After what seems like an age English football is back Live on TV, just thought I would start a thread to discuss the games if anyone is interested.

I haven't got SKY so just started listening to Villa v Sheff Utd on 5 Live Sport.

Arsenal could do Liverpool a favour later with a win at Man City.

League Two play-offs tomorrow night.

Sounds like Villa should have been awarded a penalty.

Stuck a bet on Arsenal to beat City later. 15-2 odds seemed very generous given the potential for unpredictability after the season pause and Bundesliga matches suggesting being at home isn't the advantage it once was.

Expect a City 4-0 win now.

Has goal line technology been furloughed or does the ball have to go two metres over the line due to social distancing?!

Saying stuff like the goal line tech is working for the second half doesn’t do much to persuade me that Michael Oliver didn’t have his watch turned on. Being the difference between clubs qualifying for Europe or not was the very reason the technology has been brought in and it could have backfired spectacularly for Sheff Utd.

Am I the only who just couldn't give a toss about the Premiership?

Football without fans there is totally meaningless.

No Jock you are not the only one. It is a massive waste of time. I would not give the droppings from my nose end or any other end to watch it.

Ooh, good call, just lumped 20 at 8-1 with Ladbrokes but as you say City 4-0, probably by half time.

The title of the thread shows this thread will be about the football that restarts today - may be best not to click on it if all you’re going to do is whinge about it. For example: I don’t click anything about Auchie bloody Talbot.

I've been watching the Polish premier league on Freesports in the nether regions of the telly channels over the last few weeks but glad the premier league is back. Silly amounts of money aside with the PL I just like watching football.

That's a good night's work. On as a substitute, give away a goal, give away a penalty and get sent off with over half an hour still to play. But still, he's won countless trophies, league titles in numerous countries, champions league, Europa league etc.

Mad.

I was quite excited at first - normally I dont watch Prem League apart from the occasional MOTD...... so I shelled out £30 for the NOW TV monthly pass.

I last 30 mins of the Villa/Sheff game and then had about 15 mins of the Man City game on...... and then it was back to "ah yeah, I'd rather spend time with my kids having a BBQ"

I didn’t hate watching it because I have a hatred for the premier league...if people dislike it that much they should’ve realised it wouldn’t have been any different.

I think it was just proof that teams and players aren’t arsed about finishing the season.

Their so called glorious technology failed miserably costing a team a valuable goal, the quality was somewhat lacking and the lack of a crowd just made it odd.

Both games had a pre season feel about them, couple that with arsenal convoluted travel plans and those horrific ‘Sky VIP’ screens behind the goal and it was just a cringey experience. I’ve not doubt the quality is likely to improve but it just seemed to lack any kind of excitement.

If anyone wants to hear a fan point of view in Italy I’d suggest checking out the statement by SPALs ultras about the whole thing. It’s the most eloquent statement released by a fan group ever...

Here’s the translation....

Football is not a theatrical representation. The shirts we support are the colors of a city, they are the symbols of a deep bond of belonging between the territory and its people, and not simply costumes to be worn by the actors of a company. The stadiums are monuments steeped in history and not cardboard scenographies to be moved according to a script already written. Finally the public, who does not assist in football but participates. It does not follow a story but is part of it, and even has the ambition to determine it.

With this in mind, the only one that belongs to us, we can only follow up on the first release of the Curva Ovest of April 2, 2020 regarding the suspension of the championship. The current context empties football of any content as far as we are concerned. We are less interested in the game, ranking and category than before, if the direction in which the recovery is moving is that of an aseptic show, for the benefit of empty or partially empty stands. We have heard gruesome hypotheses about the possible reopening in the last few days. Well, we make it clear right away that the quota and the distancing of the public go against all the principles of aggregation that we have always supported. We will not use any voucher, no credit formula, no title.

