Looking at the practicalities of getting live football up and running, and watched by fans, it made me wonder what the future will look like.

I assume that moves will probably be made to get the game going some time next season, and with very limited attendances in line with the current guidance on social distancing. Fans would be able to sit in the stands, in a manner similar seen at Westminster, maintaining a 2 metre distance between each other. I imagine that would probably restrict any potential crowd to about 2,000 to 2,500? That would be on the basis of two seats left vacant between every fan, and fans not sitting directly behind each other but diagonally so. This would obviously mean a rush for season tickets as I assume there'd be no trouble in shifting 2,500. How many season ticket holders does the club currently have? It will leave a lot of fans unable to get to a single game, so the televising of games, and selling them as they do now will probably become a major part of any re-opening. If it does I hope they have everything exactly right so there's no technical hitches.

Social distancing would mean huge queues for food and drink, so perhaps a little bit of common sense and allowing fans to bring their own into the ground would make more sense than having on site facilities open? Which also begs the question, how would any body searches be carried out prior to entering BP to check for alcohol etc? The problems are endless. Entrance to, and exit from, Blundell Park would need to be done with military planning, and I assume access to seats would need to be choreographed rather than having people brushing past each other as they do now?

The more I think about it, the more complex it becomes. It simply isn't going to be a question of reduced capacity - if there's any capacity at all - but everything that goes in and around that that would leave Archimedes scratching his head.

it's shame fans cannot attend having face \ mouth masks and with surgical gloves.  Then everyone can attend.  I would have no problem sitting next to someone with this in mind.

Some good points raised. A lot more planning needed by the club.

Even with reduced attendances, it would take all season to safely manage one HT queue for the toilets.  There is only 15 mins.  2 in the Findus have the same entry and exit. Z

I think we're missing one thing here; presumably in order to get a safety certificate the club must have drills on getting fans out of the ground in quick time should there be an emergency - it would be impossible to maintain social distancing whilst trying to evacuate a stadium as it would be shoulder-to-shoulder panic.  Let's be honest, until social distancing is relaxed, crowds aren't coming back.

You could say the same about any place that has lots of people in, a supermarket for example, if one caught fire you're not likely to walk out keeping two metres apart.

Not strictly true as members of the same household would be able to sit together.

There would be the option of course to get the crowd onto the pitch in an emergency and then safely let people leave the ground supervised by stewards.

Apart from the Upper Findus or whatever it’s now called. Get them out first with the rest of the crowd on the pitch to be escorted out afterwards.

Does there have to be food & drink supplied, it would be more trouble than it's worth, cleaning of equipment etc.
As regards the 2 metre rule, there has already been talk of a 1 metre rule and by the time we get to starting a new season it will either be that or maybe not even applied.

Good point, promotion plaice, just shows the amount of imponderables. However, if the guidance was relaxed to allow for this I expect there would be so many "households" wanting to sit together as to make it unmanageable. You only have to watch the police on the BBC News dealing with big groups on the beach who all live together! Can't see any move away from strict seating arrangements with no flexibility. As soon as you make one exception you really do open the doors - see Dominic Cummings.
