Just a thread to come away from the stress of football and GTFC.. I've just noticed I've been registered to this board for 13 years as of this month!
So many highs and lows... Liverpool, spurs, Burnley (6-5), Peterborough away, Lincoln bike ride, Wembley.... To Burton away, Lincoln 0-5.

Regards the forum the highlight of my 13 years was that Poojah letter

How long have you been registered??

Just over 11 years for me, been on the fishy most days in that 11 years, it’s a great forum with great posters, I’ve actually made friends through this site who I’ve met and keep in touch with regularly.

Top 2 highlights.

1. Getting promoted back to the Football League.

2. Holloway taking the Town job, that went well

Thirteen wonderful years.

In the days of Maccabilk and Icey (RIP).

A brilliant mix of posters from the very "wordy" (80s Glory) to the succinct (FFS).
I too have made some friends on here who have made my life better.
People who "have your back" when times aren't great.
Long may the Fishy continue.

Dec 4 2007. Blimey.
Highlights for me was getting to wear a Town shirt on Sinny Bank even though we lost, (I was definitely fouled) and persuading a few of us to dress up as Mexicans.
Certainly Maccabilk is missed on here as are others.

Batch, Crombie, Moore K, Wiggington, Cumming, Waters, Bonnyman, Ford, Emson, Drinkell, Whymark. Love you all, You are the reason I'm on here. You've had help from Todd, Handyside, Futcher P, Groves, Mendonca, Macca etc etc etc. Up The Mariners!!!!!!!!!

13 years for me. Only came on to stop abuse directed at me over the famous Fowler incident, made by a bald headed jerk who I believe still posts. Highlights for me was promotion and winning the Prediction League in 2017!

I do share my time on The Fishy now with Twitter and Facebook accounts but this is usually my go to for all things Town

Since 2012.

Interesting mixed bag of people on here. Despite differences I think the main thing the forum provides is a love for this football club and the community and source of identity for people who have lived in or have connections to the football club to some degree or another.

July 2011, so coming up 10 years. Not been a bad decade for us has it? Oh wait... 😒 I wonder how much actual time of our lives we’ve all spent on here over the years?

12-13 years met some good friends at games during that time.

Football has been very poor though apart from when we got promoted.

The Liverpool win was in 2001 and that 6-5 Burnley game was in 2002 Luke, so getting on for 20 years ago now, so long before The Fishy even existed I think.

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Yeah but he lost his comedy edge when he went mainstream.

On another note, is there a reason a lot of posters joined in December? I did.

I joined December 2007 and was on The Electronic Fishcake before that. I like this site and check it out virtually every day. It certainly shows a diverse range of views , from the sublime to the ridiculous , but that reflects society in general.

Not long as BlackandWhiteBarmy2. As the one and only original BlackandWhiteBarmy I came over in the wake of the demise of the Electronic Fishcake where I was a star. Then there was the infamous football/non football split, although I can't remember if that was on the Electronic Fishcake or not, anyway that lead to the formation of the Grim Outlook and my departure. I think I then came back but ran into a period when Mr Fenty was sort of vetting the posters and posts and I was denied an invitation. Eventually came back but people said I was obsessed with CHEESE and was spoiling it, I am obsessed by CHEESE but there is no way that discussion of CHEESE can spoil anything. So I left again. Then I rejoined but couldn't remember my old credentials hence the new account.

And when you fall back into the mud it hurts a lot.

On this forum, in this guise 7 years. Was TW Area Town Supporter for a while before that. On the Grimmy before that and the Electronic Fishcake round the turn of the Millennium.

Highlights: football on the pitch Liverpool win. Off it, the Mexican invasion of Barnet/Operation Promotion.

I must be one of the young ones, for a change.

I must say I have thoroughly enjoyed it, different viewpoints, opinions, banter, and a unity ( bar 1 or 2) of Fenty out.

