Let's have a proper match thread:

Mariners: McKeown, Hendrie, Menayese, Pollock, Preston, Wright, Matete, Hewitt, Habergham, Green, Hanson.

Subs: Russell, Rose, Scannell, Spokes, Gibson, Williams, Jackson Jr.

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

Happy with that line up, probably Green will benefit from having Hanson to take some of the weight off him, and the bench looks good.now just get the 3 points and Saturday lockdown becomes palatable.

4-4-2

Wright and Preston wide with a brief no doubt to track back and cover the full backs.

Interesting to see how Green and Hanson will perform with service from Wright and Matete.

Greens on the pitch again, he's such a dead weight we might as well play with 9 men instead of his constant fouling

I don't mind Roy Keane making £60,000 a week. I was making the same when I was playing. The only difference was I was printing my own - Mickey Thomas

The area you are trying to protect at corners is the goal - Chris Kamara

See how he goes now he has someone to share the workload.

What workload would that be? He just fouls all the time. The second half the other week, when Gibson replaced him, is working hard. Green is pretending.

We know how he goes we saw it under Jolley when we were scoring for fun at the start of the season, he barely did anything.

I was just thinking that. He’s won two or three free kicks already as well. He frees Green up to press their defence too.

Its like a game of ping pong 🏓

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Town should respond to this by throwing ourselves to the ground anytime a Scunthorpe player dares to breathe on them. The clown officiating will give it as a foul every time.

Our players need to use their brains then, and not make it easy to give the foul.

So far it looks like the “dogs on the pitch” again

Well it's a "dogs on the pitch starting XI". Two left backs. Can't believe Green is playing. Rather have the extra man in midfield with the advanced one near Hanson..
Where's the goals going to come from in open play? Relying on set pieces, long ball to Green who hasn't got the legs to do owt with it or everything to Hanson's head. never gonna work..

New players look decent though..

Scannell for Preston and any forward or CM for Green to get anything out of this game.. by half time at the latest..

A little nod on by Wright for Green to run on to but looked like someone had nailed Greens feet to the floor

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Classic example the lad from Fleetwood has the ball at his feet with time and space in the middle of the park and Max Wright is static stood watching rather than making a run.

Why is Hewitt even in the team?
Preston is fooking bad.

Christ you all wanted him sacked a few months ago. 6th place finish and he's now the messiah and can do no wrong
Update:  I think I've got this right - He was the messiah. He then wasn't. He then was again. Then it turned out he actually wasnt. He turned into one big huge messiah again. Now he's not actually the messiah we thought he was . Now I'm hoping he rises again quickly

I wouldn't say Hewitt, he's doing a decent enough job shielding. Matete is impressing though.

I don't mind Roy Keane making £60,000 a week. I was making the same when I was playing. The only difference was I was printing my own - Mickey Thomas

The area you are trying to protect at corners is the goal - Chris Kamara

What was going on in the defence there?

Absolutely terrible defending

New centre half pairing with no experience of playing together combined with a dodgy keeper coasting off his reputation from a few seasons ago. Not a great mix.

Can we add a new keeper to Hurst's list please.

Why picking on Macca
That second goal was out and out excrement defending

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

We managed to beat this lost under Holloway with his crap line up. Almost every team they have played since beat them. This is probably our most winnable game of the remainder of the season on paper.

If, as seems likely, they win this game then the mountain we have to climb to turn things around is looking an impossible task.

I have got to say that this is possibly the worst side I have seen in over 50 yrs of watching the Mariners, totally clueless !

Some of you need to remove the rose tinted spectacles and stop gushing about the return of "The Messiah" and realise that we are totally sh1ite !

Can't defend, no idea's going forward, the National League beckons (again).

You'd make a start by cancelling Preston's loan and paying Green up or sending him to train with the youth.

Minimum should be:-

Jackson for Green
Williams for Hewitt
Scannell for Preston

Hewitt jogging around the pitch like its a fuckin kick about in the park, Preston looks so lost of confidence playing more forward.

Green looks like he has been retired 30 years and his having a kick about, its not good enough all over and this is the first time i genuinely think we are heading out the league.

Utter fuckin shambles.

Hewitt, Green, Preston offer absolutely nothing. National league scrapped very soon could be our only chance of keeping our slim hold on league status. In 40 years of watching town i cannot think of many worse teams.