If we can't hug each other after a victory or wave our flags in the face of a defeat - and do it all together as it always has been - we prefer not to be there at all. Our material (banners, scarves, banners) will not color the curve to make television footage more palatable, because it would lose its meaning. The ultras and the fans in general are not an ornamental element of live football, they are a pillar.

Of course we cannot impose our line of thought on anyone, but the battle we have been waging for years against this form of theatricalization of football has reached a decisive turning point. We will never be accomplices of a pilot project of social distancing, aimed not too veiled at the standardization of the customer-football and which goes to the detriment of that folklore and that story that instead cheering represents. On this stance we expect the solidarity of those close to us and the respect of all the others, and we will not accept that the steps of the West (at least those) suffer the humiliation of a contingent population, made up of spectators seated and distant, at regardless of our absence.

We would like to continue our aggregation work outside the stadium, to create unity in the spalling cheer, to bring people closer to the world of the curve. We would like to have you all in place and show how accessory the game is compared to the values we support, and not vice versa. But currently the safety conditions do not allow it and you can continue to attend it in compliance with the rules but without the possibility of organizing collective gatherings, therefore you just have to distance yourself from the established media circus and invite you to do the same. Boycotting televisions, ignoring an indistinguishable championship from a video game, and despising prepackaged behavioral and consumerist models both within and outside the home. If this emergency becomes an excuse to transform Mazza and the other stadiums into many outdoor theaters, at least we will not have contributed to the process. We know that for many, such a choice represents a painful renunciation, but we are convinced that today's sacrifice will be important in tomorrow's football.

If and when the conditions for assisting are once again the same as before, then we will resume our place.

But until that day we pull the curtain.

Curva Ovest Ferrara #NOF

I watched the highlights as I don't have Sky, but BT Sport.  However as some have already mentioned it definitely had a pre-season feel to it, its just soulless without the fans.

I saw the news yesterday and it mentioned that the PL are trying to get the fans back in the stadium, and it comes across as stuff all the rest we look after ourselves.  The PL in my eyes act as if they are the FA.  I much as I like football I just don't like the way the PL go about things is all too selfish for me.

I guess it's necessary for football in general to get back up and running if only for the prospect of TV contracts being fulfilled and the potential for money to filter down to our level. Villa v The Pigs was dull, City v Arsenal less so if only for the 25 minute cameo of David Luiz.

Not so Super. I love football but loath the Prem because it is not our national game anymore. It is the Sky game and they might as well just sell it in box sets.

I like watching football at all levels, all the Premiership cares about is the Premiership, not FOOTBALL, which it has clearly been shown during this pandemic.
If you was to offer me a VIP box at Old Trafford, Anfield etc or a ticket for the Poonton stand at Blundell Park, guess what its Grimsby Town everytime for me.
Why because since that first game I attended at Blundell Park, I was hooked, the passion, atmosphere, friendships made, the travelling, the ups, the downs, the memories, I don't get that watching the Premiership.

The thing that the Premiership might get out of the playing in empty stadiums, is yes financially they are ok, but without the FANS, football is nothing like, it is will FANS, because it us the FANS that make football, the sport it is.

Its like the Indian Premier League being played in empty stadiums, its nothing without the fans, its the fans that makes the IPL.

It gives the officials an easy option but they are wrong and incompetent for not daring to question the tech.
It is very strange and worrying how far just trusting the technology has permeated our lives, in the last week we were waiting for a delivery and the same driver took it to the same wrong address (less than 100m away) 3 times before it eventually arrived, his excuse was that was were his sat nav sent him.  Also on a much more serious note is the large number of sub post office owners jailed, fined or dismissed because courts refused to believe it could be the computer that could be wrong.

Or it was in a packed penalty area and it went over the line in a position that even the cameras couldn’t see and neither did the officials so they couldn’t award the goal.

A bit harsh to call them incompetent.

That used to be the linesman’s main job, to get to premier league standard you would expect he would be at the top of his trade, getting one of the few decisions he is there for so badly wrong negates the reason for having them at all, maybe we should just rely on cameras and technology

I have just looked at it again as I had assumed that the linesman must of been on the other side of the pitch, but he wasn’t, he was staring straight at it, so please accept my apologies as calling the linesman incompetent is correct, but not the referee.

