If he's half as good as Townsend was then he'll be a bloody good signing...

Read a bit about him today, can’t figure out if he’s a central midfielder, winger or a striker. Several sources stating different.

Hadn't scored a senior goal until he joined Halifax on Dec 19th and has then scored 4 for them! I bloody hope he keeps that rate up for us if it's true.

From the clip of his goals I just watched, he appears to be playing as a forward, or a very advanced AMC.

Looks very energetic Not easily knocked off the ball Good with penalties
Just feels right......let’s hope it’s not another solid rumour which disappears in smoke. We certainly need someone like he shows in his videoclips.

No pressure. We’re reduced to pinning our hopes on a Hull youngster who’s never played in the Football League.

What do you want a washed up 32 year old after one last pay day? He appears in form and 6th in the Conference is every good as the bottom 6 in L2. Give the lad a chance FFS! Hurst has a decent hit rate with forwards.

Curtis Woodhouse had him at Gainsborough and was singing his praises in Twitter - quick, strong, good finisher, great attitude was his description. Martin Paterson hadn't done much before he joined us and I'm sure there will be more so it's hardly all on his shoulders to save us.

It wasn’t a criticism of the player at all. It was a comment on the state Holloway has left us in. Massively short on confidence, quality and the ability to bring players in. Sorry if that offends you, but it’s the truth.

Halifax are only just behind Stockport. Having watched their cup game against West Ham I think they'd hammer us at the moment.

This may be an unpopular opinion but I think he’s better than any of the central midfielders currently at the club.

Without a doubt. Summerfield was not terrible for us, nowhere near as bad as Berrett but unfortunately was lumped in to the same category as him by many of the fans.

Not offended at all. Just bored of the regurgitation of the state we have been left in. IH has gone and no amount of whingeing will improve the situation. TBH it will soon become an excuse for PH, if we let it. We have plenty of time left in the transfer window and the resources to make improvements across the squad. Regarding the reference to pinning our hopes on a player who hasn't played league football. So what? I can't be bothered to list the examples of those that have grabbed their chance when the opportunity has presented itself. The air of negativity is to be expected, given our place in the table, but let us at least try to embrace new signings with positivity. A glass half full attitude unless they (new signings) prove us wrong.

Chaddy of Barton G.S. legend? Played basketball in a tweed jacket. Taught Latin and ballroom dancing. Lovely chap but Sir Kenneth Shipstone inspired in the classroom and on the touchline. Had the same response to injury as Dave Moore.

Seems strange to me that they would recall him, just to loan him to someone else. Doesn't seem logical.

For his development. He's done well in the National League so they want to progress him into League Two. Also with the National League almost at crisis point due to fixture congestion I imagine Hull are concerned about loaning him to Halifax for the rest of the season and then finding the National League abandoned a couple of days after the transfer window shuts.

I'm going out for my daily walk. Hopefully there will be some news when I get back, although I have thought this all week and nothing has transpired yet.
Best make sure your route covers Blundell Park and perhaps chuck Millfields and a couple of Petrol stations on the way for good measure

I feel for Hurst in this situation - it's a worse squad than the one he and Scott inherited in 2011.
Everyone knows Grimsby need a striker this transfer window, but they're always hot property. Anyone who has scored, say 5-10 goals this season, and is fit, will automatically be on the radar of every club that's looking for a striker, and that player will more than likely choose another club over us because of where we are.
Sadly, the only type of striker we're likely to get is someone who is either unexposed to the rigours of league football, or who is relatively experienced but been frozen out somewhere, and won't have a great scoring record as a result.
We all reference Podge and Connell's scoring records before they joined us, and how (albeit a centre back) Futch was plucked from Halifax reserves.
Whoever we sign, they're not going to have a fancy YouTube showreel and their scoring record is going to be scrutinised by the fans. But one name that sticks in my mind was Lee Thorpe — we had him on loan at the end of Groves' tenure, when Rodger took caretaker charge. He didn't score for us in 5 or 6 games but was excellent at keeping the ball in the final third and linking up with players around him (especially Jevons).
In all reality, someone like him would do. Mind you, we're also missing a Jevons. A fit Hanson, Scannell and Wright would make a world of difference, but there's not a lot Hurst can do about them but keep his fingers crossed and pray they don't relapse.

