Set to be announced this afternoon that crowds up to 4,000 (which will depend on capacity etc) can return after lockdown.
The caveat will be that this will only apply to low risk areas but in the midst of what seems to be one bout of bad news after another, this finally seems to be the start of what we’ve all been waiting for, the return of fans to football grounds.

Balls in our court now. Hands, face, space. Is it more important to go see your family or go watch Town? Etc etc

What is it like in Grimsby now is the virus still on the rise .?
Four games before Christmas could be what the players need a bit of vocal support.

Case numbers reducing Pete but zero chance of us being in the low risk bracket.

Did we sell less than 2,000 season tickets, or will there be a lottery for seats should we be in tier 2? Can't remember how many we sold.

I wonder what the conditions of the capacity are. 4,000 people in Blundell Park is considerably less distanced than 4,000 at Valley Parade.

Doesn't make sense really does it.... Barrow have a capacity just over 4,000. If they were to find themselves in Tier One, unlikely I know, they could reach nearly 100% capacity. Whereas Bolton, again if in Tier 1, would only be allowed 14% of their capacity.

NE Lincs currently has c500 cases per 100,000 of population so not far from what Liverpool was before lockdown so I wouldn't get too excited. It's also "up to" certain numbers. Maybe 10 or 20% of overall capacity, I'd be amazed if more than 1800 were allowed into Blundell Park before New Year and probably less than that.

Announcement of Tiers on Thursday. Likelihood that most will be in the higher areas.
Tiers will be determined on numbers per population who have tested positive for Covid but also current strains on NHS in that area.
Potential for movement down (and up) the tiers.

Only half heard it but sounds like wholescale community testing (like what they've had in Liverpool) for all Tier 3 areas (which is what we're likely to fall into).

They said there was potential for movement up and down last time but continued to keep the north in lockdown regardless. Places such as Kirklees have been in restrictions since March now.

The good thing is though we have fans all over the place so those fans not in a top tier county living away would hopefully be able to go and cheer the team on, let’s hope so anyway.

As per usual with this government, it’s another badly thought through policy. Some clubs will benefit from being in Tiers 1 & 2 with home fans backing them, sadly we won’t.

I think it will state they will have to be social distance between each fan , Blundell Park would be less than 2,500 so no idea how many a club like Barrow could get in. There looks to be a office block at one end of the ground.

It is actually bad news for the club isnt it ? At the moment they have the money from ST sales in the bank and have very little matchday costs to eat into it......if they are able to open the ground they wont get any additional income from sales as it will only be the season ticket holders allowed in but they will have to man every stand, turnstyles, etc etc and unless the stewards are working for free then its only going to cost us money rather than generate it.

If we have sold 1400 ST's, then there will be scope for a few hundred match day ticket sales.

Yes, even if we were in the lowest tier the club would have the Main stand condemned so we couldn't play. Saving money comes first. Fans come last.

I think thats only a slim possibility, probably more effort than its worth for the club in reality, ticket office open , printing tickets, turning the office lights on, printer ink, staff drinking cups of tea and eating biscuits on their break...all adds up you know.

Sorry - since we're in a public health emergency for at least another three months, how is it badly thought through to minimise infections by limiting crowds. Presumably you thought that allowing the Cheltenham Festival to take place and for 3,000 Real Madrid fans into Liverpool earlier this year was a great idea?

It would definitely have been a bad idea to let 3,000 Real fans attend a Liverpool vs Atlético match

If Grimsby in Tier 2 (minimum) so perhaps 2000 allowed, will all games still be on iFollow? (What was the cut off criteria?)

All league games were shown on iFollow pre Covid. I suspect the audience size was far smaller and focused on us overseas supporters, so wouldn’t expect that service to change.
Coming to think about it, I think the only improvement on iFollow since Covid is replays. We previously had to rewind !!

If and when we get back in tier 2 and are allowed 2000 fans in the ground, the 1400 STH might not take up the chance to visit the ground if a) they don't feel it is safe enough and b) they can still watch the match on iFollow in the warmth of their house.
There may be upward of a thousand spaces available for each home game, but will GTFC still take the 1400 as being expected to turn up?

Wonder what crowd restrictions there will be on Dido Harding's horse racing, bet it won't be so draconian for them.