Saying that, it could be that the officials now do not have the authority to over rule the technology, I don’t know. It could be that he saw it was over but was not allowed to say so and would have been demoted if he had done. That would seem crazy, but in the over officious society we live in, it would not surprise me.

I don’t think the ref can be accused of being incompetent though, there is no way he could have definitely seen it was over the line.

They’re saying all the cameras were blocked but they showed a hawkeye angle almost immediately after the incident on the live broadcast. There’s more to this than technology failure I think - more likely operator error - and they’re covering it up. If the linesman can’t see that that’s in he needs to go for a drive to Barnard Castle.

Enjoying getting 4 hours of League Two footy through Now TV. Just wish it was Town.

VAR has ruined the game full stop.

It was obvious that the minute you took away the element of human error from the officials and replaced it with computer generated decisions, which in turn are subject to human error, the game as a spectacle would suffer.

They should have gone the other way and insisted the referees decisions were respected by players and managers, and reinforced the obvious point that refereeing errors had no more bearing on the out come of matches than a wayward back pass or a penalty miss or whatever.

When every player never makes a mistake, when a manager never makes a tactical gaffe would be the time to try to make the referees perfect.

They now have goal line technology and an army of studio referees with ultra HD graphics and they still can't get it right and all the fun has been sucked out of Premier league games.

This week has shown football without fans is soulless. Football without the referee being in sole charge has changed the game too much and taken the spontaneity and excitement out of it.

The officials might just as well not be on the field at all. It could all be done from a pitch side box of monitors, beamed directly by Sky. They could stay off the pitch until an infringement and then dash on and chuck  a flag down like American Football. In fact they need not be referees with any qualification at all.

Unlike many of my sarcastic posts I am not being fanciful here. The pace of change led by the whims of broadcasters who are in thrall to technological gimmicks means this is far from fantasy. In a few years the game as we know it could have morphed into something quite unrecognisable to a fan from 1992 where the video becomes the reality. I really would not bet against artificial crowd noise either.

To be honest, for a PL match , it was pretty dire, but I suppose they're not completely match fit, whatever about the skill level!

American "football" is appallingly boring and devoid of any skill. Five referees utterly unnecessary, tiny bits of actual play and just throwing the ball at each other in a bastardised version of catch, while trying to kill each other. ugh!

As someone who plays and coaches in the national and university league, I challenge you to go to Lincoln or Scunthorpe to actually give the game ago there is a massive amount and variety skills involved in multiple position. 5 Refs are completely necessary for covering the number of different points of action as fairly as possible and as for the brief moments of action thank god those 30 seconds between plays are much needed when you've got a 18+ stone guy trying to run through you (after all its described as being in a car crash every thirty seconds) as I often do and whats more great then playing a sport where you're trying to kill each other.

I don't mind Roy Keane making £60,000 a week. I was making the same when I was playing. The only difference was I was printing my own - Mickey Thomas

The area you are trying to protect at corners is the goal - Chris Kamara

Quite agree, it is a different animal altogether to our game. I suspect Sky and the PL would rather like the same sort of hamburger razzmatazz at the games though and some blokes in striped shirts running on to stop play on the say-so of a video ref.

Unbelievably ridiculous. Some “atmospheric” crowd noise going on all the time and the seats covered up like a poor David Copperfield magic trick. What are they playing at?

I think if you take the time to understand them most sports, the ones with large crowds anyway, are worth watching. They appear boring and dull at first but as you get into them you begin to appreciate them more. It takes time and effort though. I haven't watched US Football for years, but I did once regularly watch it. Same with baseball. I have been dismissive of lots of sports over the years at one time or another, but I don't think there was a single one which was more down to me not understanding what it was all about once I started to get into it.