I remember when I created the Fishy I was drunk off with the new look Rivals (which Sky had bought and "redesigned") so I just created the new site and posted about it on the Electronic Fishcake, which Billo kept on running. Almost overnight everyone switched to this which I didn't expect at all, if you look at the first 100 people who registered, over half have made over 1000 posts and 8 over 10000. Only one person in that first 100 never posted, and they've been the bedrock of the site ever since. Many of them are still active.

marinette has the accolade of being the first registered user after me!

The postscript was quite a few of the more popular sites went their separate ways from Rivals/Sky and the whole thing folded not long after.

I seem to recall that the original Electronic Fishcake was just a mailing list, which I joined about age 12 in the late 90s. There might have been a forum running alongside it, I can’t quite remember.

The likes of Billo and Nicko were big contributors in those days. Is Billo still going? Haven’t heard anything of him in a long time.

Funniest thing ever, well it was quite funny. Taking the Wendys with Big Watford Love and the night we humbled the Seattle Mariners with talk of dumplings. The Grimsby Peach Kings a junior hockey team in Canada banned all UK IP addresses because they couldn't take a joke.

Remember that bloody chair link that one of the Watford guys had, The Wendys didn't like it. You basically had to shut down your PC to get rid of it.

And when you fall back into the mud it hurts a lot.

He became a Brexit champion on Facebook where he is still active, I believe, along with KLM (Kings Lynn Mariner) last saw both of them at Wembley 2016.

Funny you should mention 80s Glory. I thought to myself the other day that current poster DB reminds me a lot of 80s and that I wouldn't he surprised if it was the same person. Several similarities. This isn't a pop at DB, i actually liked 80s.

I used to think so but he said he was a Steelers fan but lived in Seattle. Was a retired teacher. Can't remember his user name but strangely enough I remember his real name.

I met him and his missus for a couple of pints when they were in Windsor on a European tour with a Mormon group  (or one of those cults). Odd fish.

Never met him but we had plenty of e-mail correspondence. Think his son played for the Seattle Sounders before the MLS started getting a bit bigger. Neverfound out why he was a town fan though. Takes all sorts.

There's certainly been some great posters on here, like myself! There's some very intelligent posters on here, and a wide range of opinions and a few trolls of course!

There's also been some great posters who are sadly no longer with us such as Icey, and more recently Jock Dock Tower just to name a few, their contributions were welcomed and are sadly missed.

Wow. Shocked I was in that early to be honest....and that prolific.
Now I have seen the list, surely there should be some award for any current poster , who was one of the first 100 and has posted maybe more than ohh let's say 14260 times ?

Highlights in all that time   a bit like LH , got post of the week once...yay....think I also won the caption comp once, used to enjoy that.......both of which mean given the number of posts made means I have a strike rate worse than Matt Green.

@GrimRob - Does the date joined from when the New Fishy was formed or when the Fishy was shut down?

I can remember when re-joining the board, i was scampering around the web sending invites to Ex Fishy members (when the Fishy was back up & running).

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.

It was Grim Outlook. Grim Exile was something far nicer. The clique was from the Electronic Fishcake although I don't think Gymgirl actually joined.

Gymgirl was on the Grim Outlook. I remember meeting up with her and her beau for a pint at Eastbourne during the first season down in the Conference.

And there was Ratchett who stopped going to Town games altogether after not missing a home or away game for something like 14 years.

Who was it who produced the Lumpaldinho tee shirts? They were ace.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

August 12th 2010. Been trading for a good bit before that too.

I was there, the day Bradley Wood scored a 35 yarder!

From the black and white striped shirts
To the fish in the sea
You'll hear us singing
Coz we are Grimsby.

You won't hear us crying
But you'll hear us shout
Coz we are the Grimsby
And this is our chant.......... Grimsby! Grimsby! Grimsby!

