Looking at it last night, it is so southern based. If notts or chesterfield go up we lose one of our “ close” games. Some horrendous trips to Dover, Weymouth and the like.

I doubt we’ll be going to Dover once the NL have finished with them they’ll be playing on a Sunday morning in the local park.

Let’s just hope Weymouth is in August or at the end of the season.

Kings Lynn (if they stay up) will be a good away day.
Never been to Wealdstone.

Halifax stands out of the Northern games and Chesterfield is always a good one.

Looking at the current table, all sides from 12 down are south of Birmingham, with the exception of Kings Lynn which may as well be in terms of convenience.

That said, there are still some decent away days in there if you manage to pair up with nearby major cities.

- Halifax via Leeds
- Stockport and Altrincham via Manchester
- Solihull via Birmingham
- Barnet, Boreham Wood, Dagenham and Bromley via central London

On top of that, Notts County is of course already in Nottingham and the likes of Chesterfield and Hartlepool aren’t too hard to get to, assuming none of them go up. As divisions go, it’s probably more interesting than League Two has been the last couple of years.

Look, the last 12 months have been exhausting from both a GTFC perspective and every day life, and it’s an absolute travesty that in all likelihood we’re going to be playing non-league football once more.

But once things have improved sufficiently and it’s time to go back to games, I intend to do as many away trips as humanly possible. Having spent every Saturday for a year with the wife and kids for a year I absolutely need it.

And boy, I don’t care if he (or she, in these modern times) awards us six penalties and a dodgy goal, the referee in that first game is going to be getting some “fúcks” and “cùnts” from me - a year or so’s pent up stress and frustration released in a single, purple faced burst.

Whatever tinpot league we’re in, I can’t wait.

Add Wealdstone to your Central London list, let’s hope Torquay if not promoted is when the weather is decent.

I know it’s a bit tenuous but a night out in Central Birmingham after a visit to Solihull would be worth a trip.

Let’s hope the evening games are the crap away trips.

Like us all I want to be in the EFL but if it’s the NL I intend to enjoy it as best I can after all this time without attending a game.

Well if it's predominantly southern based that's the best news I've had for the last 12 months.

Weymouth is in beautiful Dorset, one of my favourite counties. Bloody long drive though.

I hated non league last time and not looking forward to it at all. Never imagined we would be going back so soon. Gutted!

88th Cheltenham goal and 89th minute Colchester goal both nailed on. Add in a 92nd minute sitter ballooned over by LJL.

Why are we looking at these teams. If we win our game in hand we will only be 4 points behind Colchester - Southend losing  1 - 0 at the moment. We are going nowhere

Only 2 things I miss from our Conference days.

The food at Kiddy and a weekend in Torquay.

Hopefully get the latter back if they don't go up.

Unless there are big changes in the national guidelines regards Covid i am not sure there will be many opportunities to travel. If sporting venues open then wont they still be in restricted capacities ? Which may mean no room for away support.
Our own plans for restricted opening was around 1400 capacity wasnt it ? That was taking up use of all stands with no away support , some of the grounds we may visit will be less than that capacity i imagine so 1000 - 2000 heading on the away days may not be possible anyway.

No one really knows is the answer. I don’t think we’ll see away fans in any meaningful way until social distancing requirements are relieved and capacity crowds are allowed - the question is when will that be?

According to the official roadmap, social distancing is due to end in June, though of course that is due to change. A lot could happen between now and August, however presently things seem well on track in that we are ahead of schedule on vaccines and the apparent impact on cases, hospitalisations and deaths appears to be better than any model had predicted.

I’m quietly confident we could be seeing big crowds again in this country come the start of the season, though the play-off will be that international travel will remain heavily restricted.

Each to their own. We always challenged even with the penny pinching of JF. Hurst has more experience and will hopefully have better financial backing.

I doubt we’ll be going to Dover once the NL have finished with them they’ll be playing on a Sunday morning in the local park.

Let’s just hope Weymouth is in August or at the end of the season.

I went to Weymouth away back in Aug 87' it was our 2nd game of our first GMVC campaign. It was called the Wessex Stadium and had just been built. Imps were woeful lost 0-3, and were bottom of the 5th Tier

You've a fair way to go to reach the depths I've seen.

That was definitely to most toxic atmosphere I have experienced at any Town away game in all my years following the Mariners. Was even worse than Burton atmosphere wise.

Yeah, it was hard watching the likes of McKeown, Shaun Pearson, Disley, Toto, Arnold, Nolan, Liam Hearn, Podge, Omar and the like play their hearts out, bang the goals in, give us great away days and deliver our first promotion in nearly two decades.

Non-league is a mental barrier for most.

It's still football at the end of the day. A division lower, but it's still Town, it's still BP and you still get to meet up with your family and friends and (hopefully) you'll see us win and score more often.

We might not like the names of our opposition (I don't relish playing Kings Lynn or Wealdstone) but hey, I never relished playing Morecambe, Forest Green or Cheltenham when I was growing up in the 90s. Yet here we are, playing these 'pub teams' in the Football League.

