If you mean our new owners, they are both lifetime supporters of GTFC, so I don't think it's a case of they have to watch.

Shocking pass by Longe-King, leaves Hyde 1 on 1 with Braithwaite. Lovely finish by their forward as Battersby was out of position as he umed and ared about coming out.
Todays attendance 380. No nunber for how many town fans.

All the young lads we've got playing and Battersby look well off the required standard. As I type they've just missed a sitter for their 3rd. Only real positives so far have been the two chances that Adlard fluffed, both really should have been in the back of the net. Spokes started brightly but has faded since they scored. Revan has shown a few attacking flashes but you can tell he's only had a couple of days training with us since the understanding with his teammates isn't there yet.

I've seen a bit of that level over the last couple of years. There are some very good teams that are full-time with very good budgets like South Shields and FC United but the average Step 7 team is still some way off competing at our level.

Half time. We've been poor. Defence looks disjointed and lost. Midifeld while getting the ball forward well are struggling defensively. Strikers aren't getting any real service.
The young lad Braithwaite looks out his depth, his touch and passing have been poor and hes being bullied by their no.8. Scannel is clearly hurt hurt, everyone was down the tunnel and he'd barely got over the touchline, Fox and a couple others came out and carried him off.
Revan looked very tentative in the first 15 but hes settled and their no.7 is knackered already which really helps him out. Adlard has grown into the game as well just his touch letting him down. I'm sure Essel moves at the speed of light, blink and hes moved 30 yards down the pitch.
And of course Clifton is everywhere like normal every attack, every break he is covering everywhere.

Between those that find it utterly absurd that we are 2-0 down at half time to Hyde and those that are trying to justify the level Hyde play at as an excuse, we have just been on a week long training camp training twice a day and this morning. The legs will be shattered and this is an exercise in fitness, not football.

Scannell has had a dreadful injury record before he joined us. Probably PH is checking to see if he can drag out a final contribution of what is probably still a big pay check. If not we can pay him off and move on.

Nobody's exactly overreacting are they? Dunno where all the complaints about that are coming from. We've got a bunch of YTs and backups on the pitch and we've still managed to carve out a few decent goalscoring chances. Only real difference between the sides is that they've been more clinical and have a bit more guile in midfield than us.

This is a valid point. I was covering Scunthorpe v Burton last week. Scunthorpe thought winning 2-1 was decent but the Burton media guy was saying that the Burton team had been worked extremely hard the day before, also had a session that morning and they were doing weights pitchside when they got substituted! The Scannell injury is obviously a concern. There is definitely a player in there but it seems that nobody can keep him fit for 5 minutes.

I remember when Akpa Akpro scored 4 goals in a 12-1 win away at Winterton for our last pre-season game of 09/10. Barry Conlon scored a hat-trick that day too and we all know how that season panned out.

Nobody's exactly overreacting are they? Dunno where all the complaints about that are coming from.

I remember when Akpa Akpro scored 4 goals in a 12-1 win away at Winterton for our last pre-season game of 09/10.
Barry Conlon scored a hat-trick that day too and we all know how that season panned out.
Those 2 were our joint top scorers that season

No.10 left completely alone on their corner, no one picking him up at all fortunately his touch was shocking and put the ball straight out of play

And there in lies the reason why many aren’t that arsed… Lincoln lost by a bajillion to Boston…teams lose to excrement teams in pre season, it’s annoying but it happens. Hardly worth getting stressed about, we on every game back in 2009/10 didn’t we? That ended well…

Pre-season friendly- exactly what it says, all about gaining fitness levels, trialling players/formations/youngsters etc - no points involved, anyone that gets aggrevated about results in pre-season should seriously consider distancing themselves from computer games and the premier league - PH can look at what's been on offer tonight and I'm pretty sure will assess what he's seen and make decisions accordingly - just relax!

We’re fielding a weak team out of a squad that has trained solidly for a week. Very few of tonight’s starting eleven will start at Bromley.

Friendly, training, kick about, call it what you like, it has been a really poor performance and some of the players out there don't look like the quality we need to get back into the EFL.

What's the point of preseason games if you don't bother to compete
It’s to improve fitness. To try out players to see if they can play other than their preferred position. To try different formations. To put into practice routines from training. To try out trialists etc Of course we’d love to win. But actually, pre season isn’t all about results.

These games give management a good view of squad options if first teamers are injured.
Get serious at the Bromley kick off time - that is when it counts !!

We don't normally train on a match day and I'm guessing the team worked hard all week without their usual day off so it was going to give us a disadvantage tonight but it's about Bromley away on the 21st and the games that follow it.

If Hurst was that bothered about winning this game, he would have put out a stronger side. The likely first team starters were probably winding down from a weeks hard graft.
Depends what stage of prep both teams are at and you can bet Hyde took it a lot more seriously than we did.
Results dont matter much at this stage.

Got back a bit ago, twice as quick as going. Had some decent possession, Most Hyde players seemed a bit quicker both in thought and pace. None of the younsters that started or came on as subs are quite ready for first team football. Ghoundry is like a giant and quite quick with a big lolloping stride. Essel is really quick and like a Duracel bunny on speed. Outplayed in midfield their number 4 ran through us several times. Efete strong and powerful when he came on but playing at left back. Finished game with 5 youths/1st yr pros on the pitch and lost shape. Generally some decent football and a good workout but missed having a real striker for the 2 or 3 chances we created and could have conceded more but for their wasteful shooting (not sure Battersby had make a proper save other than the goals). As for Scannell, injured without being tackled again, waste of a wage.