It was only available to overseas viewers before Covid, except for the odd midweek game.

Ooh tier this, tier that, 4000 here, 2000 there. They take everything away from us in all aspects of life then sit back and sneer at us fighting over every little scrap they deign to throw back at us. I don't understand what's going on in this world but it's nothing to do with our wellbeing.

If there was ever a case of cure being worse than the disease this is it
|
| In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions. Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them. GOD |

I heard the Colchester United owner on the radio this morning saying that their first match after lockdown will be home to Grimsby and he didn't know whether and how many fans would be allowed in. Covid rates in Colchester are quite low at 75 per 100,000 of the population so that may be a possible start.
Mind you now many people turn up at Colchester at the best of times

Will there be a draw for ST holders? The losers have to go and see the game live?

At the moment if I were to get a ticket I wouldn't pass it on to friends - enemies maybe but not friends I think anyone would have to be there on the day as like many clubs they won't know how many ST holders are going to turn up. Anyone trying can use my postcode if asked if the Suffolk tier rating is OK. Essex based exiles should be alright I would have thought. Suffolk and London exiles will depend ont hat fat twit Boris's tier announcement on Thursday.

Not sure this will be the case. We went into Tier 2 as a region because they look at stuff like transport links and how many people would move between the two places regularly. We have a direct bus route to Hull and there are hundreds if not thousands who cross the bridge every day into and out if Lincs for work. Lincolnshire being entirely blue won’t save that with the rates.

Tier decision tomorrow to find out what tier we’re in from Weds but it is reviewed on the 16th. So likely to be tier 3 tomorrow but could drop to tier 2 just in time for Scunny at home with a huge 2000 fans in. Big effort everyone!

It’ll be interesting to see what ridiculous and draconian measures they attempt to impose on people when they open stadiums...
The contradictions are becoming all the more obvious now.
At least Saturdays will go back to normal...it’s much more fun walking back in the cold, chuntering about how excrement we were rather than just turning the laptop off...

I heard a news report on Radio X a few days ago that said every EFL club has agreed that any match planned for this coming Tuesday that is due to take place in a tier 1 or 2 area will be put back 24 hours to the Wednesday to allow fans in.
Let’s see which tier Cleethorpes is in and whether GTFC are actually ready to allow fans in on Wednesday if allowed.

Highly unlikely with hospital full which, as I understand, is a major criterion.

Numbers on a steady decline, albeit over a short period. Number of cases in the area dropping quite a bit too. Although we still have one of the higher rates of infection in the country, things appear to heading in the right way (purely in terms of numbers). Any areas that are put into Tier 3 will have the rapid community testing in place. I can't imagine there's the resource to do that in too many places, so this and with how the numbers are going I wouldn't at all be surprised to see North East Lincolnshire in Tier 2.

I think we'll be in tier 3. We are currently having more deaths in our local hospitals than at any time during lockdown 1, and we are one of the highest infection rates in the country. The government have also said the tiers will be stricter than before lockdown.

Manchester, Birmingham and Leeds also in Tier 3. The rapid-testing is going to be interesting!

Taking missing a few Town games out the picture, this might be better for the area. It means we'll get rapid testing which has had a huge impact in Liverpool. It should also mean there's increased financial support. From an incredibly selfish point of view I was hoping we would be back in Tier 2 and could watch the games against Exeter (if moved), Newport and Mansfield in person. But I'll happily take this area getting the extra support and then going into the Xmas period (where everything is going to be relaxed regardless) and watching the Scunny and Bradford games back to back.

Hull asked for rapid testing kits and were given 10,000, despite having the highest rate in the country, and a population of 250,000. Pathetic really. Will us being in tier 3 have us at a disadvantage again, as other sides will be able to get some fans in and make a bit more income?

Dunno....
Hard to say without seeing who's in what Tier. But with the relatively low numbers, I think it's 2,000 or 50% capacity, whichever is lower, for some clubs I wonder if it could make them financially worse off. Matchday costs will increase but with very limited income. Take a bigger brain than mine to work it out all out, including taking away the potential income from iFollow too.

That's a real concern. With some really big cities in Tier 3, can see us getting completely forgotten about when it comes to the testing.

