Just caught the end of the headlines, not sure what the fine is about?

It's coming up on Look North (BBC 1 13:30)

(Edit: For breaching Covid safety rules)

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

Suspended  fine for breaking Covid rules at Cheapside and cancelling 3 games against Cheltenham, Bradford & Hull. And allowing players to congregate.
Holloway admitted playing darts with some players as part of a training excercise .FFS

Just under five grand fine plus having to pay the costs of the investigation and compensation to the three clubs.

Could've been much worse. Still, more reason, if any were needed, for the curtain to close on the current abysmal regime.

Not a politician going for a 7 mile bike ride, or going to Bristol from London for a photo op. Or another politician who is Leader of the House of Commons breaking the rules every week to go to church outside his locality.

The club should appeal on the grounds of discrimination.

Maybe a rumour but I’ve heard that the shite is going to hit the fan when they find out that 19 premier league players got together for a party over Christmas. Even one came in from Germany for it. 11 of the players have had Covid since

One thing I noticed under Holloway was when you saw clips from Cheapside there always appeared to be loads of player standing around doing f@%k all, well they do say approach training like you would a real game.

According to look north, the fine is five grand, plus costs of thirteen grand. On top of that we have to pay compensation to Hull Bradford and Cheltenham.  Over twenty grand! Good old football league, kicking a small team at the bottom of the league, take money off us when we have lost a large part of our income for the season.

We were probably the first to be fined because we were the first club to postpone matches weren’t we?

We've obviously done something wrong, but how is game of darts different to all sitting on the team bus or being in the same changing room?

They’re not in the same changing room though are they? They are split between the home and away changing room at BP and have to arrive and leave in training gear at Cheapside.

I think the slam dunk offence was the lack of a risk assessment though.

I think rather than the potential singling out of a little club or the arguable laughability of what the charge relates to in terms of a game of darts, it's more about the fact that we didn't fill in the risk assessment.

That's probably why no other club will get fined.  Because we're so bloody arrogant that we don't think the rules apply to us.  In the same way it's ok to sit together at home games (with or without a convicted fraudster).

I think it's a concerted attempt to make an example of us to, quite rightly, deter anyone else from thinking they can get away with being lax.

Only we would be stupid enough to allow ourselves to get fined like this. It's so typical of our whole approach. Car sharing, ie being cheapskates, and darts practice? I mean you couldn't make it up!

Unbelievable, even small youth / scout groups or tiny country churches with a handful of members manage to risk assess their activities in order to operate safely.

The fine is sickening, the outgoing regime should hang their heads in shame, but thank goodness it wasn't a points deduction.  That would have finished us.

The rules seem to have changed many times since this incident which took place whilst the rules were embryonic. Bit harsh, despite the incompetence

Do they have a covid inspector turning up at cheapside to check if any players are not playing football but are playing darts. ?

You would  think they would be in closer proximity  playing football than playing darts.

Then again !!!!

Celtic is the worst example
Utter arrogance
But - hey - throw the book at a small L2 club (and I know it's different leagues - but hope you see my point)

There's Hollow-word's bullshit again - to camera it's all crazy, madness, slagging others off...Covid blah blah

Behind scenes he's playing darts FFS!

A joke - things can certainly only get better

Could this also be part of the reason that Ollie bottled it, having been found to be playing darts in a group, knowing that some sort of backlash would be coming because of his inability to keep his team safe.

All the time he was here and this 'ere Covid thing was going on, Ollie was insisting (on camera) that everyone was keeping their distances and complying, and yet you watch him on his first TV appearance after leaving us, on Soccer AM and there he is high fiving, and grabbing and touching other people. At one point after high fiving, reality hit home and you could clearly hear him say that he needed to wash his hands. Such lackadaisical attitude shows how blind he is to the whole situation.

I suspect it was another way of saving money somehow. That seems to lie at the root of all our ills.

One day, we may make the headlines for a positive reason, like a cup giant killing or some such. We knew those running the club were incompetent, but feck me, it's never ending.

How much is the compensation? Whats it for?

Fulham had their game against Villa postponed yesterday and wer told to play Tottenham instead (tomorrow). 48 hours notice of changed planning/tactics/training routines etc.

Are Villa gonna compensate them for that?

I agree we probably messed up because it's what we do, but honestly, why are the rules different in the EPL than they are in the EFL?

The best part is we have only had 2 players with COVID, where other teams have had over a dozen infected but they did it properly, you can't make these things up.

Yeah, but ours was in September when infection rates were low.

It shouldn't do. We did make a profit last season.

Should come out of JF's pay off if there is any justice.

