I can’t get my head around this story at all. 150,000 dead during a public health crisis and he (might (big might)) get sacked as Health Secretary for nobbing some woman he’s given a load of money to. This country is broken and people need to wake up to it before it gets a lot worse.
Transpires that he knew her from his university days and gave her a job which comes with a £15,000 salary for 15 to 20 days work a year. No wonder she was snogging him.
Makes me laugh that he is being criticized for breaking social distance rules and the fact they were going at it in a government building and both are married with kids seems to be a side issue. Ditto the cronyism going on.
He's said he's very sorry though and that makes the matter closed according to Bojo.
This corrupt lot sicken me, yet some of you fools keep on voting them in and defending them.
Her brother is a director of a health company that won NHS contracts. Can’t imagine that was an easy brother/sister conversation where he convinced her to go through with it for the sake of his bank account.
Boris can’t sack him for this. He did the same thing, allegedly*, with that American iT woman.
* or was it proven ?
Through the door there came familiar laughter, I saw your face and heard you call my name. Oh my friend we're older but no wiser, For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.
It’s that awkward and that far fetched he probably could have got away with the ‘deep fake’ excuse.
It’s got a sort of Blue Jam vs Kilroy-Silk quality to it...
Fuckthat! It wants me to prove my age by giving my credit card details or a photo ID card. Can you do a cartoon strip so I can get a sense of the video?

Then in his eyes he has been loyal to his staff but had to get rid so the public can say at least he did the right thing in the end.
We are not daft Boris has no morals and will do and say anything if it puts him in a good light ( in his eyes ) with the voters.
Two corrections Pete.
1/ Bozza got rid of Cummings when his wife stamped her feet, not because of a public outcry.
2/ People are daft. They voted for him despite his track record of lying. I’m still waiting for him to lay down in front of the bulldozers at Heathrow. He promised that to the voters of Uxbridge (the gullible twits). And he told the nation there would be no border between NI and GB, yet signed up to just that. He lost his job at the Times (hardly a leftwing rag) because he was caught out telling deliberate porkies in an article.
Max Hastings, again no pinko member of the “woke brigade” wrote, "There is room for debate about whether he is a scoundrel or mere rogue, but not much about his moral bankruptcy, rooted in a contempt for truth,"
Yet still people vote for him. And you say ‘we are not daft’. Folk must be crooned themselves then.

As you know I'm not red or blue. I far as this is concerned more Tory sleaze, it just seems neverending.
The morality of our politicians died decades ago and has been replaced with their own selfishness. To hell with the country, the population, my family as long as I'm alright.

It’s becoming more and more apparent that we’re unlikely to see an end to this mess, not because Covid will linger, as do most virus’s but because there’s a whole raft of folk making themselves very rich out of it at the expense of the tax payer…
I couldn’t give a excrement who Matt Wanksock puts his member in to, however, I do care who he hands contracts for services which barely perform to…
This should be the public outcry. That is why folk should be protesting but as we’ve seen more recently, people just seem a little too dosile…
'the poor and the needy are selfish and greedy'...well done Mozza
I think people are protesting against the wrong things. All these complaints about being locked down and anti-woke culture are distractions from the corruption at the heart of government. We’re being robbed blind.

If the mail is right then who is bugging government offices and why have our supposed security services done nothing, or missed it? What other information, secretive or not, has been leaked apart from Hancocks' dirty deeds behind his wife's back?
Of course, if The Mail is up to mischief then Hancock would have known about the camera and probably thought he was safe because of his ministry position. Which raises another point if this is the case, who is leaking photos of a senior government office, and have they been spying?
Too many questions and I fear that there will be no truthful answer. Our national security is up the creek with no paddle and no canoe, and the raft is sinking.

Knowing this government, our national security has probably been outsourced to a Panamanian paramilitary group which Priti Patel’s personal trainer is a non-exec director of.
He may have resigned but it doesn't change the security issues. Also did he jump, or was he pushed? Again too many questions and we will not get any answers.

Probably sanctioned by Boris to take the heat off himself and get rid of Hancock whom he labelled "totally fuck1ng useless".
So he’s resigned not because he broke the rules but because he got caught breaking the rules.
Let’s not forget handing out contracts to his floozy.

Unlike you I could not vote for Labour with the leader they had.
The next election I might vote for Labour again but they have to get their act together.
You should vote for policies and principles, not personalities.
I have no idea how anyone can flip flop between the Tories and the Labour party. I also have no idea how you can criticise Corbyn, yet think that twit Boris is worth your vote.

