Not sure about this award but on their web page they put:-

'The Fry Awards 2022 will be open for entry in May when the 10 Best Restaurant category will return too.'

This being the case for restaurants then it looks likes if you didn't enter then you didn't get considered, which is probably the reason so many good chippies are not included.

You can please some of the forumites some of the time but not all the forumites all of the time

It’s the same as those ‘best companies to work for awards.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

Hasn’t this always been a kind of ‘you have to enter, sometimes pay’ to be considered rather than just people being able to nominate etc?

I know elite Chippy which operates across a few places in Lincolnshire claims to win these type of things but pays to enter etc...and it’s flipping dreadful. Used it in sleaford, woman handed me the tray, had one chip and gave her it back. Awful.

Burton Road chippy in Lincoln too, another that promotes itself as ‘award winning’...drivel. There isn’t a good chippy in Lincoln but Burton road isn’t close to being the best of a bad bunch.

And no chip shop that sells those god awful frozen fish cakes with breadcrumbs should be considered...should be an automatic expulsion...

I remember when I was younger that Marklews on Humberstone Road was amazing. Haven’t been in years and years though. Also a chippy used to be an occasional treat which I think added to the taste.

I used to love having a bag of heavily salted and vinegared (blatantly not a word) chips on the seafront sat on a bench or wall. My mum used to say it was the sea air that made the difference and she was right (not scientifically I bet but still).

Still is great, a proper chippy, small menu none of that kebab meat, pizzas or anything just fish, chips, fishcakes, sausages and pies. The fishcakes are the best I've had. I've lived in Mablethorpe (average to crap chippies) for over 30 years but I still go to Marklews as often as I can when I'm in GY.

I've noticed with these lists that they never actually include the really good chippies because basically they don't need it. Most chippies in Grimsby and Cleethorpes are brilliant and it's something you appreciate more when you move away. I was so lucky to have spent my childhood in Grimsby.

And when you fall back into the mud it hurts a lot.
No! None of it was true, none of those things we thought we could see existed at all.
All that was really there was still more misery

The chippy not too far from where I live, Russells in Second Avenue has always been a top chippy. Russell has just recently retired and sold the business on, so hopefully the new owners will keep up the good work.

Not been since Russ left so can't comment on whether they are or not.