As stupid as the club have been what sense is there in the club being fined £18k plus told to play compensation? What if we weren’t such a prudent bunch of penny pinchers? This level of fine at our level could force a club out of business, ludicrous.

In reality there were other clubs, Stevenage?, who had players test positive but still played on but this  stance suited Hollowords and Days rhetoric that the season shouldn’t be taking place so we don’t want to play hence we didn’t have a pre-season.

The Man from EFL: Please can we see the Club’s risk assessment in respect of Covid 19?

Fenty: The Football Club’s risk assessment is done on the field

The Man from EFL: So you haven’t got one?

Fenty: That’s defamation. You’ll be hearing from my solicitor. Philip...Philip...?!!  The Man from the EFL just tried to touch me in my special place

From the BBC website:
"Quite honestly this should not have happened," chairman Philip Day told BBC Radio Humberside after the club were fined £4,880, which is suspended until June.

"We're disappointed because, prior to the players returning to training, we had put in place protocols which were approved by the EFL and we gave a full morning's training to the staff and players to ensure they were fully conversant with the protocol.

"The protocols are there for a purpose and they must be complied with. They're all adults, but sometimes you've just got to reinforce the message time and again."

Day also said the playing of darts was "unknown to the board and senior management" and was "really beyond the protocols".

"Olly [Holloway] used the playing of darts to build up team ethos and sadly he shouldn't have done it," he added.

Grimsby are also facing other costs, including an EFL bill of £13,000, believed to be the cost of the investigation, and reasonable costs incurred by the teams they were due to face at the time - Cheltenham Town, Bradford City and Hull City.

Obviously didn't work did it

It's a suspended fine though, just to June, so as long as we're good boys we won't have to pay it? Isn't that what suspended means?

It's a slap on the wrists really, more embarrassing than anything.

The inital fine is suspended, but the £13,000 bill incurred for EFL costs is still payable, at least as I understand it.

The statement by the board seems to be, yet again, confusing and incomplete.

1 they accept the ruling. Good if we were wrong
2 they accept the need for compensation to three clubs, but claim there was none?
3. They don’t mention the costs we are due to pay. Is it £13k or isn’t it.

Rule 1 if you are caught with your pants down. Confess, apologise and pay up.

I suspect we have half truths yet again, and am happy to be proved wrong.

from the GET article PD says this

Day also said the playing of darts was "unknown to the board and senior management" and was "really beyond the protocols".

but then if it was unknown to them how did he know why he played darts?

"Olly [Holloway] used the playing of darts to build up team ethos and sadly he shouldn't have done it," he added.

I would like to know how the league have worked out the costs to be thirteen grand. How an earth does it cost that amount is beyond me, that's an awful lot of tea and biscuits while they sit at their desks pontificating.  Town should ask for a detailed bill of how they get that figure before they pay it.

Nah, pay it and move along the longer this stays in the public eye the longer a shambles of a club we become and you just dont know if it has an impact to new signings etc.  We dont need anymore garbage media about our club unless its good news.

It’s the role of any employer to put a risk assessment together and ensure it is being correctly adhered to. Once again amateurish from the current board and the inability to accept any responsibility just makes them look even weaker.

I also dont think Town are the only club that will get fined, Stevenage, Bradford, Exeter have all had games postponed whether they followed guidelines will be down to an investigation.

Also when the EFL investigators found out about the darts did they ask Holloway directly when he was at the club or when he left do think?

Jeez - the historical buffoonery by those running our club becomes more evident. I really hope this is the last revelation of their apparent incompetence & dodgy dealings so that we can move on with some positivity.  The 13k+ we are going to have to fork out would have gone a long way towards affording a half decent player or two. This club is a total, unmitigated,  inexcusable embarrassment.

Maybe the new owners should forget the takeover, buy Cleethorpes Town or Grimsby Borough and let us all move on as Fenty FC rots.

I mean I’m not really going to add anything that hasn’t already been said but this is another one of those avoidable intercourse ups gtfc so blindly walk in it...time and time again.

I mean this list is endless but even within this fine and breach of rules there’s countless mistakes along the way...

So many people culpable too...

Assuming the fine will be deducted from the money Fenty will be extracting?

I doubt it.

I still want to hear him decline the £200k for the shares the Trust gifted to him. We could sign a couple of really good players with that.

Town are absolutely hilarious. Playing darts and lift sharing during a time we’re supposed to avoid close and physical contact with other people and the world’s most draconian safety officer not being arsed enough to put a risk assessment together. It could only be this club under it’s current ownership.

I wonder how many of those have not carried out a risk assessment or allow their manager to play darts.