Allocating areas to tiers is all well and good but hasn't Barmy Boris said it's OK to tear up all the tier rules for 5 days 'because it's Christmas' (pathetic) hug Grandma and sit next to a three times removed cousin at a crowded dining table and don't worry about the consequences until mid-January.

Manchester have been royally screwed. They have a lower R rate than London but are in a tier higher, presumably to spite Andy Burnham. As for NE Lincs, it's a shame but probably necessary to give the local economy a chance at Christmas. Hopefully we'll see crowds at BP in time for the new year.

Yes absolutely pathetic idea, Boris should have waited to see what happens in America 2 weeks after Thanksgiving, watch the cases spike over there, the same will happen here mid Jan.

Will being in Tier 3 help the NE Lincs economy during the Christmas trading period? Won’t Christmas be over, save for the 5 days of Coronavirusmas, before Tier 3 regions get promoted to Tier 2

No idea. Tier 3 means smaller businesses can re-open, unless I'm mistaken. If we're bumped up to tier 2 in mid-December, I would imagine that's preferable to being in tier 2 now but then having heavier restrictions reapplied during peak retail trading. I could be wrong, but that's what I was getting at.

Nice. Even tho they will all be home fans, still think it will be a good thing for Holloway and our lads.

Under the current rules, our next two away games (Colchester and Southend) will both have 2,000 fans there.
For the first game with fans Colchester are limiting it to ST holders only up to a maximum of 1000 (I don't think they've sold that many yet) They also have some sort of 'not quite a ST scheme for 5, 10 or 15 matches so they may get the 1000 but that's the limit Up to 2000 for the second and subsequent matches tho'

In tomorrow’s Mirror, Marcelo Bielsa has stated fans for all clubs or no clubs. It’s a point I passionately agree with. No club should be benefiting from Covid to the detriment of others.

Dropping very nicely at the minute. Continue the trend and helped by growing backbench dissent I can’t see why not.

I think it's fair to think we'll be back in for the Scunny and Bradford games, indeed the Oldham and Cambridge games following.
However, with the pending relaxing (both rules and compliance) over Xmas, it's fair to say we'll see another spike in January. Cambridge (16th Jan) and Stevenage (30th) are the home games in that month. I'd be surprised if we're not back in some sort of lockdown by the time the next home game (Tranmere, 13th Feb) comes around. What Tier that will be is anyone's guess...

Depends on how the Govt review geographical Tiers in the review as both Lincoln and Boston are both still rising so if Greater Lincolnshire is maintained that could scupper things but if they go down to District Council levels to determine tiers things will be much rosier for a number of areas. Daughter is a nurse and she says the hospitals in Lincoln and Boston are both choc a bloc with COVID patients so not looking good for my Christmas Dinner in local village pub!!!!!

Exactly why I put the bit about backbench dissent. The countywide restrictions aren’t popular with a large group of Tory MPs so maybe there will be a change on the policy before the review. We’ve had a huge drop off up here since they decided we’d be tier 3 - it’s dropping around 30% a day which will put us well into the 100s per 100k for the next review so I’m pretty hopeful I’ll be back at BP for the derby.

No chance it’ll be Scunny either, we’d have a days notice to get it organised.

I don't get it? Colchester allowed 2000 today, but say it's 1000 but are expecting around 800 ?

Grimsby Town are the visitors on Saturday evening as the U's look to extend their unbeaten home record in the league in front of almost 1,000 U's fans.
https://www.cu-fc.com/news/2020/december/grimsby-preview/I am sure if we were allowed 2000 fans, we would have 2000 at the game.

It states the tiers will be reviewed BY the 16th so you'd like to think we'd have a little notice. They could for the first game simply allow it to be season ticket holders only

Although the tiers are being reviewed mid December, newspapers report it is highly unlikely Lincolnshire will be lowered to tier 2.

You beat me to it. Spot on. I watched the Arsenal game with them all separated and muzzled up, two thousand in a 60k stadium. They keep banging on about football being nothing without the crowds but deride people who say football is nothing now.

Maybe that although people want their football back they don't want it under those sterile circumstances.