I apologies to our lads who have been on an arduous training camp at a spa somewhere in Cheshire. But it seems we were outplayed by a bunch of hard working electricians/ plumbers/carpenters etc who knocked off early for a kick about.

Hurst didn't pull his punches about the younger players and gave them no excuses. He expected a win and pointed out that the younger players are either in or around the first team squad. Neither did he use this week's session at the 'spa' as an excuse for having no energy, nor the pitch. His main concern was for the injuries picked up along with the 2 we already have. It's good to hear his expectations of a win every time Town play and not put up with 2nd rate performances; however, as he said it's pre-season matches. I didn't realise we needed international clearance for the new keeper. I think Adlard missed a very good chance and didn't do himself any favours for the immediate future. Tuesday it's Alfreton, another outing for what I assume will be a changed team for another pre season friendly and hopefully a win.

I didn't go but I did listen to it and I did watch the interview and the brief highlights on the YouTube channel.
It is only pre season and the starting 11 yesterday is not going to be anywhere near close to our starting 11 in the league.
Adlard will be very disappointed with the chances he missed, it's terrible technique on both occasions and I'm sure he knows it.
A slight concern is that is our back 4 yesterday of Sears, Pearson, Longe - King and Revan could certainly be the same back 4 that starts a league game and they got turned inside out by Hyde, of course we must remember behind them they never had a senior keeper and in front of them they didn't have an experienced midfield.
Starting to pick up injuries which is a bigger concern as Hurst said. Still pre season, still a long way to go and plenty more players to sign ( might be a few more with the injuries)

Whilst it may only be a pre season game, getting fitness, understanding etc it is worrying that parts of what played tonight are almost currently our second choice/ reserves players. It was similar against Rotherham, starting 11 looked pretty competitive, as soon as we made just 3 or 4 subs we were into the youth. Tonight starting squad was weaker and again the depth of quality not there.
I can sort of understand why people would call for Rose, William's etc as if we are still paying them why not use them ? Obviously Hurst has his reasons but with more injuries tonight then an already challenged squad gets more, Hurst stated he would have liked to have brought Macatee on but clearly in his mind he is currently the only fit central forward at the club so doesn't want to risk losing him in a meaningless game.

Looks like we dont have much strength in depth with a few senior players being frozen out. I suspect we will be wanting them out the door asap so we can replace them with more experienced players, but if we get a few more injuries, we could be starting the season with a few of the less senior pros in and around the team.
Hurst is clearly not going to bring any of Jackson, Rose, Williams etc back into the fold unless he really has to. He's stubborn that way. Hope it doesn't cost us as we need to get off to a good start, but I reckon it will take a while longer yet for him to build the squad he envisages and get the players he doesn't want out of the door.
We certainly need more attacking options before the season starts.

Always funny when fans clamour for players to come in when one per season game is a bit excrement…between Rose and Williams we saw the grand total of one may be two good games…
Players in Hyde’s side take games against clubs like town as serious as possible, it’s a shop window opportunity in some respects.
The over reaction from some town fans is ducking brilliantly entertaining though…

Just suppose we started off playing crap but had someone up front who snaffled a couple of half chances in the first 10 minutes. Totally different game then isn't it?
To me it seems we are playing on the edge, on the nerves even, because one mistake is trouble and two means we’re dead. As long as we have nobody up front or wherever who can give us that buffer of a goal or two start so those young players can relax a bit and knock the ball around without being scared stiff we are going to have some problems.

Anyone clamouring for those relegation squad rejects to come back in needs their head read, 92 out of 92 we finished. Our senior players, particularly those with a decent playing history were diabolical last year, if Rose, Williams et all had played to their potential then we wouldn't be down here right now.

Its interesting how posters that went report we weren't very good and people red cross them (I know it is now illegal to say anything in the tinyist bit not positive about us) then the manger who is also there pretty much says the same thing and even gave some of the players a b0ll0cking for their performance. Its utterly hilarious.

Surely, as a fan it’s actually refreshing to hear a manager call out his side in a pre season game and not respond with some bullshit sound bites?

Calm down everyone. Take a deep breath and realise this is just a run out
On the plus side - Number 9 incoming and about to get the fountain pen and blotting paper out of the top drawer
So has anyone worked out this clue yet. My head is aching with trying.

Lots of “interesting” stuff and opinions on here🙇♀️
The strength in depth thing is clearly a challenge by the looks of it but then again how many non league sides actually have a decent 2nd string?

It’s staring you in the face when you think about it. Blotting paper? ... blot on the landscape starred David Jason. He played Delboy in only fools and horses. Delboy’s brother, Rodney, was played by Nick(y) Lyndhurst. Fountain pens? They need ink. At school quink ink always reminded me of the colour of black wine gums. The best wine gums are made by Maynards. Welcome Nicky Maynard. 😉

Lol, I would have problems with him being described as a 'marquee signing'.