That's democracy I suppose.
Well if you vote for personalities. rather than policies and principles then you deserve what you f**king get, c**ts!
I did and still will until Starmer actually tells us what he stands for instead of spending all his energy just having a go at the Tories. Then maybe I will consider voting Labour again.
When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

You can vote for someone else you know? It's not just Tory or Labour. Why would you vote for the Tories again given the absolute mess the country is in, the horrific way they've handled the pandemic and the blatant corruption where billions of OUR money is being handed out to their mates for nothing in return? I suppose some still have that old serf mentality that those from a richer background and who talk in a plummy voice must know better than we do and therefore us plebs should keep them in power.

Because they are the only major party that respected my vote when I voted to leave in the EU Referendum.
When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”
Fair enough. Ireland says thanks for their first-ever trade surplus with the UK, by the way.
As for Hancock, his usefulness as a human shield to deflect the flak from the rest of the government has obviously come to an end. Hence the 'leak' of incriminating photos from 6 weeks earlier to a government-friendly rag. Why, it's almost as though there is some sort of collusion going on between the government and parts of the media! Who'd have thunk it?
Nobody will be sad to see Hancock go. We already knew he's 'Totally f*cking hopeless' as Johnson himself apparently said about 15 months ago, which rather begs the question as to why he was left in a role to which he was so unsuited during such an unprecedented public health emergency? I suppose some of the other options in cabinet would have been even worse but being slightly less excrement than somebody else isn't exactly a glowing reference. I wonder how much his friends and family have coined from the public purse during the past 15 months? Would be interesting to see.
I have voted for both red and blue and feel let down every time because they don't do what they promise in their manifesto.
It is absolutely amazing that no government (either colour) has brought out a law to say the manifesto pledges should be made law if that party wins an election. Then again turkeys don't vote for Christmas.
Incidentally, last time around I voted for Boris, not because I thought he would a good Prime Minister but he was the only one who said he would take out of the EU. He hasn't done a brilliant job on that but at least we're out.
My problem now is who to vote for next time, not keen on Boris and I don't know of a credible alternative in either party.

The outcry and concern here shouldn’t be that wanksock fingered his aide, nor should we be arsed that someone leaked the CCTV, after all, we know they’ll all throw each other under the bus.
The outcry should be the billions in contracts to mates and chums that have been handed out, it’s eye watering and disgraceful…mind boggling that people still think the odd person that won’t have a vaccine is an issue…
'the poor and the needy are selfish and greedy'...well done Mozza
Because they are the only major party that respected my vote when I voted to leave in the EU Referendum.
I really don’t want to get dragged into this but: It’s almost as if it was a terrible idea that only benefits a very small group of people. If a group of ten friends were out walking and one wanted to jump off the Humber bridge would you jump?
Politcs has become very similar to football in the sense that whoever it is that you voted for last time can do no wrong and people will support that party no matter what. We’re a very stubborn nation who hate admitting we were wrong. This government have been allowed to get away with everything they have because they delivered Brexit. The consequences of which are going to be minimised by their friendly media (who will also benefit).
Unlike you I could not vote for Labour with the leader they had.
The next election I might vote for Labour again but they have to get their act together.
Couldn’t care less who you vote for in the next election.
Your post just rings a bit hollow now you’ve decided Boris has no morals and says anything just to get his way. Of course he’ll continue to treat people as fools given so many of you mugs voted for it 18 months back! Problem is, we’re ALL suffering because of you, as will future generations.
Seems the Tory knives are really out for Hancock. The Times also reporting that he uses his personal e-Mail account to transact government business. This article focuses on the audit ability aspect. But the other key factor it doesn’t mention is security. Official e-Mail servers will have stronger security than your run of the mill mail. I could get sacked if I used my own e-Mail for company business.