I think the sterile conditions and the over the top approach to safety will ultimately put folk off.
Whilst I’m sure many will argue the need for the ‘rules’, it’s simply going to take away from the experience. Even though the football is often dire, the day is sometimes much more than that.
The thought of someone telling me when I can and can’t leave a stadium or when I should arrive and so forth seems extremely controlling.
I think there’s also a possibility of tempers boiling over too, those folk who just wanna plough on; those who are obsess with the virus and safety and the stewards, who let’s face it, have locked interpersonal skills in the games before this, can’t see that changing.

A fair assessment. Some are desperate to get back in to a ground & others won't be bothered with experience on offer.

I’m not sure the current administration will want us back until they can get more than sth’s in. They won’t make any more money on the gate and the costs will be more.
Looking at the unrest with the current regime on social media over the weekend, that could be the straw that breaks the camels back. Personally I think the club will do everything they can to get fans back in. Encouraging that the Trust are saying plans are already in action. Regards the Tiers. I'm really failing to see how we won't be moved into Tier 2. All the numbers are heading in the right direction, the laws are going to be relaxed at Christmas (rightly or wrongly) and arguably most importantly, in this context, the Government are facing internal rebellion over the current restrictions. Not at all convinced the review will be completely led by the science or numbers, but more Boris and his mob trying to save their skin. They're already taking a battering over this and the pending failure to secure a Brexit deal in time will add even more pressure on them.

The only place where crowds are allowed to return en masse, is anywhere that sells Christmas tat. Nottingham outdoor market for instance. What did they think would happen? Massive crowds gathered in London and all the big cities at the weekend, but controlled football matches- no sir, too dangerous.
We are now in tier 3 but there are more people about than ever. Meggies was rammed yesterday. It's ridiculous.

Did anyone see the scenes outside Harrods? Neither Ministers or media prepared to call out the selfish behaviour of the younger demographics. Very few masks, crowded together and refusing to move when asked. Why have we given 5 days freedom to the infantile, materialistic, dumbed down hordes to superspread the virus? I don't get the Hollywood white Xmas dependency at the best of times but Boris thought he had to give a mental health boost to the plebs I guess. Personal responsibility went down the toilet years ago to be replaced by entitlement run riot. The heroes working solidly to get us through this will barely get a break at all.

I don't know what it's like in Grimsby, but I've been out and about near me a few times during the lockdown for work and the vast majority of the people out in shops were old people. Mostly in places like B&M, B&Q, garden centres and the other "essential" shops that sell non essential things. Buying Christmas tat and just having a day out the house. It doesn't excuse what younger people are doing, but since the whole lockdown is because old people are at a high risk, it'd be nice if they'd show a bit of adherence to the rules and let those of us with minimal risk get back to our lives.

'A bit of adherence'? The rules in Tier 3 Sheffield allow me to lawfully visit all of the above. I go on 10 mile hikes over the Peak District with one other person and take garden rubbish to the tip. Tomorrow, my wife and I will celebrate her 70th birthday with a flask of coffee near Stanage Edge. If I was in Cleethorpes I might have a stroll on the beach. I'm very happy to allow you to get on with your life but don't lecture us 70 plussers. We do wear masks, we don't attend raves and try to avoid hospitals. You appear not to understand the modes of transmission which have led to the spikes in both 'waves' so far. Crowded social contact in hospitality settings, indoor work areas, multi generation living, care homes, school busses on rural to urban routes, hospital wards and non symtomatic workers like yourself unable to access testing. A great proportion of elderly are self isolating by choice or medical necessity. For every rascal nipping to the garden centre there will be 20 confined to their homes. Middle class retired couples like us have been fortunate to a degree and we have been guilty of a few sly meet ups with grand kids socially distanced with no hugs. There are very few saints in all this but very few of the miscreants have been over 60.

Well said Croxton. It will be interesting to see how these "younger" generations behave over the festive period
I always thought the restrictions were to protect the NHS, how wrong I was

Jesus, talk about divide and conquer.
This isn't about age. It's about a virus that is dangerous. It saddens me when people are buying into these distraction techniques. There's selfish people of all ages and generations, people who either don't care or are arrogant enough to think they won't be affected. That's it.

We may not always agree but I echo your observations to be honest...

Well I haven't seen any pictures of lots of geriatrics falling out of pubs all drunk up hugging each other. Also when walking about town it is usually older people who move to one side as opposed to many younger ones who don't seem to give a toss.