He stopped it from being 3:0 at the end there when they just walked the ball through 4-5 players who don't care enough to put a tackle in. Bunch of lazy girl privates may as well have not turned up. As with our previous L2 relegation a bunch of mercenaries added to a team who doesn't care won't help as they don't really care either, not their relegation to suffer.

Only Pollock looked like he cared at half time everyone else looks like they have just given up.

Two non freekicks and we're two nil down.
Nothing to say about our performance as we've not done anything in 45 minutes

Think the players owe us better to be fair. The lad from Fleetwood looks ok though.

Surely Hurst can see that it's either Green or Hanson, not both! Preston and Green off as a minimum please.

Habergham not up to speed yet either. They chase us down far better while we hesitate. Ref giving soft kicks for both goals too.

We haven't scored more than one goal in a game in 12 matches and 3 in 19. Not only is this game copulated, but I've come to the acceptance in the first half that we're getting relegated. Some might say that it's dramatic, there's plenty of games left, but we've had opportunities to take points from our relegation rivals in the previos weeks and consistently shown we're worse than them.

Free kicks are going to get us relegated . Why don't we learn ? Stop giving the ref a chance to blow stop getting too close to players and giving them a chance to fall down . Been like it for more than this season .

Why can't managers see the obvious?

Hurst said he had watched us 4 times before he took the job, and now we are even worse.

He must have seen Macca was having a terrible season; first job was to get a new keeper. You cannot keep playing Green its a joke.

You won't stay up with Hewitt in midfield. One so so game in 6 or seven won't get us safe.

It is a bloody mess.

Hurst has got to show more faith in Habergham by playing a more attacking left sided player and Hurst picking Green every game is beyond a sick joke..

Scannell for Preston, Spokes for Green, extra man in midfield, and get Spokes, Max and Scannell closer to Hanson..

Simply awful.

No energy, no drive, no understanding. We’re fooked.

All we have is a ball down the channel. Literally, that’s it.

Habergham and Preston down the left is a failed experiment and needs ending now. Preston has no idea how to attack or move forward with any purpose. I’d also say that I’m less than impressed by Habergham so far. Rarely crosses the half way line and when in possession he frequently takes too long and is closed down. Appreciate he hasn’t played for a long time but right now he isn’t improving us.

I currently can’t see us winning another game.

Has to drop green has to. Preston has looked poor apart from one brilliant pass to.... green. Who couldn't even take a shot when put clear thru on goal.

Habergham looks hesitant and has nearly been caught out on two occasions.

An issue with our captain, 2nd goal goes in and is he charging up to his players, giving them some? encouraging them, no he wanders head down to the edge of his box then wanders back again, total silence from the whole except Matete a young lad on his debut. Shocking defending, how are we going to score goals with 6 defenders on the pitch, a winger who only ever redeives the ball in his own half (obviously not allowed to run forwards unless we already have the ball at halfway) a striker who scores 2 a season up front who has continued in the same vain this year but still gets picked (and odd bits of service he gets does nothing with it.) We are a mess, can't see us escaping to be honest, Scunny are not v good but not one shot, but we look like we will concede at every corner and free kick

Why can't managers see the obvious?

Hurst said he had watched us 4 times before he took the job, and now we are even worse.

He must have seen Macca was having a terrible season; first job was to get a new keeper.

You won't stay up with Hewitt in midfield. One so so game in 6 or seven won't get us safe.

It is a bloody mess.

Agree about Hewitt, he has been absolutely garbage in recent weeks. Rarely wins a 50/50 and his passing is shocking. He’s offering nothing and looks poor against other poor midfielders. Cover for right back but nothing more.

What have you seen in Spokes to suggest he’s good enough?

Good eye for a foward pass and composed on the ball. Poor last match though..

On the basis of the first half Hurst could have chosen to replace 7/8 of them but agree I’d have rather seen Scannell for Preston, Gibson for Green at least.

Matt Green there, booting the ball straight out of play while trying to make a 10 yard pass. I'm giving myself a headache trying to understand how he's still on the pitch.

He's terrible, completely lightweight, doesn't offer any kind of attacking threat and coasts through games without impacting them. It's a real indictment on Welsh football when been capped by their national team 7 times.

Will we win another game this season??

I cant see it.