Surely most people are worldly-wise enough to know that rotten apples infest every government; every political party is riddled with them.
In this instance the hypocrisy of Matt Hancock takes some beating, everyone agrees on that, but governments seem to reek of it - at the G7 summit, hypocrisy was in full flow - no social distancing, no masks at private functions, more than 30 people etc, flying in with no self-isolation.
These failures of the human condition, or stupidity, is in modern parlance, "baked in" to a degree when the public cast their vote. Politicians are not gods, they often make the same mistakes as us and a lot more besides.
All governments start off with a fanfare of making the world a better place, only to falter on the altar of hypocrisy or sleaze or financial impropriety, or all three as in this case.
As a conservative, I hope the government gets its act together quickly and re-establishes its authority, but the problem in British politics at the moment is the lack of a credible alternative. The world has moved on and the voters will reject any suggestion of a socialist government - some cynics might argue the current government with its finding of the money tree during this pandemic is the closest we will ever get to a socialist government.
Labour really ought to get its act together soon and find a meaningful purpose before it disappears altogether. It is not good for democracy not to have a credible alternative, and the Conservative party should quickly find some humility and apologise for recent mistakes and get their own house in order.

Having read this, and other posts, I tried to think of the best red and blue prime ministers we have had while I've been alive.
For labour, I'll go back to Harold Wilson (although he sold out to Iceland thanks to the yanks!). I would have liked the late John Smith to have been premier but alas that was not to be the case. Corbyn reminds me of a latter-day Michael Foot.
For conservative it would have to be Maggie, apart from her last tenure when she thought she was the Queen! Nobody comes anywhere near her for them. Too many career politicians with no knowledge of people, just how to massage and manipulate without committing to anything.
To me, they are all on an ego trip for what they can get out of it for themselves which is why I'm neither red nor blue.

Whilst I respect your views DB, I find it hard to understand those who can flit from party to party. I acknowledge I might be somewhat dogmatic, but I have my political ideology and I vote for the individual/party who most closely mirrors it.
I am not fishing for an argument just genuinely interested if you have historically voted for Wilson and then Thatcher?

There is a scripture in the Holy Bible which tells you to obey your elders/leaders which is why I do not belong to any church organisation. I also do not belong to any political group for the same reason, you would have to do as the party wants.
In reality, it is what the majority of a party want, regardless of if it is good for the country or not. You also have extremes taking over when the central rank and file get disillusioned. You also have the money men in the background pulling strings to get 'their man 'in.
Then you see all these career politicians disappear from the front bench politics into the background when they lose. Dummy pram throw comes to mind. Hey, they think I can make oodles of money from memories, tours, you name and give me money I'll be there. They forget principles, morals and what they promised.
To me, today they all merge into a blue/red colour and it's hard to find an upright politician. Then of course they meddle a bit to keep their name to the fore, to enhance that they are not forgotten on the 'circuit'.
Of course, they all do nothing wrong as they ensure that they are just on the right side of the line separating them from prosecution!

I certainly agree that John Smith might be the greatest PM we never had.

It's every person's right to use their vote as they deem fit.
The same old voices on here can not except they are in the minority .
Have a good look round the town and see what Labour have done for Grimsby.
Then come down here and see how much better it is under years of conservative rule.
At least the conservative council are trying to bring Grimsby up to date.
lmao we've had the Conservatives in power since 2010 who've spent all that time massively slashing council budgets. How exactly were Labour councils up and down the country meant to improve things in those circumstances?
Why is it 'nicer' in leafy Suffolk? Because the Tories targeted the biggest cuts towards Labour run urban councils:
Honestly, you can use your vote however you please, but don't come up with nonsense rationale for doing so and expect everyone to just go 'ah yeah right, guess it is all labour's fault then nice one pete and boris'

Tory voters are not the majority. Unfortunately our stupid system means you can get significantly less than 50% of the votes but get significantly more than 50% of the seats.
You lot are saying it's all the Tories fault all I am saying what it's like down here compared to Grimsby.
.
The town like the football ground has been neglected under both the Tories and Labour I am not telling anybody I don't know how you can vote for them or them you use your vote to elect who you want in power.
So please don't tell me how I should use my vote like I said I can change my mind unlike most of you who can only cast your votes one way.
Anyway we have gone through this too many times if you want change you know what to do at the next election and you never know I might agree with you by then.
So it's goodnight from me and up the mariners that one thing we all agree on.

