We've been conditioned by years of penny pinching to accept average as good. A lot of our younger fans have never seen proper footballers. They would be gobsmacked to see a Whymark, Birtles, Futcher, Waters etc etc.


Wouldn't it be nice to think we can bring in that quality? Very few players step down to finish the careers as they earn so much money at the higher levels these days which is another really sad thing about the lunacy of footballers wages. The good players & pros that dropped down would put bums on seats and have a great influence on their team mates, I can't remember his exact words but Kevin Drinkell went on record as saying how good he thought Whymark was in the first training session he saw him in,.  

We won't be getting the likes of Amond, Toto, Nolan back but Hurst will do his best to bring in a mix of experience and hopefully one or two like Townsend who showed his ability and confidence even at that age.

You say that, but if you take his penalty goal off his total this season Mattie Pollock is only 1 league goal behind him.

i imagine he’s a big earner at newport if he’s on the bench they might look to off load him
He knows the club the area the manager he would come here he would be my first choice.