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Did Hurst watch this side under Holloway before joining? His half time subs were absolutely male masturbation - Rose, Williams and Spokes have all been completely useless all season. Bringing that trio when you're 2-0 down, yanking off Wright (one of our few bright spots when he's been fit) and leaving Green on was utterly nonsensical. No surprise at all it hasn't worked.

Season is over, get ready for the non league.

Be interesting whether fans will want Hurst in charge in the future. The new owners are rich as intercourse, so Id expect it to be a one season absence,   Id also expect only players contracted after May to be at the club.  Interesting times ahead

There's usually a new manager bounce. Unfortunately we've flatlined.

As bonkers as Holloway was at least he managed to get back to back wins against this lot - with this same squad not too long ago.

He inherited a bad squad, but he clearly hasn't fully understood who the worst performers in it are. Anyone with eyes could tell you Green is terrible, yet Hurst still picks him every week and leaves him on when we're in need of goals. Max Wright and Scannell have been two of our better attacking players this season (that's not saying much tbf), but he pulls one of them off at half time after playing no worse than some players who remained on the pitch, and leaves the other one on the bench until we're 3-0 down. Rose and Williams have been dire all season - both just give free kicks away and really offer nothing creatively. He brings them both on when we're losing - why? Obviously the main blame for our position lies with Holloway and the board, and the players Hurst has brought in have looked better than what we already had, but he can't expect to escape some blame if he keeps putting players who we know are useless on the pitch at the expense of others who've proven they're slightly less excrement.

Clutching at straws but we are only in the bottom 2 on goal difference.

The alcohol is kicking in.

A. Why didn't Williams shoot.  Town's big problem, they try so hard for the perfect shot that the opportunity goes.
B.  When he went down, why didn't he appeal.  The defender caught his foot.   If their first goal was a foul....

williams there, an international footballer, just having a leisurely stroll through their penalty area, deciding it's probably not worth having a shot and losing possession. very cool!

I cannot understand why Hurst and the coaching staff (including those that have seen this team all season) did not immediately suss out what we  needed to change, to even give us a chance of staying up.

If I were Hurst I would have wanted assurances from whoever is holding the purse strings that proper money would be made available.

Apart from bottom team Southend (for now), our GD is a massive 15 goals worse then the next team (Scunny ironically).   A recipe for relegation if ever there was one!

We can't stop conceding goals, cant score them, and the midfield do not support either, or offer any leadership.  Very sad.

Thank you Runaway, Holloway, Daft Cap and BS merchant.  Agent relegation member-up.  Mission on-track.

Only pluses are the new lad in midfield, the fact the transfer window is still open and the slight possibility the trapdoor may shut tight and spare our blushes.

Hate to say it, but I'm afraid its season over.

Getting thrashed by a team as bad as Scunny means that we are totally inadequate and without hope.

There's a week left in the transfer window. Unless we somehow bring in four or five good players in just over a week we have to basically rely on this bunch. Cant see it happening.

When you have to resort to bringing on someone as dire as Williams, you are well and truly fuckked.

Did we just have a shot that never even went forward? I was leaving the room and had a bad angle on it.

Well certainly not helped by the officials with some rubbish decisions but no where near good enough overall.

Preston, Hewitt, Green ineffective , no width, no bite, no desire anywhere.

Deserve to go down.

Matete looked decent, minutes under Hansons belt...outside of that nothing positive to say.

Posted this first half and saw nothing in the second that forced me to revise my opinion.

We were bad under Runaway but somehow we have managed to look worse under Hurst !

50% more possession that Scunny (60% v 40%).

Again, we dominated possession in another game.  We very rarely do anything with it!!  We still lost 3-0 today.

Very, very poor again.   Very sad for everybody, mainly the long-suffering loyal fans.  How did we hit rock-bottom?

Never before has anybody in a town shirt put in no passion, no commitment, no effort, no desire and performed like headless chickens like this lot. Not worthy of the shirt but having had today off, tomorrow off, they be well prepared for Barrow.

You could allow a bit for Menayese and Matete but that said they both got no help others

Has anybody been "gushing" over PH ??
The majority realise the side is absolutely miles away from been were it needs to be.
It's easy to slate an incoming manager with the team he's inherited.

Minus 24 goal difference.  We are shockingly bad.

Error prone keeper. Static, slow, clueless defence.  No quality, pace. fight, or creativity in Midfield. No threat up front.

To be honest, its nor four or five new players we need, It's nearer 10.

Cant seen enough new faces coming in during the week we have left in the transfer window. So we are down. let's face it.