The bottom line is thousands of people are not going to turn up and watch something which is "appallingly boring and devoid of any skill" in your words.

Depends on your viewpoint, if you are an armchair supporter paying your ridiculous monthly fee to the main sponsors then VAR can be a spectacle......however if you are a fan who attends the games and has no idea what is being debated/reviewed and why then it totally ruins the spectacle.......unfortunately as it is TV that rules the roost in that league then its the armchair supporter who gets preferential treatment and those in attendance get shafted.

I always thought Basketball was the worst of the US sports. Growth hormone pumped lanky Football rejects endlessly back and forthing like a Newton’s Cradle of repetitive ejaculation.

Then I was in Texas last year and found some cheap NBA ‘nosebleed’ tickets for the Pistons at the Spurs and gave it a whirl. I didn’t want to watch it sober and found a craft brewery who provided a complimentary supporters bus to the game.

I don’t remember much about the journey to the match but the benefit of being leathered was avoiding the $12 warm, frothy Buds in plastic beakers.

I was sceptical but I really enjoyed it. It was a bit cheesy with the pre and mid-match entertainment and definitely family orientated. The local Texans would have got a shock if you took them to a Town away match (I’m looking at you, Bradford away, with the firecrackers and air of menace).

Watching it live you could see the talent and skill of the players. I don’t regard myself as a basketball fan but I certainly gained an appreciation for it.

We got lost leaving the stadium and trying to find the bus back but the driver waited for us for about 30 mins. We were welcomed back on the bus like heroes. I felt like one of those tourists at Stamford Bridge or the Emirates who you always catch brushing their teeth in the crowd at PL matches.

I’d definitely watch some of the other US sports live, given a chance, although you can’t beat Macclesfield vs Grimsby in the rain for a bit of gritty realism.

Now got Sky Sports.

I'm watching the Cardiff v Leeds game, big game for both clubs.

Looking forward to the Merseyside derby tonight.

The closest to a decent game Ive seen since the start up was City-Arsenal and that only because of the mass failure by Sideshow Bob, The games have all looked like pre season friendlies, Hardly any goalmouth action.
PS. have not seen all the games

Now got Sky Sports.

I'm watching the Cardiff v Leeds game, big game for both clubs.

Looking forward to the Merseyside derby tonight.

Enjoy the Merseyside borefest?

Are people reallt paying hard earned cash to watch a practice match with white noise and big coloured  blankets? Sky &BT must be laughing all the way to the bank.

Who'd have thought it, after losing 2-0 at home to Cheltenham in the first leg Northampton are now 3 nil up at Cheltenham in the second leg and heading for Wembley.
Cheltenham are the biggest cheats I've seen at BP in recent seasons (time wasting and feigning injury) so happy days.

You have to feel for the players in a way; to walk out at Wembley, the pinnacle of your career, only to look towards the end where thousands of your fans should be to find nothing but empty seats. Welcome to the life of a Forest Green footballer...

Norwich really need a win to stand any chance of staying in the Prem.

Latest....  Norwich 0-0 Everton

BBC 2 then second-half BBC 1.

Man Utd beating Sheff Utd 2-0, not a great return back to football for Henderson and Co.

Surely Henderson wouldn't have been allowed to play against his parent club.

Yeah Les, never thought of that

Liverpool 3 up against Palace so as it stands if Man City lose at Chelsea tomorrow night Liverpool will finally officially win the Premier League for the first time.

Amazing that it's taken them nearly 30 years to do it after the way they dominated English football in the seventies and eighties.

Must say it didn't do much for my broken leg at Bradley in the Sunday League though

The thing I’m getting from watching the premiership is basically how average the football actually is, not including Liverpool and Man City in that observation. I don’t know wether it’s due to no atmosphere or not having any football for 3 months or it’s not my team but I’m afraid I’ve stopped switching the telly on. Probably in the past we’ve fallen for the Sky hype about “Super Sunday”,Watford v Brighton, not everybody must see game.

