I am an incurable optimist, but even I can't see us staying up without several new players.

Also have to ask what might happen if we were to go a dozen or so matches without a win from here on in, worst case scenario, would the board sack him before the end of the season or stick with him for next season.

No chance.
Hurst doesn’t exaggerate and he wants 7-8 new players.

I suspect that scenario was covered off in his contract.

Of course we all expected the worst back in 2017. We had been on an abysmal run when Jolley took over.

But the difference then was that we were never in he drop zone, and always had a few points cushion. He brought in Fox, Ring and Ohman to sure up the defense, but the fact is that we had a few players that could still cut it at L2 level. Though we had foolishly let three of our best go in the January window, we still had the core of the side that had been close to the playoff zone at Christmas.

Now we are in he drop zone having played more games than many of our rivals, and have a chronic goal difference, a poor defense, no goal threat, little in midfield and an error prone goal keeper.

It's a far harder task now. But we do have more games, and apparently better funding available. So who knows.

But we definitely need some new players. Hopefully six, but four as an absolute minimum.

Might not matter if they declare this season null and void.

If they could stop the defence leaking goals and give Jackson a good run and then Hanson becoming fit it could happen.......🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞

I bet Hurst could improve some players and get them into a difficult to beat team but our slim chances of staying up would fully rely on the fitness of some of the senior players so I'll say no, we need some signings

I like to see myself as an optimist, at least when it comes to GTFC!!!! However, without 3/4 new players in, who raise the quality of the team, it would be a tough ask. The simple maths at the minute are that we look incapable of keeping a clean sheet, or scoring twice. That makes it difficult to gather draws nevermind wins. Obviously, we want quality but we also need a couple of nasty ba****ds who will cajole, berate, encourage etc. the others. An injection of enthusiasm and spirit seems required, almost as much as quality.

The only way Hurst will be able to keep us up without making any signings is to get everyone fit and firing.

Hanson up top, with Scannell and Morais attacking the wide areas, with Wright involved too. We might have a chance.

Even then, we still need players like Danny Rose and George Williams to perform, and Clifton to rediscover earlier form. If Spokes can play like he did his last two games then, again, we might make a fist of it.

And after that, you've got defensive problems. McKeown needs to rediscover his confidence, Pollock needs to play like he's enjoyed a proper rest, and Waterfall needs to be at his best.

Optimistic, maybe, but on paper we already have a lot of quality and experience in our squad. Hanson, Scannell, Morais, Williams, Rose, Hendrie, Waterfall, McKeown, even Habergham... whether they've still got the fight (and the fitness) in them will probably decide whether we sink or swim.

Not a chance without 3 or 4 better players coming in especially a striker with pace, height and strength

Nope, historicaĺy Hursts teams win by fine margins for the most part, we dont have the players to nick a goal or defend a narrow lead.

I'm not going to say I don't think we need any new players, we do, especially up front and at centre back. However I do believe Hurst can improve some of our players with proper training and direction. Let's be honest do we genuinely think the players understood a word of what Runaway said? In my opinion at some stage whilst playing for us Mckeown,  Hendrie, Pollock, Waterfall, Hewitt, Clifton, Wright and Gibson have all played well for decent runs of games. I think these are good players who with the right coaching and importantly confidence back can be good players. That gives us a base. Then we have the youngsters. If there is one positive to come out the shambles of the past few seasons is Woods and co are producing some good talent. I just hope Hurst doesn't ignore it- he doesn't have a great record of using it but I feel it should be part of the job now for whoever is manager to look to give youth a chance. Maybe now is not the right time, but would Adlard play any worse if picked tomorrow than others have done the last few weeks? We have tried all other current options so is it worth a go?
What I am saying is yes we need some new players, but I don't think some of what we have is a lost cause.