People having a go at Williams by far our best player going forward today if we are going to criticise players I think we need to look at our defence! The 3 that came on after half time added much needed energy and we started to pass the ball rather than hoof it up the pitch at Hanson. 2nd half so much better. Trying to be positive obviously none of it is great  ...

Williams 1 goal all season, so about from the stands where's his best attacking position

This. Switched on late, could not believe the selection or the subs. Matete was very promising. Their keeper has been criticised this year but looked much safer than ours.

I think we are already down. Utterly clueless. Once we were one down it was already over. I can't even be bothered to pick out any player for being slightly shitter than the rest. I stuck with GTFC buying season tickets for my family right through non league. I've spent £1400 on tickets for this season, plus buying merchandise and ifollow games and monthly ifollow. Cancelling my ifollow this afternoon. Won't renew my season tickets. That's it for me.

agree that we missed waterfall. rose and matete looked like they could make a partnership. tbf to williams he looked the most threatening of all our players. hanson looked frustrated with the dross around him. spokes did ok as did hendrie.
harbergam had his poorest game.
lots of possession, defence looked shaky throughout, zilch attacking intent. we are fooked

I’m exactly the opposite. I will renew season tickets as soon as possible as long as the new owners are in place. Jeez, we’ve spent enough money keeping the Fenty regime afloat, we’re not going to walk out on the club now it might be run properly are we?

At 3 - 0 up against a sh1t side like us you can understand the Scunny players giving Williams some space and add the fact that he’s a complete fanny he’ll never cause anyone a problem. Like so many of them he’s here because nobody else in the EFL wanted him.

Normally I would agree but the prospect of new owners in the National league does not look appealing. I hope to God the league is abandoned below us.

Incompetent, spineless, inept and loads of other words to describe this bunch of so called footballers, I think 11 people off here could try harder  god I'd love to meet Holloway in a dark alley. Angry does not even begin to describe my feelings for the utter shite served up today.

Hursty says they weren't good enough, they're heartless, and praise Scunny players. No fight by the players. Doe's even have players that care in the dressing room.

Sounds like he's not optimistic about Barrow, but have do you motivate a load of shite? Bet Jolley's is looking forward to the game.

Hanson off to save him for Barrow, just need another 8 plus the new boys.

It's no use pinning our hopes on new players coming in to save us.

It just won't happen.

Attacking MF behind a striker. Try playing in on a row of 5 games and let’s see what he does

He's paid to be a professional footballer, not an amateur or part timer. He paid to do a job and failing miserably

In my conservative view, we are screwed then if we have to pin our hopes on Johnson 🍆

Wonder what's keeping the inbreds from coming on an gloating?

Must all be having a celebratory fingering of their sisters. Must be interesting when you have six fingers on each hand.

Have we ever been this bad though when we've faced them?

I don't think we have

We might have lost games to them in the past, but have we ever been as abject as we were today?

If you go on BBC Sounds now and wind it back to 15:18 it'll be near to the start of Hurst's interview

Hanson on RH now

Saying it wasn't about our quality but about our lack of desire

I know he was only one of the 11 that failed us but if he thought that about his team-mates, he should have been laying in to them out there.

Just being a bystander while everyone else isn't up for the fight isn't really acceptable either

Just got back from a walk and seen the carnage.

Wasn't very inspired by the starting line up if I'm honest, but to be fair, there's not a much between the lot of them ability wise, so could have picked any side and I think we would have lost. Scunny and Town are bottom of the form guide over the last 6 games and they dicked us, which doesn't augur well for the rest of the season as we didn't lay a glove on them. Once again, a sh1t side struggling for goals and wins brush us to one side easily, a pattern that is all too familiar. Thought we had a chance when Hurst came in but it's looking increasingly like we will continue to be useless without at least four or five new signings, and who will want to come here that is any good?

I'm completely baffled as to how we keep being so clueless season after season. We can't seem to find a bunch of players that can even do the basics. They can't control a ball, can't pass, can't take free kicks and corners, and never look remotely like scoring a goal. Even the very worst sides alongside us manage to score now and again. Even fooking Harrogate managed 2 at Salford.

Has anybody been "gushing" over PH ??
The majority realise the side is absolutely miles away from been were it needs to be.
It's easy to slate an incoming manager with the team he's inherited.

Quite a few were when he re-joined.