It was a good decision to finish the PL season. I couldn't care less which corporate giant won it, but at least the trophy can be awarded and there can be no arguments about its legitimacy.

Now for the real issue. Hull bottom three.

Man Utd have 8 changes from the previous game and used 6 yes six subs in this game.

5 subs are allowed now and an extra one can be used if the game goes into extra time.

A bit crazy just like a pre season friendly game.

Having said that Norwich put up a good fight in the second half until they had a player sent off.

HT....Newcastle 0-1 Man City  [FA Cup]

One of the most one sided games you will ever see.

I'll be surprised if City don't score a hat full 2nd half.

Yes

Newcastle should have equalised just before City scored their second as well and it could have changed the game

League 2 Play-Off Final tonight, Northampton v Exeter.

I've got a few friends who are Exeter fans, so I'll be fully behind them tonight.

It'll certainly be a surreal experience for the players walking out at Wembley to an almost deserted stadium.

UP THE GRECIANS.

Exeter down to 10 men.  The Cobblers dominating.

We did well winning the NL play-off final after losing the home semi-final first leg 1-0.

Northampton lost their home semi-final 2-0.  And they finished 7th.

I wonder what odds you'd have got on a Northampton promotion after the 1st leg of the semi-finals?

I don’t think Klopp will let them take a crate on the coach before a game again.

I'm watching the Oxford v Portsmouth 2nd leg play-off game, 2-2 on aggregate.

Just gone into extra-time with the possibility of the dreaded penalties.

Hull are in freefall. I’m not quite sure where they go from here if they do go down, they’re completely knackered.

They’re an odd story really - from League Two to the Prem in five seasons, then stayed there, only to find that they had completely overspent to the point their future was in genuine doubt.

Then out of nowhere came the Alam’s. Wiped out their debt, saved the club and restored their top flight status. Then, for no apparent reason they decided to shaft themselves and their investment for no other reason than wanting to include the word ‘Tigers’ in the club’s official name. Considered lucky in the Far East or something; missing the important fact that such markets follow the kind of success brought about by Man City style billions, not cute animal names.

Now they have a massive fans boycott - timely, you might say. They’re in a weird position. I know die hard Hull fans alienated by the plastics who arrived only when Man United and Liverpool rocked up at the KC. They won’t be there when it’s Bristol Rovers on a Tuesday night again. Neither will the plastics.

They’ve had a mad 15 years, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t jealous of bits of it. Away at Man United when we’re struggling at home to Eastbourne or some such shíte. Horrible. I’m not sure I’d take their future much though.

If we can survive this crisis, there’s certainly a part of me that can see the resumption of normality and Town well above the likes of Hull and Scunny in the footballing pyramid. I wouldn’t have said that a couple of years ago.

Covid-19. The great reset.

Just watched Sheffield United beat Chelsea 3-0. With 3 games to go they still have a chance to qualify for either European competitions. Such a well organized and efficient team. I can't recall another newly promoted Premier League team over the years that were as good as this one.

Wycombe 1-0 up in the League 1 playoff final. Close ranger header from a superb corner.

Hope they win as Ainsworth seems like a good sort (and Karl Robinson seems a bit of a tit)

One win could/would still put them above Charlton and then there's still the Wigan points deduction to take into account.

In most circumstances, I would imagine yes.....but......they are still wrangling over the bonus for keeping them up (if it happens).

Quite remarkable really that Arsenal look set to finish below Leicester, Wolves, Sheffield United and Burnley. Since they last won the title in 2003, all but Burnley have spent time in the third tier, and even Burnley spent 10 of those seasons in the Championship.

I can see how underinvestment might see the Gooners cut adrift from the traditional big clubs and more recent big spenders, but clearly this shouldn’t have happened.

Hull were challenging for the play-offs before the owners decided to cash in on their best players. A disastrous decision in hindsight.

Forest may lose out on a near certain play-off place if they keep shipping goals at home.  And/or Swansea keep scoring away.  Swansea have scored more goals if their GD is the same.

