Grimsby Town Football Club are pleased to announce the signing of former Wealdstone defender Michee Efete on an initial one-year-deal.
The 24-year-old began his footballing career at Norwich City, gaining valuable experience during loan spells out in Iceland for Breidablik and back home for Torquay United. Following his release from the Canaries in the summer of 2018, Efete went on to represent Maidstone United, Bath City and Billericay, before joining Wealdstone in the summer of 2019.
The following season, Efete's performances helped secure his place in the National League South Team of the Season. The defender's performances continued throughout the 2020/21 campaign, going ot to make a total of 22 league appearances, scoring on one occasion.
Upon hearing of the interest from the Mariners, the 24-year-old wasted no time in making a decision and cannot wait to work under his new manager.
"I am buzzing to get it all done, I just want to get into pre-season and start to play really. I am happy from as soon as I heard Grimsby were interested, it was a no brainer, I just wanted to get in here and get playing.
"The gaffer got in touch about a week ago. Once my agent told me about it, I got on the phone to the gaffer, spoke to him and from then it was a no brainer. I know about the gaffer from before, I know players who have played for him, played against him so I know what type of person he is and what he is about and it matches what I am about in his ambitions and the club.
"He told me about the club and I know players who have been here before like Reece Hall-Johnson, Diallang Jaiyesimi and Rhys Browne, they all told me about the fans and how excellent they are when the place is full and how the place gets rocking.
"He has told me he wants to get promotion, that's the only thing on his mind. He is building a good squad to get there and I want to be a part of that. He has told me he can help me get to that next level, he feels I have got the ability to push on so I just want to get playing under him and just move forward."
"Michee was signed from Wealdstone. There had been quite a lot of interest in him previously from Football League clubs. It was a frustrating season for him last year with COVID and the way in which the League turned out, a situation out of his control but he sees this as an opportunity to come and play games and give him a platform.
"He's a right-back who can also play the right side of centre half or the right side of a three at the back possibly, but he is a very athletic right-back, has a lot of pace, likes to get forward. He has things to work on and improve which we will do a lot of in training but someone who obviously has potential there to improve and go onto bigger and better things, hopefully with us".

I like that he'd been told the only objective is promotion. Sure PH will try to keep fan expectations manageable but I'm pleased the players we're signing have been told we're going for it.
