No backup centre back. Must plan on shifting Hewitt in there if required.

Fingers crossed for a fighting performance and 3 points.

That is a much stronger bench. Let's hope they are not needed though.

For the last few seasons we seem to have struggled with injuries. Hendrie Wright Hanson and Scannell would strengthen this massively.  Why do we have so many injuries?  Back in the 70s and 80s we had half the team going ever present through the season.

Thought Morais was meant to be straight on, shame to see him on the bench.

Glad to see Jackson Jr in the squad. Must have done enough in training to impress Ollie.

Taylors got to have something on Olly to keep making the squad

I don't mind Roy Keane making £60,000 a week. I was making the same when I was playing. The only difference was I was printing my own - Mickey Thomas

The area you are trying to protect at corners is the goal - Chris Kamara

Whilst i havnt been his biggest fan so far i thought he was probably one of the better ones on the ball on Tuesday, seemed to gel quite well with Bennett.

Bennett is such a fuckin bone idol twit

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

It'd be nice if Clifton would stop repeatedly giving away stupid fouls while we've got them under pressure up the top end of the pitch.

Can we end the Terry Taylor experiment and ship him back off to Wolves please. The lad can barely kick a ball properly - what's his role in the team? Completely perplexed by him.

Get Edwards on for Taylor, he'll have a ball against this Mansfield side

Bennett has got a bit of quality when he gets on the ball, but he trots about like he's having a potter around a car boot sale. No urgency at all from him.

2 average teams, we need to win this just need someone on the field with pace to run at them, as their defence looks a bit dodgy. And F Taylor off back to U23 football as thats the way he plays, backwards, sidewards and at a stroll.

2 below average teams, but it's definitely winnable!

Mansfield starting the second half far better than us, get Edwards on Ollie asap to start causing them problems ffs.

Bit harsh that attacking players play on confidence if we tried playing Williams and Windsor every week I believe it would come! In those two you’ve got technical skill and endeavour!

That may be the case but as of now we are very bad up front

Looking at the replay he looked offside when the ball was played

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.

Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Week in, week out.  Jackson just lost us possession in the final third. Their defender had already headed it out.

What on earth is Holloway shouting at or even shouting? That isn’t passion, just sounds like desperation.

We give away so many daft free kicks.

Once again, we’ve had a couple of chances but don’t put them away...

I’m just pleased we created some chances. Think the Tilley/Pollock sub didn’t help as Hewitt was doing well in the middle but maybe Pollock had a knock.

Morais looked like he can deliver a good cross and pleased Jackson scored.

possibly but morais and edwards definitely improved us, and even Tilley was far more effective than Bennett.
think we can take  a bit of confidence from that ( and it takes us another game closer to January)

Should of won, the run for the penalty the guys a couple of feet offside. Thought Jackson looked decent, Hewitt and Clifton are must haves and Edwards caused them problems as well. Didn't really notice Morais to be honest but for that great cross soon after he came on. We really are in a relegation scrap got to win a couple of games by Christmas.

They are actually in decent form since Clough went there and have only lost 1 game in their last 6, and that was only 1-0.

They are 11th in the form table. We are now 22nd, so the fact we made them look quite lame is a decent sign. I think we will get better as time goes on.

Was going to post similar ,  although it took a substitute to convert a chance the flood of subs in a short period disrupted us more than anything.

Unfortunatley Clifton at right back was the one playing them onside for their penalty , a more experienced right back/ defender may have stood firmer in line with the rest of the back four , his first instinct is to chase.

All in all a better performance and if we had been more ruthless in the first half should have been an easy 3 points.

Great for Jackson to come on and get a goal.

I felt sorry when Bennett was subbed in the first half, possibly on his first outing but today he was not in the right frame of mind. Windsor unlucky, hardly had a decent ball second half but Gibson held it well. Hope Jackson makes the next squad. Morais not a defensive player, would have had Tilley earlier.

First half we slowed it down with back to the keeper who wacked it anyway and looked in no hurry to take the corner with seconds to go before half time.

Edwards has to start next game. Rose and Taylor not providing enough protection for defence. I like how Hewitt looks for the runs of forward players.

Prefer Edwards as an impact sub. Had plenty of starts and done little with them really, looks flash but nothing at the end of it.

Thought that was better.. Waterfall definitely mom for me think we are screwed if he gets injured etc.. the 3 subs second half seemed to help we had hardly got in there half for 10 mins after the break. Really pleased for Jackson with the goal

Tho I hate VAR think we could have done with it today looked offside to me tho camera angle not the best.

upon reflection a lot more pluses than negatives
hewitt & waterfall throughout
williams in the first half particularly
clifton did as well as can be expected, filling in
morais looks very decent
ira was a bit of presence, plenty of energy and getting the goal must have sent his confidence soaring
thought that even Gibson looked a lot more effective and 'at it'
good news that Tilley returned and did some good things
Edwards is a livewire and gave them real problems, 2 great curled shots at the end, and was very unlucky not to score

ps noticed there was far less Fanny ing around at the back and we were a lot more direct. tried lots of long diagonals , which i am sure Holloway got us doing at the back end of last season

Thought we weren’t too bad and deserved a point, Impressed with the impact Edwards out of all our loan signings he looks by far the most promising. I’d like to see more of Jackson and Gibson  too.

Bennett was poor as was Taylor I think we should be looking at sending them back to their clubs, Southend winning today worries me as Tuesday is a game we cannot lose and winning today will give them a big boost and they’ll fancy beating us.

First half I thought 2 very poor sides.

2nd half both teams improved slightly, we looked a bit more dangerous after the 4 changes but overall I didn't really see anything that would suggest we will be moving up the table anytime soon.

Tuesday's game against Southend very important after their win today.

When did that happen? 😀😀😉

Boom Boom

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

From the Mansfield forum
"The poorest weve played under Clough against the worst team we've played all season. A tenner well spent".

Second game running that's the opposition's view. Couldnt argue with that either. Makes me weep when I watch the "on this day" clips of the Buckey era and the football on view! No wonder he gave up commentary! I could give up football all together.

well the worst team should have won because they never worked our goalkeeper all 90 mins apart from pen which by the way was offside in build up, take a point today against a team with top 3 budget ln whole of league , some decent play at times admittadly against the worst side i'v seen visit blundell park this season

maybe our pressing didn’t allow them to play any better?, good closing down by the likes of Hewitt etc.

No he wasn't, just played the highlights back with freeze frame and he was just onside as he ran between Pollock and Preston. If I knew how to do a screen grab I would upload it.

We've got 2 very versatile players in Hewitt and Clifton as was shown yesterday. Neither stops working whatever their position.

To be fair however bad this season has been I don’t think we’ve got any players on our books that are just going through the motions , I believe they’re all given their best , it just a question whether their best is good enough

No problem fc, I thought he looked off-side as well till I could access the highlights, a wonderfully timed run and pass or just lucky