For older fans, Forest’s sudden collapse was of Devon Lock proportions.

Really happy to see Liverpool win the title - although here is a question.... has the media response been a little OTT?

I dont recall it being like this for any other winner?  Or am I mis-remembering?

Man Utd, Arsenal, Man City and Chelsea have won it multiple times. This is a big deal for them.

A reported million quid for that presentation and party...meanwhile they furloughed the tea lady etc.

It seems a tad OTT, I appreciate they haven’t won the premier league (it’s as if the other 18 titles don’t count) and they are a good side but you’d think nobody has won the title before.

There seems an inability to be any level of critical of clubs like Liverpool and City. Take the semi final, Pep got it wrong, he was out thought and his side were not played for large parts by a bang average arsenal side; Pep was hailed the hero though because Arteta worked alongside him...so odd.

Hull are gone and didn’t even really go with a fight which is always good times. Forest just seemed to implode and Brentford had the chance and didn’t take it either...

Borehamwood looked awful throughout, Harrogate fitter and quicker ,  Fallowfield (?) at right back looked decent for Harrogate.

Harrogate at Wembley for their first time. A pity no fans there to see them.

Jack Diamond aged 20 BT Sports MOM.  A real gem for them.

York were losing at home at HT in the Northern Semi-final.

I hope Boston give Gateshead a good hiding later.

Boston's last game at York Street I believe.

York lose 0-2 at home.  They will have a new stadium for next season, shame that they do not have team good enough.  They are full-time in a league with part-time players.

I drove past Boston's new ground this week. Still no seats in the Main Stand. Seems a lot of work left to do ahead of NL proposed restart date of "no earlier than Saturday 5th September".

Very similar ground to Morecambe. A Main Stand with 2,000 seats. 2 covered terraces behind either goal. But with a covered terrace opposite the Main Stand.

at least with Harrogate and Notts in the final its a relatively local away day.....if such things as away days will exist that is.

Both local and with top notch away day potential (if of course we can have an away day, certainly not looking likely for a little while yet).

Harrogate is only a small town but well connected by rail with some decent drinking spots and a ground close to the town centre.

Boston United 5 Gateshead 3.  They could still count all the goals on one hand.

Back to the York home defeat.  Our very old friend (nearly 37) Steve McNulty was past it the York defence,  He still adds weight to the back 4.  His deceptively fast pace for such a big unit has gon now.

Ex Town player Paddy McLaughln was also poor for York.  Booked and subbed.

An interesting fact from the Championship series of final games last Wed:  The bottom 5 teams with 6 games to go all survived relegation.  (Helped by Wigan’s points deduction and still subject to legal rulings).

So the most lucrative game in the world financially (allegedly) the Championship play-off final will be between two west London clubs, Fulham and Brenford.
Both only a few miles from Wembley with no fans allowed, the irony.

I'm going to say it won't be as good as it used to be, I won't be able to see Mason Mount play cards on the bus, nor will I see Ainsley Maitland-Niles playfully put the lid of the cup on his head after Arsenal's 3-1 victory*, because there's no characters in the game anymore.

* Aubameyang with 2, Ceballos with the other, Giroud netting for Chelsea.

I doubt I will watch, its just not right without a 3pm K.O and Its a knockout and Q of Sport etc, To me it just seems like a bog standard Prem game, I mean Spurs played a whole season there and both teams were there for the semis etc. Just doesn't seem special any more.

Noticeably less of the “When I were a lad there was only one live game of football on telly every decade and the build up on the BBC started five weeks before kick off” stuff this year but thanks to Madeley for providing the cup final day traditions for the forum this season.

For what it’s worth I absolutely agree with you on the semis being at club grounds like Villa Park and Hillsborough etc. The FA’s justification for the kick off change being that the football supporters want to watch football on telly at that time doesn’t add up because I’m yet to meet anyone who thinks the cup final should kick off at half five.