I started in the ElectronicFishcake, as TeesinYork.  For some reason I could not post on my old PC.  I had to use a mouse working a keyboard on the TV.  Took ages so only made about 2 posts.

I used to like reading Its A Grim Outlook. Some great discussions on cheese and politics.  I remember Gymgirl and some of the other very interesting posters.

On one board there was a frequent poster from Sheffield.  He claimed to be a milionaire.  Then disappeared. There was also a professo or scientistr? who used to post a lot of academic stuff (truth and logic was one topic).

Have been on the New Fishy a long time.  Changed mu username, I think because of log-in or password issues.

Enjoy reading most posters - even if some annoy me or I disagree with their views.  We fought 2 world wars for freedom of speech.

Since 2014 I think, so that makes me a bit of a newbie.

I guess the thing that keep me coming back on is that it testifies to something I was once told “just because I don’t like it that’s doesn’t mean it’s wrong”.

As long as it doesn’t cross the boundaries of race, religion, sexuality etc.. etc... long may the free speech and opinion continue.

Funny you should mention 80s Glory. I thought to myself the other day that current poster DB reminds me a lot of 80s and that I wouldn't he surprised if it was the same person. Several similarities. This isn't a pop at DB, i actually liked 80s.

Sorry Tommy, not me, mind you I was around in the 80s, 70s,60s, and 50s. I do remember life before a keyboard with a fountain pen and a bottle of ink. Then came a brand new invention, ink in a cartridge.

Those were the days, several of them to get a letter from A to B, you don't know your born today. Type, post receiver gets it in microseconds.

Surprised to have been included on the list of the ‘originals’ - funny what you remember though..originally posted under the name SLM (SloughMariner) - where I often crossed swords with BAWB - went in to become good mates, Grim Outlook etc since,  sat next to each other for years in Pontoon and shared the odd away trip - both of same mind and had Fenty worked out from Day 1. Both boycotted since - I’ve returned very sporadically. Got to meet/know various posters from here and elsewhere over the years - some of whom I still interact with on an offline- some of whom I avoid like the plague.

On a serious note to see the club turn into what it is now - on and off pitch - well...it’s upsetting..heart breaking ..

I ..along with others ..hoped..hope for a fresh start.

May 2010 I joined, just before that ill fated Burton game that I attended with my lad, 2010 was a bit of a **** year personally. I'm not very vocal on here, but do enjoy people's views, and it's good to get other peoples opinions and rumours!!
Stand outs for me since I've been a member was being not far from Fenty when he deconstructed the Newport flag, and being in the Pontoon when Connor Townsend scored that excellent looping free kick, can someone remind me who was the opposition that day, it was a Saturday game if I remember rightly?
Saddens me to see where my club is today.
My earliest memories of Town were the George Kerr years, with Batchy, Brolly, Cummings, Bobby Mitchell, Joe Waters etc.
I've been at some memorable games and seen some top players at BP including, being a young lad in the Pontoon when Keegan was playing for Newcastle, "that" Exeter game, "that" Wrexham game, seeing a fantastic Vince Hilaire volley for Crystal Palace. That Fulham game what an atmosphere, Bonneti getting us a win when AB returned to BP with WBA. Gazza applauding us fans in the Main Stand, when warming up as a Burnley sub, seeing a young James Milner with Swindon, seeing Danny Murphy acknowledging a fantastic Stestanovic (him who got done for armed robbery)performance when he came with Fulham. Shearer getting an elbow in the mush, Charlie Nicholas hat trick, Phil Crosby scoring a fantastic chip from the left wing against Shrewsbury, many years ago and of course the play off final vs FGR, and of course the two Wembley games in the 90's. Oh and a Barnsley game many many years ago when we were 0-2 down at half time then won 3-2. God so many good memories, will we ever get any more, I hope so.

