Not really sure if this is different to a reserves team or not. I haven't really thought about what we might be doing with reserves / Under-23s now that the new owners seem to want to actually give Hurst the ability to do some long-term planning.

It looks like that photo was taken the precise moment Russ Wilcox was told he was losing his job.

if there's one club circling the drain hole it's the scunts. Love to see it.

Well he should be used to it now given that this is the second time they have sacked him

We may have been the ones relegated but I wouldn’t swap Scunnys position for our own right now

That's quite a bold statement, but one you may well be right about in the long-term. We shouldn't underestimate the significance of dropping back into non-league, that in itself is pretty dire. But I suspect the next 6 - 12 months could well be 'interesting' for Scunny.

Isnt his son doing some behind the scenes scouting/ coaching or something?
I would also think that as Swann's philosophy is now about playing their own so what was the u23's will probably turn into the first team squad next season.

By all accounts Scunny had a decent under 23 set-up and a few players who they had high hopes for.  Be interesting to see if, as moosey says, they promote them as their first-teamers for next season or if it's clean sweep approach.

Doesn't look great for them down the 180 that's for sure, I also appreciate the irony of saying that as we're planning trips to Kings Lynn.   Local bragging rights aside, I'd rather not see any of the local teams in the non-league scene.  I've followed Town for 30+ years now and I've never seen a league derby with Hull, I've seen 4 league ones with Scunny (2 via iFollow this season) and a fair amount with Lincoln.   I'd love it if there was a point in the near future where all 4 clubs are in the same league fighting at the top.

Local rivalries are what makes football special, that little bit more special for us as the real fans.  I don't think the Man Utd duvet brigade really get that from the derby games with City.  You can't beat that extra bit of needle in the week building up, jokey conversations at work but really laced with the undertone of 'I flipping hate your lot, more so this week'.  Knowing that if you win on Saturday it's going to be glorious on Monday morning, if you lose it's gonna be hell.

Growing up I saw Sheff Weds and Barnsley as our rivals as they were at our level.  Then of course there was the West Brom period.  But largely we've been starved of a true rivalry that has meant something for bloody ages.  2005/06 when both us and Lincoln were in the play-offs was as close as it came.  But it was only towards the end of that season we were battling for similar places, we always had an eye on the top 3 and they were always aiming for top 7.  We've never, this season aside, really battled for a spot with Scunny in donkeys years.  Hull we've just bypassed one way or another.

The Cheltenham, Stevenage, Gateshead sagas weren't rivalries to me.  They were just teams we were battling for promotion with or they were just bellends.  I truly hope we're back in the league sharpish and able to start some of those real rivalries that we all love.

Given the choice, I would much rather be circling the drain hole than down the frigging thing.

Yeah, Swann junior is head of recruitment. Neil Coz chose him because he’s the best person for the job though. Not because of his dad.

That Jem Karacan was the centre midfielder wasnt it ? He was all over the midfield when we played them , looked a cut above and very cute on the ball and off it ,  no suprise he is moving on.

the 2 obvious ones for me are Van Keen and Abou Eisa , both of whom Hurst knows well and would surely be quality players in non league

Van Veen's an interesting one. Hurst initially froze him out and he only made one league appearance in the first month of the season (the other appearance being the game versus us in the EFL Trophy where he scored two), however after putting him back in the side he went on to score 12 between September and January when Hurst was sacked.

He clearly got something out of him, however I don't know how well his strong Scunny associations would fly round these parts.

Didn’t Junior Brown play for PH at both Shrewsbury and Scunthorpe? We need a left back and he used to be a decent player but believe he suffered some injuries so not sure how he is performing nowadays.

He doesn't immediately strike you as a hurst type player.i actually think we'd take to him, but if he's a drama queen, plus he seems to have had a few injuries
he might be more trouble than he's worth. Eissa however was signed twice by hurst. Got to be a chance that he'd end up here, although 9 goals and 4 assists would suggest there will be a number of interested league 2 clubs

ps Ginger Pig said to be on 4k a week (can that be true?) & Eissa on £1500 p.w. - if that's the salaries they're paying out, no wonder they are in trouble! Mark Howard as an experienced back up keeper doesn't look to cost very much

same site gives an estimate of our salaries for comparison

I've no idea how accurate the actual figures are on that site, but it is there or thereabouts with the few bits I've heard about a few players.  It definitely matches up with the tiered structure that I've heard anyway.

What it does hammer home though is the absolute shocking return we've had this season from the upper echelons of our pay structure.  I'd be genuinely interested to know where the likes of Coke, LJL fit into that and also how much we were paying towards the loans of Matete and Meyanese, or again where they sit in that structure.

The one sure thing is that ink will have dried on new contracts before most of us know about new signings !!