Agree on all terms Rich, this side is a lot worse than one that was relegated last time its probably fair to say as well, Rich. That side was full of drunks as well. Hurst has a colossal task on his hands, I admire him for not doing what a lot of managers would do and just get anyone who is available. I would rather we fight with what we have than sign 4 or 5 sub standard players to contracts that would no doubt in the most part be 1 year to 18 month deals and then be lumbered with wanting them off the wage bill next year. It's really a catch-22, we are in need of players fast and thick, but they have to be of a certain quality or the complete process will potentially be in vein.

One game I will never forget was when we beat Barnsley 6-1. I don't think Lee Thorpe scored, but there was him, Isaiah Rankin and Phil Jevons running directly into the Barnsley box with sheer determination. Defenders don't like that and are of course nervous of giving a penalty away. If we can't get the right people in, I feel if they had the ball at their feet, we have players capable of that, Scannell, Wright, Morais and others who have perhaps not had a chance yet, but have been prolific goal scorers at lower levels. We just need to be more direct on the floor and show a more confidence and determination.

Chadwick aint coming, hes maybe in the Hull squad tomorrow according to Hull News. Grant McCann confirmed to the press this morning that Hull City have no fresh injury concerns ahead of the clash with Blackpool at the KCOM Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
“Martin is the only one out, he is carrying a knock on his calf,” said McCann. “He’s having a follow up scan today, so we’ll know more on that later.
“Callum Jones is back in training, which is good. Billy Chadwick has come back from his loan at Halifax too so we’ve got good numbers and the squad is looking strong.”

On his way soon?
Could be that Hull wanted him in their squad last week as cover until they got someone else in or got someone back from injury. Mansfield wouldn't let us have their defender for last weekend for some reason, then let him come. Things change daily during a transfer window, so wouldn't surprise me if we signed him.

Grant McCann has just been on radio Humberside and said there has been interest in some of his younger players going out on loan to Div 2 & Conference teams So that’s why young Chadwick has been mentioned again

I believe there was a dispute with one of Hull's other young strikers, Lewis-Potter?
Since Chadwick has been back, Lewis-Potter has signed a new contract.... could this now free Chadwick as he was potential recalled in case Lewis-Potter didn't sign?

This would see us begin to shape up for the second half of the season. With this signing, along with the potential of Giles Coke penning a short term deal, plus the return of Scannell, Hanson and Wright.
If we could sign Chadwick, I think just the addition of a rapid winger would give us a very good chance of getting the points we need.

What they did to us over Townsend? Are they not entitled to go for the players they want? Why should they care who else is interested? If it’s within the bounds of what is legitimate then what has anyone got to complain about?

Cox says they are in for a League 1 striker along with several other clubs who are chasing his signature, one of which will probably be us I assume. He said Scunny was the preferred choice of the striker and he was keen to go there, but that his team lost on Tuesday night and their manager had decided to hang onto him for now. Hull won on Tuesday night, so that suggests it isn't Chadwick Scunny are chasing. Crucially, they won't have him in for Saturday he said, though that could be a bluff? League 1 teams losing on Tuesday were Accrington, Charlton, Brovers, Rochdale, Fleetwood, Wimbledon and Sunderland. We need a striker detective.

Still can't believe the Judas chose to sign a 2 and a half year deal at a playoff chasing League 1 club.

I ruled him out straight away. He wouldn't choose Scunny over us, would he?
Pretty sure he said once before he'd never go to Scunthorpe on a twitter QNA when asked

Imagine the scenes on here if it was Bogle

If we could sign Chadwick, I think just the addition of a rapid winger would give us a very good chance of getting the points we need.
Why's that? I think that's more hopeful/wishful thinking than any realistic expectation. None of them you would describe as proven in the the football league, though by virtue they can't make us any worse you'd have to think and the two signed so far have been signed because they appear to bring attributes we currently lack, namely pace. It s a lot to ask of young loanees to pull us out of this mire. As always though, I'll reserve judgement until they've played a few games. I'm not gonna go so far as to say I m disappointed with the signings we've made as it's obvious it's difficult to get players to join us, but I was hoping for a few players with plenty of football league experience. That said, there's obviously still time with lots of movements yet to make players who are currently unavailable, available.