Let's roll with the punches. I can accept relegation if it means I can start going to games again, seeing friends and getting excited for match day. It'd be different if I was the only one, but knowing there'll be a few thousand of you mad nutters joining me is what makes it totally worthwile.

Toxic is one word for it Les! I don't think Hurst helped with the "spoilt" comment only a week before and nor did the team performance but Hurst got some really unnecessary stick that day, my overriding memory is off hundreds of fans all chanting "Hursty is a male masturbator" I was right in the middle of it and everywhere I turned all I could see was people chanting it, me and my brother couldn't believe it and that'll be a moment which will stick in my memory forever for the wrong reasons.

I get that fans were frustrated with Hurst's comment and the terrible team performance but we was still in the play offs!

That sticks in my mind too. I turned round to see a 30 something bloke chanting it. What made it worse though is that he had a young lad with him, no more than 12, I assume it was his son, who was chanting it at the top of his voice too!

This is exactly what I now feel like. I’d much rather go to a place like Eastleigh, Torquay, Kiddy or Woking where you’re made welcome than soulless places Colchester, Cheltenham, Stevenage etc.. where they just think we’re scum.

Sometimes I feel like In the time that we’ve been back in the EFL I have had more match days that I’ve not enjoyed than ones that I have. This is partly due to us being p1ss poor in the main and some of the lifeless places we have to visit.

I don’t want relegation as it sets us further back but if it’s inevitable I’ll make the most of it and try and get behind the team in the hope of an early return.

And people wonder why he cupped his ear, a lease man would have chucked it after some of the stick he took.

I take your point. Those three are places I also don’t like going to for various reasons. But then they are just some of the grounds in the League. I could say Orient, Luton, Exeter as a counter-balance.

We did have a good time visiting a lot of places in non-League though. And there is generally a more welcoming atmosphere.

That was definitely to most toxic atmosphere I have experienced at any Town away game in all my years following the Mariners. Was even worse than Burton atmosphere wise.

I was in the side stand which was better.

Looking at the National League table I am hoping for a Sutton/Torquay double for promotion. Some long away days next year.

Not me for obvious reasons.

New southern trips looking forward to are Weymouth (love Dorset) and Maidenhead (not too far). Not enthralled by Weadlstone (though it might turn out to be one of those odd days like Hayes & Yeading). Kings Lynn might be alright too if combined with the Narfuk coast.

The atmosphere at Halifax was ludicrous. I couldn’t believe the idiots that joined in the Hurst bashing. Was embarrassing and I was embarrassed for them. Proof that plenty of people are unable to read between the lines or critically think.

People still get all pissy because he cupped his ear; I’d have done a lot more than that after Arnold sunk that goal in.

Another toxic atmosphere l remember was Gateshead away in the play offs. Result was excrement but when that town goal went in it was brutal, well was where I was stood. Closest to a goal celebration I’ve experienced on the continent.

Does anyone want to be non league? Not really? Does anyone want to visit grounds with one turnstile? Nope. It will be the reality again and we all know why. This time we will have new owners, it could be a new dawning and have a positive long term benefit for the club though. Personally, I haven’t seen a town side battle so much and win so many games since we were down there (perhaps the short time PH was here in the league before Fenty drunk him off). We’ll become well acquainted with the A1 again and random places that people don’t believe are real but so be it. We can’t moan, as a club it’s our own fault.

After my greatest day as a town fan I never wanted to find us down there again but so be it. The summer prepared me for it, we prepared for failure and that’s what we got. Holloway was a disaster from the start in truth and it was clear from the very beginning we were gonna be in this mess.

Do I want to go to places like King Lynn and Wealdstone? Not really, but then again Barrow, FGR, Morecambe etc aren’t exactly amazing so it doesn’t really matter, what matters is I can support my club and I, along with many will be there.

I am miles behind the times but I have just been pointed to the Wealdstone raider.
I would suspect this would make our game against Wealdstone either an early kick off or a weekday match to avoid trouble
The National League truly is the gift that keeps on giving. On a serious note I watched a couple of clips, looked at a couple of the grounds and felt sick utm

They've got an excellent club house at Wealdstone, I went there for an Electro 80's gig just before the first Lockdown last year ... the ground itself isn't up to much though and Ruislip is not the easiest place to get to.

Is Wealdstone the place where they invite fans of clubs playing at Wembley to go to their clubhouse?

Deliver round there most weeks. Is in the middle of a suburban desert, but is dead easy to get to from the A40 (only a mile from the Polish War memorial junction) and 5 minutes walk from Ruislip and Ruislip Manor tube stations (10 mins to Ruislip Gardens)
definite lack of pubs , but there is a Hennessy's irish bar that i spotted about 50m from Ruislip Manor

If we stay up, great (not a cat in hells chance) if we go down, some cracking days out, It’s a win win situation

From a selfish point of view next season could be a cracker! Already told the wife not to work so many Saturdays so I can have the car....don’t trust you on the back of my motorbike

Are we any closer to getting promoted since Hurst has been here? No

Has he been given time to achieve promotion by the chairman and fans? Yes

Hurst out

Yes Les, that’s the place. Villa fans had it last season before the League Cup Final v City ... very welcoming.