Should be four. Whilst Notts is a really easy away day for me I really want Harrogate to win.

I don't mind Roy Keane making £60,000 a week. I was making the same when I was playing. The only difference was I was printing my own - Mickey Thomas

Lewis extremely lucky with the timing.  Poor Bottas out of the points with the same puncture problem at virtually the same time,

The wheels have come off for Notts County.

Seems our cup visit to Harrogate was just a dummy run. 😄

2-1 now, if County don't go up can we have that Roberts? I've been really impressed by him in these playoff games looks like the soirt of attacking player Holloway would like

Has a top team like Real Madrid ever made so many basic defensive errors?

Where is the arch villain Ramos when you need him?  (Well, suspended).

City looking good value for a win, despite missing good chances.

Not live football but I've just watched Super Clive's Wembley hat-trick on Sky in the re-run of Charlton Sunderland. Tears to my eyes,, what a player he was, I never realised how good he was at coming short back to goal and holding the ball up - fantastic

Bayern Munich outstanding against a very poor Barcelona tonight. Alphonso Davies looks a hell of a player.

Barca have done really well to only concede 8 goals.  Could have been a lot more.

Bayern v City would be a great match.  Bayern favourites.

Thought before the game that the overall winner of the competition came from this tie and don’t think any different now. Bayern will still find the gaps that Barca allowed them but not quite as many and City will offer *some* resistance unlike Barca too. Disappointed to be working and missing that match!

City poor, Lyon were quite organised and frustrated them. Controversial second Lyon goal and it goes to ET if Sterling puts his sitter away seconds before their third. Bayern’s to lose for certain now.

I suspect city will cry bottom about the second Lyon goal, either a foul on Laporte or offside. Either way it just takes away attention from the fact that Pep got it wrong.

At times it seems like he’s untouchable or can’t even be questioned but there has been several points this year where he’s over complicated, been too arrogant may be or simply gotten it wrong. Last night was one of those times.

Yes, you’re expecting Sterling to bury that chance and you’d have fancied City to go on and win but nonetheless, the team selection and tactics cost them.

Agree. Why play 3 defensive midfielders and leave all attacking flair on the bench. Deserves to be questioned. Was it a foul? I think it probably was but manager has to take the blame for me

I have getting fed up with the constant tinkering of the rules by FIFA in recent years. The offside rule in particular is simply a joke these days.

In fact you may as well scrap offside rule because as it stands you cannot play with it. Whether you like teams playing that play a defensive system to catch people offside or not ,, like the old days of say Arsenal in the 80's for example, it is and has always been a strategy of the game. But as a defender it is now virtually impossible to play against it. Second phase , interfering with play.....nonsense.

As one famous manager once said if you arent interfering with play what are you doing on the pitch.

That second goal last night. Regardless of the possible foul or not should have been ruled offside. The striker was at least 2 yards in an offside position when the ball was passed. It was passed to HIM!! He was running towards the ball. Even under current misguided rules that is surely interfering. The defenders could all see he was clearly offside and subconsciously would relax for split second. The fact he stepped over the ball is irrellevant for me. The guy who scored was clearly coming form behind the play so no issue with him. But how can any manager/defender defend against that. As a say it makes the offside rule redundant in my book.

This is not a VAR issue but a rule issue as most of the VAR controversies are.

A ball inadvertently touches an attacking players arm prior to a goal rules the goal out. Even if the 'handball' is the result of a challenge by a defender . Think Phil Foden and Lucas Moura as 2 examples this season. Yet if a defender 'accidentally' touches the ball with his arm NO penalty. Flipping Bonkers.

I see FIFA cant help themselves and from 01 June the definition of what is the arm has been tweaked, How the intercourse did we manage to play football for over 150 years ffs.

Just another example of FIFA ruining our game.

Go on then, last game anyone watching?

Champions League Final

PSG vs Bayern

Don't particularly like either but hope Bayern win purely because Neymar is the biggest cheat on the planet.