Not for the first time in recent weeks, shambles seems to be much too polite a word to describe the affairs of our club. From what I've read this evening, I think we probably should consider ourselves fortunate the punishment was not more severe. Regardless of it being suspended, or whether any costs need to be paid to the other clubs concerned, this is not simply an embarrassment for our club. It is an incident that will, quite understandably, add fuel to the debate about whether elite sport should be continuing at the present moment.

I'm more inclined to point the finger of blame at other people for what happened before I look towards the board. But there seems to me to be a big gap between tonight's statement which says the board recognises it is ultimately responsible for the conduct of players and staff and the chairman's comments in a BBC Radio Humberside interview at the time in which he implied the postponement decision was taken in line with Football League guidance. Put simply, what did the board know about what had occurred and when did they know it? And did Holloway make his reported admissions while he was still in charge?

EFL are a joke, the reason we are hit with a fine, is because we called off the games, without getting permission from the EFL first.

List of the following who have broken Covid

Break Government guidelines, get caught, copy and paste an apology from your agent on social media, then carry on as normal. That is the way it seems to go.

Tottenham and West Ham condemned the actions of a number of their players after Giovani Lo Celso, Erik Lamela, Sergio Reguilon and Manuel Lanzini were pictured spending Christmas together with their families.

Manchester City also expressed their ‘disappointment’ after news emerged that defender Benjamin Mendy broke the rules by hosting a New Year’s Eve party with friends at his home.

It comes after high-profile cases of coronavirus protocols appearing to be breached last weekend. Championship club QPR admitted they should not have allowed their former player Eberechi Eze to attend their tie against Fulham.

Tammy Abraham, Ben Chilwell and Jadon Sancho are set to miss England’s friendly with Wales on Thursday after the number of recent unwanted incidents off the pitch forced Gareth Southgate to warn his squad about the standards of discipline he expects.

The England manager told the trio to stay away from St George’s Park yesterday after the FA began an investigation into the players attending a surprise 23rd birthday party for Abraham, which broke Covid-19 guidelines.

Gareth Southgate has vowed to protect Mason Greenwood and Phil Foden despite sending the players home after they disrupted England’s preparations for Tuesday night’s game against Denmark by inviting two women to the team hotel in Reykjavik, breaking coronavirus isolation rules. Although Southgate admitted that Greenwood, 18, and Foden, 20, were guilty of “naive” behaviour, England’s manager said he wants to shield them from criticism because of their age.

It did not sit right seeing Luka Milivojevic lead Crystal Palace out on Saturday after spending New Year’s Eve with Aleksandar Mitrovic, the striker of the club whose games are being postponed because of a Covid-19 outbreak.

Playmaker Jack Grealish was fined two weeks’ wages after attending a party during lockdown but he and Ross Barkley avoided punishment for eating at a restaurant together last month in contravention of London rules at the time.

Eight Aberdeen footballers have issued a joint apology for their trip to a city centre bar last weekend that breached lockdown guidelines.
Jonny Hayes, Michael Devlin, Scott McKenna, Matty Kennedy, Sam Cosgrove, Dylan McGeouch, Craig Bryson and Bruce Anderson all accepted they had made a "huge error in judgement" by visiting the venue together after the defeat to Rangers and exceeding the number of households allowed to meet.

Celtic defender Christopher Jullien tested positive for coronavirus following the controversial training camp in the UAE, with three members of staff including manager Neil Lennon and No. 2 John Kennedy along with 13 players having to self-isolate ahead of tonight’s league clash with Hibs.

Eight Aberdeen players who broke social distancing rules by going to a city centre bar on Saturday night have revealed their identities as they issued a grovelling apology for their actions.

The Manchester City and England full-back was forced to apologise in April after it was widely reported that he held a party at his Cheshire home in a blatant violation of the nation's lockdown measures.

David Luiz, Alexandre Lacazette, Nicoles Pepe, and Granit Xhaka were all caught breaking quarantine some time during April. Pepe was recorded playing football with friends, Luiz and Xhaka were seen meeting in a park, and Lacazette was photographed while talking to a valet.

Tottenham's players were spotted flouting social distancing rules as Jose Mourinho was seen working in a Barnet park with Tanguy Ndombele. Davinson Sanchez and Ryan Sessegnon were also caught by a social media user running side by side around the same park and Serge Aurier also posted a video of himself on Instagram jogging alongside another person. The club, who also reversed their decision to furlough staff following a backlash, underlined the Government's Covid-19 regulations to their players. But little over a fortnight later, Aurier was at it again, posting a video on his Instagram Story of him training with team-mate Moussa Sissoko before deleting it.

Everton labelled Kean's actions "unacceptable" after he filmed himself partying at home with guests in a breach of social distancing regulations. The Toffees said in a statement: "Everton Football Club was appalled to learn of an incident in which a first-team player ignored Government guidance and club policy in relation to the coronavirus crisis. The club has strongly expressed its disappointment to the player and made it clear that such actions are completely unacceptable."