Totally respect your right to vote any way you see fit Pete, and I suspect others would agree with me, in that it's a democracy and everyone is free to use their own ballot paper however they choose.
What some of us can't understand is how anyone, not just yourself, can switch from one political ideology to another based on personality, and to a degree on personal circumstances. I vote for what I believe is the best for everyone, and the leader of that party has no bearing on the bigger picture. Besides, how anyone can castigate Corbyn, then vote for a known liar and philanderer is baffling to me.
I believe that working people would be better off under a Labour government and I simply cannot understand how anyone who works for a living (most of us) think that the Tories have their best interests at heart. They come from a different world to most of us and want to keep that world to themselves at the expense of the majority.
I'll give the Tories enormous credit though for the way in which they have convinced enough people to keep them in power, whilst the blame for all our ills is laid at the door of others. They have been in power for over a decade, yet most folk seem to blame the Labour party and Johnny foreigner for the state of Towns like Grimsby and the recently converted Hartlepool. It's a brilliant con trick from a party of conmen.
You've called me a Communist Pete and I seem to be getting labelled as a Marxist on occasions too. Again, this is a master stroke by the Tories and their press machine, in that they have convinced people that Socialism is a dirty word and anyone that has a left persuasion is somehow a subversive bent on overthrowing the establishment. We're not.
Finally, the Tories got 43 per cent of the vote at the election, yet have the majority of seats in government. That is not the majority of people, but it gives them the majority of the power. This is a fault of the stupid electoral system we have, which they want to keep for obvious reasons. They are also pushing through boundary changes which will favour their party. Let's not forget that Brexit only just scraped through as well, with the vote just favouring leave. Again, the Tories lied massively to swing it in their favour when it looked for all the world the vote was going the other way.
The country is in a mess and who's been in power for 11 years?
Tory voters are not the majority. Unfortunately our stupid system means you can get significantly less than 50% of the votes but get significantly more than 50% of the seats.
Yes you are right and no you are wrong.
The country is in a mess and has been for many decades. After WW2 there was little investment if any mainly because the country was broke financially. After the wartime coalition government, we went back to the old system that served politics for years, but the country had changed and the politicians didn't see it.
Even today they have rose coloured spec about Great Britain but fail to accept we are not Great anymore.
There is no vision for the future, look at roads when they are expanded. Add a lane here and there and when finished they are still congested and not free-flowing.
Housing is a joke, why is it not law for all new homes to have solar panels to meet their needs.
Taxation another joke, Amazon and Co. pay little (throw away perfectly good stock) and the rest of the population support this with our taxes.
What they call communities disappeared years ago with Maggie, Miners, fishermen steelworkers etc. all decimated. Police called in to arrest neighbours who protested, perhaps that is why the police no longer live in the area they look after (supposedly).
Without elaborating on past failures of all governments what does the future hold? The defence of the realm should be first and foremost. A wad of rain-washed papers answering our detailed plans for our navy in the Black Sea. Events that were less than a week old, it's a joke. 2 new Billion-pound aircraft carriers to protect our diminished assets around the world, authorised by Blair and Brown.
Aid to India who has atomic bombs, criticising China while we trade billions of £'s with them. It just goes on and on and covered up with red tape. Scratch the surface it looks awful.
The country is in one hell of a mess and needs a minimum of 10/20 to get out of it. A coalition but who would lead. I have no faith in either Boris or Starmer. Labour front bench, I don't know any of them. Tory front bench Ministers of State - next Joke!
The best way I can describe us as a nation is like having a 26mm hole with a 25mm disc to fix it; with a politician shouting weld it for now we'll do a proper job later!

Nobody’s telling you how to use your vote, just pointing out how laughable it is for you to moan about being treated like a fool having done something incredibly foolish just 18 months back.
As for what has happened to Grimsby, as chrisblor has explained, there’s a direct link between the downturn of places like Grimsby and people in places like leafy Suffolk voting to enact those policies. Still, always someone else’s fault eh?
I’ve not lived in Grimsby for going on 15 years, but in that time a Labour council gave the club a free site off Peaks Parkway to build a ground, but Fenty fcked that up. Then they brought in the Town Deal which is paying for redevelopment across the town. They also approved the Great Coates planning application, and wrote a commitment to relocating the club into the Council’s Core Strategy planning policy. Doesn’t seem like the club have been particularly neglected by anyone other than it’s own board.
My final words on the matter is there is no right or wrong on who you vote for just because it does not agree with your view does not make either of us. right or wrong.
We can differ on certain players who play for Town but what we all agree on is we want our club to be successful.
Regarding politics the country would be in a mess whoever who is in power when a pandemic strikes .
It's how we recover from it is the main thing most voters will look at the next election.
So Labour might have a good chance to get back in power so don't blow it.
I will cast my vote on what is not only best for me or my family but what I think is best for the country.
Most of the time I think all politicians are only there for themselves there only a few you can trust in what they say and do and that is from all parties.
