I feel Fox may have been one of our covid cases, expected to see more of him after an excellent debut and pre season.

Come on Town!

Do you think? A left back, a centre mid, 2 wingers and an untried 18 year old striker (because we have no one else)? We also have no other defenders available. Bare bones pretty much.

I was thinking bare bones too, especially defensively without Shaun and Longe-King
Big test today, I never enjoy playing Gary Johnson teams but hoping for a win

Ryan Sears?

Looks a strong starting 11 to me, and a strong bench too.

I see Revan as more of an attacking full back and he has played on the wing for us. Wright and Bapaga offer pace and directness out wide. Then you've got Essel who is a striker with Fox probably the most defensive minded sub.

Admit it's bare bones and probably enforced. Realistically Taylor must be a doubt for Tuesday and/or next weekend with his unborn baby being overdue too.

Two 18 year olds and a 19 year old, all essentially untried in senior football. I hope they all come good too but you can't say it's a strong bench.

I can’t say it’s a strong bench? I just did.

I think, when you factor in the players we have out injured, you see what a good job Hurst has done, in my opinion, in assembling a strong squad with the right number. Looks right to me. Agree with him and most others that you need 4 centre backs, he’s sorted that, and we’ll get another striker at some point. All good I reckon.

Is that Becauee more recently they’ve been cloggers and kickers? Playing a dire style of play…

No, not reasonably. Saw enough of Bapaga against Barnet to think there's a player there but we don't know with any certainty, same with Revan and Essel. Nice to have the numbers to cover for Grant and Scannell being injured but I think it's wishful thinking to describe that bench as strong. It's what we have though and I have optimism that if they come on they'll do a good job. Not often Hurst signs a dud.

I reckon, at this level, and with 4 big players out, to see the quality/pedigree of Revan, and Bapaga and the quality/experience of Fox, with Max Wright who nearly always makes an impact, with an evidently exciting/promising unknown quantity kid, that I’m more than happy with the strength of that, personally.

Good teams don't give away stupid free kicks in dangerous areas. Coke hasn't looked anything like the player he did last season so far - needs to step his game up and stop doing silly things like that.

Come on, it's only a few mins into the game, we pulled 3 back last week. Onwards and upwards, we can still win.

Gary Johnson always has a knack of getting one over us, I can opnly think of a couple of a couple of victories against his teams over the years, and they have 2 very experienced strikers in Danny Wright and Dan Holman so it was always going to be a difficult test.

Just thinking about Torquay last week, they were 4 - 0 up and only managed to win 4 - 3 after shipping in 3 goals in the 2nd half. We're still in it.

That won't do much for Torquay's morale, another defeat for them on the way and a win for Town.

Good teams don't give away stupid free kicks in dangerous areas. Coke hasn't looked anything like the player he did last season so far - needs to step his game up and stop doing silly things like that.

The town commentary cutting out and then the Scunthorpe one coming on in its place seems ominous. Hope they get that sorted out at half time

Signed on loan from Bristol City on Thursday

Or Bristol Rovers if you work for Devon Live 😆

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

Seems early to sub Hunt unless he has cramp, especially as Coke has struggled to last 90 since his illness.

Probably thinking about the game on Tuesday night, and Fox is a v solid midfielder so makes sense from a fitness management perspective.

He gets criticism about his distribution and ability to deal with crosses, not his reflex saves (which are his best attribute by far).

'I walked in the dressing room. The window was open and I thought that a sea fret had got in. Then I saw smoke billowing from a pipe in the corner of the room...it was my centre-forward. He looked seven stone wet through. He went on to score thirty-odd goals that season.' Lawrie McMenemy on encountering the legend that was Matt Tees.

Fantastic fans!

This in spades

'I walked in the dressing room. The window was open and I thought that a sea fret had got in. Then I saw smoke billowing from a pipe in the corner of the room...it was my centre-forward. 7 goals in 8 days even without a new striker.  Character shown with coming back from 3 goals down in last 2 games.

Fabulous support all game from the fans today.  Safe long journey back.

Onwards, upwards and bring on Wrexham.  We will show them that there are more key elements in a team than expensive mercenaries.  A good time to play them with our tails up.

Why? Apart from conceding an early goal and Macca having his goaline save we pretty much out played them for 90 mins, played entertaining attacking football and scored a handfull.

When I saw the lineup today I had a good feeling about the game and the lads fully delivered.

Coke, Waterfall, Efete and Clifton especially stood out today. Sounded like Taylor is getting fit and playing how Hurst said he can play.