It seems that I joined this wonderful board December 29, 2007 at 8:46pm. But I seem to remember that I used to be on the Electronic Fishcake in some form or the other before then.
Anyways, me joining so long ago and still around here must prove that I am a real supporter of this team, in thick and thin... mostly in "thin" these last years unfortunately.
This forum is so great - I love the banter and I have learned that there is a lot of funny people here. I often laugh out loud reading some of the comments. And I must thank all those people here offering their help when I have had the need of some assistance towards different things throughout the years.
I really look forward to travel to Grimsby and Cleethorpes again when this Covid thing is over. Can not wait to watch a game live again with all the TRUE football fans in this forum. You are the very best!

2 days after you.

Was also on GO as well as the EF

I was on the EF as Timariner I think?

It was a long time ago to be honest

I do remember it being such a lifeline though..... finally being able to keep in touch with all things Town after leaving home in 1980 and the only news I could usually was usually a paragraph or two in a Sunday paper if we'd played down south of Watford gap

Some great names and great memories on this thread, I was about occasionally on the ElectronicFishcake and Grim Outlook...some of those days out on other teams boards were great fun...some wonderful people have been met through the website mentioned, such a shame to see the state of the club now...the first Fishy meet up in the Imp was a great day/night.

Wasn't there a Canadian guy who began as a victim of an invasion and ended up posting regularly?....Kev perhaps?

and being in the Pontoon when Connor Townsend scored that excellent looping free kick, can someone remind me who was the opposition that day, it was a Saturday game if I remember rightly?

😉. Iam sure theres a few that can relate including me .  Just wish some of the older heads on here would sometimes realise that some of us are including me were/and still are relatively young and we will all make mistakes with what we say and do regardless of what age we are young and old. Likewise all our backgrounds are different and I dont like judging any fan on here as I dont know their life story. Theres a saying ,only judge someone unless you have been in their shoes.

Connor Townsend mentioned.   As a team we could not win at Chelsea in the Cup.   However, last weekend he was part of an impressive WBA team that did win at Chelsea.

I thought that you would have said ‘just not lest ye be judged’ 😉

I’d go with, judge the action not the person, but it’s very hard to do in practice.

There is also another in the Bible Mathew 7 v 1-5 :-

“Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye.

I've been posting since the old Electronic Fishcake days, its been a fantastic site for me being so far away from other fans. I'm not sure how long forsure but it must be about 20 years for me now.

I was thinking about the old matchday chatroom the other day, those were funny days, I don't think that feature moved across to the new site but I could be wrong.

We all fall short of perfection Kingston. Its why I love sport especially boxing and then football. As others who have reached the top of their sports in various domains say the perfect athlete doesn't exist and there is always room for improvement.

To be fair I don't find this site degrading. I remember on the grim outlook when I was alot younger, nieve and somewhat immature I used to get shot down for posts I used to do. I left gtfc forums for a short while because of it... But I find the fishy has a mix bag of everything, although i do miss a few posters who aren't here anymore

That was my old mate from school Kev Blyth

He and I were in touch regularly after I spotted him on the GO getting on for 15 years ago

He emigrated to Canada with his family after we'd left school and to find him on the site years later was brilliant

Not heard from him since just after Xmas.... he's had some health issues so even though he has a Facebook account he's taken himself off there for a while but hope to pick up again with him soon

I like how, in keeping with these modern times, that you’ve left it open that the user known only as Spoony might have been a girl.

Such a revelation would make my brain explode.

I remember Kev Blyth on Grim Outlook.  Somebody posting in this country once complained about the cold weather and snow.  Kev said there was 12 foot of snow outside his house and sometimes minus 30 degrees.  (He did not recommend anyone emigrating to Canada).

He's had some health issues these past few years KM

I'll maybe try his sons soon to ask how he's doing - if he wants to engage then all well and good but I also respect him not wanting to carry on with any social media

As I said in an earlier post I was in touch up to the New Year but he took himself off FB just after that

Maybe he was just pre-occupied with shoveling all that snow in those dark winter months
