bursts that we are due to have in the next few years, maybe its time for the club to invest in full pitch covers.

If I'm not mistaken the high tide coupled with heavy rain use to affect the pitch drainage. Thankfully the low tide is 6.05 pm so this should help any drainage problems.

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

If he does go in their end, please advise him not to wear a sheepskin jacket. He may get more than he bargained for 😉

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

My garden is terrible for flooding and it's fine so I think a managed, drained pitch should be coping fine. Bar a torrential downpour between now and kick off we will be fine I reckon. PHEW!

I went down to the ground to pick up my programme and the gates between the Pontoon and Findus were open. Pitch looked fine. No standing water. Covers by the side of the Findus and in the penalty areas.

Rain really easing off here in Cleethorpes now.

Wish they'd put more buses on when there's a game/big crowd at BP, surely they'd pay for themselves and some.

Rain really easing off here in Cleethorpes now.

Wish they'd put more buses on when there's a game/big crowd at BP, surely they'd pay for themselves and some.

To be fair there must be a bus every 5 minutes from Clee going past Towns ground

Don’t know what all the fuss is about…shorts and T-shirt on, having a nice cold fruity cider in the garden here in West Sussex, not a cloud in the sky, waiting for the game £10 each way Waterfall to score, 33/1

Bring it on

Are we any closer to getting promoted since Hurst has been here? No

Has he been given time to achieve promotion by the chairman and fans? Yes

You’re betting on the first goal scorer, if waterfall had scored the first goal it would of been 33/1 each way covers him scoring anytime at 1/3 of the odds 11/1

Worth mentioning the condition of the pitch last night, I thought it looked great, played well and didn’t appear to cut up.

Was that due to an overreaction to yesterday’s weather or the investments in the irrigation system? Probably a bit of both in truth, but it does make you wonder whether somewhere in a parallel Fentyverse that game doesn’t go ahead? What a huge amount of money, engagement and momentum might have been lost.

Marginal gains.

Warm dry weather last night in and around the ground.  The aquaplaning on the M62 was more dangerous than Wrexham were.
