Grimsby are a mid table LG2 club. At  worst they are a national lg north club . That's the harsh reality of where they are now . IH isn't going to fix this .

I think at best a mid table league 1 club. Look at the good fan base and the history of the club. A lot of players pick up on that. I noticed one of our most recent signings did as well.

Based on what ? . The investment over the last 15 years wouldn't get us near lg1 .

Fan base. A lot of our attendances are some of the best in league 2 particularly away.

Ask Sunderland and Bradford how much attendances count for anything.

Makes a difference though to some players at all levels of the game though. You only need to ask Fernando Torres when he use to play at Liverpool or other players who have played at clubs lower down the pyramid. When they feel loved and wanted by manager and fans alike players thrive. Likewise some clubs have a more passionate/vocal set of supporters than others. I feel our club is one such club. Grimsby is not the most affluent place and the club serves as a  joy/hope/community to the local people.

Under the current regime your probably right

This is one of those “if things stay as they are it will be the same” kind of threads.

If the club suddenly got £Xm input from somewhere the situation would be different.
If the club suddenly lost its main backer without replacement the situation would be different.

There is no sense to saying what the club is, other than it is at this moment in the sh!t.

We are indeed, but before this shower of s**t started I was surprised how high we were in the all-time league standings. The last 15 or more years has really made things look a lot worse than was historically the case.

We will rise again as they say.

Attendances now don't count for anything. The salary cap put paid to that small advantage we had in this division. Instead of just spending within our own means, by voting for it our club shot itself in the foot as location becomes even more important to a player as everyone can offer the same lower level of wages. And if the cap remains, what's the point of a new stadium or new investment? All that potential added income and we couldn't spend it on playing budget to progress up the leagues. As it stands at this moment in time, we've dug a self-inflicted hole for us for many years to come..

We're in a division where 4 teams go up and 2 go down. It's the best division to be in! We're definitely capable of ending in the top 7 and the bottom 2 is always a possibility. I can't see us lasting more than a couple of seasons in League One, especially with 4 going down. I reckon the lower leagues will be restructured in the next 10 years so hopefully there won't be such a terrible trapdoor as we have now.

I am a bit confused with this salary cap say we sell a player for 3 million what can we do with the e x tra money we have sitting in the bank ?

Would agree with that. At the time I think I mentioned it was a short-sighted attempt to address the wrong problem, and a way of dragging other clubs down rather than dragging ourselves up.

As for the the idea that our fans drive the team on to victory through positive vibes and adulation, I don’t think that’s entirely accurate. Ask most people and they’ll tell you that attending BP is a drab, largely boring, soulless affair. It’s emblematic of the larger malaise surrounding the club. You could probably count on one hand the times you’ll encounter a decent atmosphere at BP each season. Even when we were winning comfortably under Hurst in the Conference, most celebrations seemed pretty muted and it wasn’t rare for some players to get dogs’ abuse.

In my opinion, a lot of the lack of atmosphere at BP is because it's an all-seater

When standing was allowed, people generally tended to congregate together to get the singing going whereas now you have small pockets of vocal support dotted here and there

We're victims of our past success.... had we not been in the second tier when the decision was made to do away with standing and we'd maybe been allowed to revert from seats back to standing areas as we fell by three tiers, then we might have a better vibe about the place

Ive heard its bad yes but thats not the case across the board for big clubs here or abroad. Ive been to a few matches from the premiership down to league 2 . Man utd are  pretty vocal and Bristol Rovers fans were quite good with their rendition of Jeff Becks  hi ho silver lining . I  think some of the best in the UK have to be Liverpool fans  especially on champions leagues nights when they  sing you'll never walk alone or the fields of Athenry .