I've always said I'm a realist I'll call out a bad performance and praise a good one and today we dominated against a good side away from home.

I don't mind Roy Keane making £60,000 a week. I was making the same when I was playing. The only difference was I was printing my own - Mickey Thomas

When I was a teen I used to collect war Magazines.  I remember a chapter that said, "The single most important factor in war is morale"  Just look at the photos of the team.  The energy, the furore of the players when another scores is incredible.  Last week the player elation at Hunt's goal was sublime.  It was not just a winning goal.  It was the manner of the goal and it was Hunt's. They were so made up for him. Their behaviour looked selfless. Keep that up and we will be unstoppable.  Pleased for Giles Cole and Congrats to Pearson.  Can you buy black and white nappies Shaun?

All credit to Luke Waterfall for me, many would of not had him here this season but PH kept faith and he’s repaid him ten fold. One of our best players in the first few, don’t think I’ve seen him lose a header but the biggest improvement I’m seeing is him on the ball and his reading off the game. He was very suspect of hopelessly punting it down there centre half’s throat but taking care of it a lot more and forming a nice partnership with Efete, going to be hard for DLK or SP to get back in. He’s also a huge threat from set pieces, which we looked like we’d score from every time today.

Depends on him I'm guessing he's legally allowed 1 or 2 weeks isn't he and the club have never seemed to rush anyone back have they

Why....I will tell you. Because in going a goal behind early at Stockport you used the phrase "typical Hurst defensive balderdash" almost immediately. You try to be clever but in reality your not and write utter sh1te mostly. Hence the cumulative red crosses for the Madeley's I guess.

I think they where a good side at this level last season but 19th in the NL would suggest they’ve dropped off a bit. Any 3-1 league win away is a great result IMHO.

Must say I'm surprised at our start to the season. Had it not been for the ref at Stockport, we would be looking at 4 wins out of 4.

I expected us to start steadily and improve as the season progressed, but we are exceeding my expectations at the moment. Got plenty of more players to come back and add to the strength of the squad and obviously, another striker at some point.

Two of last seasons stronger sides played, both away from home and four points gained from them.

First big test at home on Tuesday. Can't wait to see how we do.

I wasn't wrong, it was a typical Hurst defensive display (which we had seen over a number of seasons), did we not spend the first 45 minutes of that game sat far too deep, defending our own 6 yard box against Stockports waves of attack while we boringly hoofed the ball back to their CBs and Goalkeeper, nearly conceding two goals (thank god for their striker also doing the defending for us with his standing leg both times). Second half we immediately attacked and scored (albeit corssed off) and looked and entertaining side which pinned Stockport in their own area pretty much for the next 45 minutes (which I also commented on) I even said by the end of that game it was points dropped by us and a lucky draw for Stockport, because we could of won it in the end.

I will always happily praised good football and will always call out crap football. I can unstand a number of the happy clappers can't accept any sort of negativity (even when fully deserved), because they think Hurst and the club excrement rainbows and unicorns.

I stand by my position of if you accept mediocrity you will get mediocrity (and we've had plenty of that over recent years), thats why I hold the club to higher standard then it seems a number of here do, because I want my club to be the best club.

Respectfully remembering what day it is - going to the home of Fawlty Towers and getting 3 points will do me.

Superb result. Great start to the season with more to come you would think. Big test on Tuesday against a team who will be spending comfortably more than double what we are this season. Let's hope for a big turnout, these lads deserve our support!

Been hugely impressed with Paul Hurst's interviews since start pre-season - comes across as a master of his material - such a change from the first half of last season...

Yes and thanks for your report too. Add to that John Paul Pitman's debut as co-commentator and we have an excellent picture of the match. That said, it's no substitute for being there and I'm glad I took the plunge and got a Maidenhead ticket.

Anyone who hasn't seen the 'new' Town, and lives within range of Blundell Park, get yourselves there on Tuesday!

I’ve got Maidenhead & Bromley tickets and really looking forward to it as I couldn’t make today & Stockport.

I think if the positivity on and off the pitch continues strong home gates will also continue.

I’d be surprised if Forza was actually at the match - judging by the references to watching replays of goals - unless Torquay United do have a big screen replaying Grimsby goals.
For myself - just realised I will be in Cleethorpes on Tuesday night - so ….
Last time was at the Racecourse Ground when Rodman scored a thirty yarder

I was there on that memorial occasion Glen Downey scored and won the match either New Years Day or Eve can't remember.

How do you know Forza is a male? The Twitter goal is after the game finished.
5-0 to Abdul 😀

Noticed you didn’t confirm that you are male 😉

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.