Thousands of Liverpool fans gathered at Anfield to celebrate the club's first Premier League title. Supporters set off flares and fireworks.

Players spitting, hugging, celebrating after scoring (not applicable to Town, cannot score).

The list goes on.

After all his Covid bullshit, you sort of wondered if he was covering something up or running away from something. Regards the board, they are ultimately responsible.

You know what, if this is the final act of the long running tragedy, it’s only fitting that it’s another catastrofuck. It’s Delboy meets Partridge meets Bullseye.

List of the following who have broken Covid

To be fair, most if not all of those breaches are the individuals breaking the rules. It is difficult for a club to control their players’ private lives.

I agree the responses by the clubs to the transgressions were weak and embarrassing.

We have been fined and made a example of because we had no documented risk assessment, which probably contributed to the Club’s players and staff being exposed to unnecessary risk and the subsequent match compilations

Villa will have a documented risk assessment in place because they don’t have a myopic Board. Villa can’t do much to stop Jack Grealish parting the vulva in his private time or their players contracting Covid from other sources.

But if you don’t have the paperwork in place and are proven to have not followed the rules, you are liable to be fined.

Just grateful it wasn’t a points deduction or forfeit of points

We've obviously done something wrong, but how is game of darts different to all sitting on the team bus or being in the same changing room?

All involve a lot of prix. If it’s a sackable offence we could save paying them off.

You could not make it up.

Fenty, Fenty, Fenty. Your malign influence permeates every corner of the club. You control the club. What goes on within it is your responsibility ultimately. If you'd got a decent stadium manager and sorted out that berk who got us fined over the Port Vale fiasco the other year, this might nor have happened. It's all of a piece with the fine we got for tapping up Scott & Hurst while they were at Boston. The same shabby behaviour. All these fines add up, to say nothing of the damage to the club's reputation - that will cost us far more.

And we're damned lucky not to be facing a points deduction and interest from the HSE.

Hand the keys in as soon as possible, and give those shares back to the Trust.

That's the funniest(yet sad) post i have ever seen on here. If that joke of a board ever stand up again, to represent this club(please God no), then every one present should have this tune loaded on their phones and start playing it on a continuous loop until they sit down.

The key thing in that Look North item is the fact only two players needed to self-isolate if we followed the protocol, not the whole squad. So the games were abandoned unnecessarily. Just another Holloway fuckup.

How many said at the time this had all the hallmarks of a GTFC intercourse up?

Instead a fair few went at the EFL instead. We can cry bottom about their rules and implementation of them but in this instance we only have ourselves to blame.

It just highlights again how incompetent and what sort of mess the club is in. We banked on the season never starting hence furloughing everyone it sight and offering ridiculous Covid contracts, the season did start and the people in charge had to cobble something together; the effects of which are now being witnessed...

This whole sorry mess has just reminded me of the ‘Holloway’ interview where he said ‘my chairman is one one the cleverest people I know and he says why don’t we infect all the young people so they are immune.’

Didn’t think he’d put that into practice with our own players though.

Aren't Celtic covered by the Scottish FA and as such judged differently. I know it's wrong but that's how it is unfortunately.

That was sort of the point I was making. We didn’t need to cancel games but we either stupid or wilfully ignorant of the rules.

Credit where it's due for a change. Frank Lampard is in the news this morning saying that he's adjusting Chelsea's regime to focus on not celebrating goals during matches.

We've been doing that for months.

Our approach in that regard has been textbook risk management.

First eradicate the risk.

What's  Nick Dale's responsibility with all this as I thought he was the man in charge of all things Covid related.

I spoke to Nick Dale about this tonight and, for the record, he was on extended sick/compassionate leave at the time so was nothing to do with the breaches made in his absence. He is going regularly to Cheapside now he's back at work and things are being done by the book under the new management regime.

In that case I withdraw my implied criticism of him for this member-up.

Someone else at the club is to blame them.

Who knows, however, when you think about it, we might find out if those folk are any good at their jobs if they’re kept on.

It’s all very apparent that Fenty ran the whole kit and caboodle and those people were in roles because they needed to be.

It’s sad the Dale was off and I’m sure nobody would wish him ill but I suspect that even had he been at work the whole debacle would’ve still happened, for a multitude of reasons, namely because he’s made mistakes that are Fenty-esque in their design.

That said, as many have said, this whole farce stops at the feet of Fenty and Holloway.

We’ll look back in 20/30 years and just wonder how we ever survived Fenty but then what an absolute disaster and cretin Holloway was. Will folk who literally think Fenty saved us still think it?