I would very much doubt so, when Scunny were relegated in 2019 they lost the ability to say they are a bigger club than us solely pointing at their League status over the last 15 years or so. Now they are back in League Two they've lost that appeal, so unfortunately for them they are just another small club, with a chairman they want rid of and are worse off financially than we are.

Optimism and faith in Hurst's judgement. I certainly don't think it is misplaced. His track record with us would hold up to scrutiny. I am sure you will throw back a few duds, but by and large his patience and background work tends to provide a more than decent hit rate. Arrogance, energy and determination to make an impact tends to come with youthful loan signings from League clubs. They know their parent club will be monitoring their progress and they will be looking to cement a place when they return, or put themselves in the shop window. Do you not have faith in Hurst's judgement on players?

Menayese has spent most his time in the FL and Mayete played 14 times this season for a team that reached the playoffs last season in the league above, not saying they're experienced but hardly as if they're coming without a taste of FL action.

All managers make good & bad signings but given his previous time with us Hurst is probably in credit but in reality a number of his signings when we returned to the league didn’t prove great successes, with Andrew the only one who shone whilst playing for us. Henderson obviously did well but PH never selected him which given his displays once in the team appears a little odd. I agree with Imariner that I was also expecting some experienced signings, Coke may be one, but on reflection if they stay fit we already have Rose, Scannell, Morais, Bennett, Hanson & Waterfall, plus Macca and Hendrie to provide experience and what is probably required is more mobile, physical and strong players to give us better balance. Time will tell.

Madness that people are saying we're lacking experience as i'm pretty sure we have one of the eldest squads on average in the league.

Like I said, wishful/hopeful thinking. They're not players coming in who you look at and you know they'll do a job. Hurst does have a pretty good record and I largely trust him on signings, but it's still a leap to say we're a quick winger away from being well-set to get out of this pickle. Matete has 1 football league start and Menayese 35 at the age of 23. We still have a hell of a lot of players either not good enough or not performing to the levels they should be. I'm just saying it's hard to expect a couple (a few if we sign Chadwick) of inexperienced loanees to come in, perform and drag up the performances of their team mates. I have everything crossed of course but that isn't the same as realisticslly expecting it.

Signs Morais - Old, legs probably gone, pointless signing. Sign a young lad - Not played much, not got the experience.
You'll never win

Small point but Matete has 7 starts. Also with Mayenese, he may not have many starts either, but what he has have been mostly recent.
On another point, I see Charlton have brought in Jaydon Stockley from Preston, further pushing Bogle down the pecking order. Would be good to get him on loan for the rest of the season.
Listening to the Cox interview as I did yesterday, he mentions how hard it is at the moment to bring in players from higher leagues because clubs are not sharing the financial costs of loans with the way things are at the moment, and they simply can't afford to be paying someone 3 or 4 grand a week wages.
Looking at transfers in the EFL this window, there are definitely a lot fewer than in previous seasons. Think a lot of clubs are being cagey at the moment with covid, no fans and money worries, coupled with salary caps and squad number caps, it's just not moving as it would in a normal season. Clubs want to get players in before they let players out and there seems to be a log jam.

Matete has 1 football league start, I'm not sure many are aware of that. Not saying that you're not a good player if you're coming off the bench for a top half league 1 team at the age of 19 but it seems some people are expecting a lot from this lad based on this headline stat of 14 appearances in league 1. Hopefully we've picked up a gem and he can play with freedom and without fear but for me, he's not a player you look at and say, yes, that's someone who we should be expecting to come in and drag us up.

Bogle started their last match, so he's not that far down the pecking order.

A bit pedantic dissecting things word by word. If we are following such a trait, I actually made the point that we are the signing of the young lad from Hull, Giles Coke and a winger away from having a squad which I believe is capable of steering us to safety. If not him then we clearly still need a striker, as countless posters have pointed out. With those returning from injury and those brought in over the last 6 weeks (Morais included) we have 7/8 new players who could arguably be in the first 11. To return to my point we are 3 players away. A centre midfielder, a striker and a winger. Then, just like you immmariner, everything crossed. But I believe Hurst and Doig would steer us clear IF these additions were made.

you also have to throw the uncertainty over what's happening with the National Leagues into the mix - those 66 clubs would've been involved in transfers both in and out plus taking lower league players on loan

Hull's manager has ruled out loaning him out as he is part of their first team.
